Standing on the balcony of her apartment, Sophie felt the breeze that was playing with her hair. She took a sip of her wine, feeling the rich flavor on her tongue.

She just got back to Kanderton this evening. It was a long-needed break but now she was missing her little munchkins every day.

She had been with them since their birth, and the way, they all were jumping to talk to her on the phone, was something heartwarming.

She gazed out at the city lights twinkling in the distance.

Behind her, the sliding door was gently swished open. She knew who it was.

“What are you thinking, Aunt Fia,” She smiled softly when Flint called her Aunt Fia, just like the kids used to call her.

He must also be missing them.

He stepped up beside her holding the wine glass, and placed a gentle hand on her shoulder, “What’s on your mind, sweetheart.”

Sophia exhaled a long breath before looking at him, “I just talked to the kids. They seemed so happy and so carefree…which was a relief.”

“Ah!” Flint nodded, a wistful smile on his lips, “I miss them too, love,” He at last tilted his face, “But I know this isn’t the reason. Something is bugging at the back of your mind.”

Sophia turned to face him, “I … I think … that soon they won’t be living with us,” Sophie didn’t want to cry but Flint must have sensed the tears behind her lids.

When he spoke, his voice was also thick with emotions, “And that’s life, Sophie,” he whispered, “When we lost your father, I thought there was nothing left for me. After that, your grandma also said her goodbyes. But see! I stayed alive. Thriving. Falling in love every day with a new woman.”

Sophia chuckled at that.

“Life never stops, Sophie. It goes on. The best thing is, they have their father with them now, I hope Rafael doesn’t repeat the same mistakes of his past.”

Flint’s eyes were also scanning the traffic on a far-fetched road, “Hearing their little voices, arguing with each other, fighting and then planning on how to keep their mommy happy,” Flint moved his eyes to Sophie, “We both should be happy that they will be growing up with their parents. Like a normal happy child should do.”

They both fell into comfortable silence sipping their wines, lost in their own thoughts.

After a moment, Sophie broke the silence, “I think Marissa might go back to Rafael. Permanently. I predicted it a long time back and… by now they should have been together… like a normal husband-wife duo. Silly people! What’s taking them so long?”

Flint watched her with furrowed eyes, “Seriously! They are adults. Sophie. Let them figure it out!”

“Figure it out? If I won’t push them then they would keep figuring it out all their lives,” Flint laughed at that.

His kind-hearted granddaughter was the one who encouraged him to go out with women after his wife’s death.

He didn’t want to leave his bed due to depression, but she was the one who arranged online dates for him. While waiting for a good man, she didn’t waste her time longing for something impossible or crying in the corner of the room.

She was a girl in the shining Armor who knew how to take care of people around her. And she was lucky to have a like-minded friend in her life … like Marissa.

After getting done with the few laps, Marissa reached the edge of the pool and stretched out her arm for a grape from the nearby platter.

It was a good decision to come here because she could feel the tension in her back and the nape of her neck dissolving away.

Just when she was about to pop the grape in her mouth, she heard a faint sound.

Startled, she looked up and found Rafael stepping into the swimming area wearing his swimming trunks. His frame was blocking the doorway as he slid the door closed behind him.

Marissa pushed off the edge and resumed her swimming. Her brain was continuously asking her heart to focus on her strokes.

Rafael had dived into the pool after her.
