Chapter 212: 212- Tables Have Turned
Dean came inside the meeting room after Nina when he saw her in a rage. He wanted to save Marissa from her wrath but the scene before him had made him rooted to the spot.
He was horrified when saw Nina raising her palm to hit across Marissa’s face, but before that Marissa’s hand shot up with lightning speed, catching Nina’s wrist mid-air.
There were gasps in the room when Marissa twisted her arm and a few of them even got to their feet in shock.
Dean quickly moved forward to pull Nina away from Marissa. Marissa was still holding her arm, with a deadly calm face.
“M…Marissa,” Dean called her name, but Marissa didn’t even acknowledge his presence. Instead, she spoke to Nina in a low voice that was surprisingly controlled, “I wouldn’t do that if I were you, Mrs. Sinclair.”
Nina was struggling to free her arm. Her face had turned dangerously red, and Dean didn’t know if it was due to pain or her anger, or the humiliation she just faced.
“Let me go!” Nina tried to break free from her grip, but Marissa didn’t even budge. She just leaned closer, keeping her voice low and soft.
“What were you thinking when you entered this room, Nina? Keep screaming and keep telling everyone how oppressed you are…” Marissa smirked, “But no one knows you better than me. Even your son knows nothing about you. No one is aware, what a filth you are!”
Dean could make a few words out of the whispers, but others couldn’t hear anything.
Nina started making faces just to tell the audience how much pain she was enduring. All she wanted was a bit of sympathy. She even managed a few tears in her eyes.
A senior executive who must be passing by also peeked inside and found the two women in this odd position.
He cleared his throat and then tried to speak, “L …ladies… I think… you should…” The poor man hadn’t faced any such situation in his entire corporate life.
Marissa gave him a challenging glance and slowly released the older woman, “Next time think twice before you act out like this, Nina. Respect goes both ways.”
She stepped back and looked at the faces of Dean, the executive, and then her team members.
God!
She found the situation quite funny and also wished, Rafael was here. She wanted to see his reaction too.
He might want to kick her out of the building for disrespecting his dear mommy.
The people sitting there were exchanging nervous glances. Some were shifting uncomfortably in their seats.
However, very few… like a very teeny tiny amount of people had admiration for Marissa in their eyes. Dean was one of them.
Marissa moved her focus to the event employees. She clapped, to get their attention, “Come on, folks. Let’s get to business, shall we?”
Nina was standing there feeling like trash. No one was even interested in what she was feeling. Shouldn’t they consider the fact that she was Rafael’s mom?
In her haste, she staggered back a little and rubbed her arm where Marissa had gripped her. She was trying to absorb the fact that she had lost it.
She had lost it before the audience and this bitch appeared as a winner in everyone’s eyes. She not only failed this round, but her bravado was shattered too in front of everyone.
Marissa didn’t wait for her to leave the room, nor did she spare her another glance. She started telling the employees how splendid it would be if they arranged the event outdoors, on the premises of White Palace.
Dean didn’t say anything to Nina and gestured for the executive to leave the room. He could detect respect in the glances of the people present there.
When he was passing by a group of members, he heard their whispers, “Wow. I didn’t know anyone could handle this Nina bully so well.”
Another one whispered back, “We were wrong when we thought Mrs. Sinclair held power. None of them is as strong-willed as Ms. Marissa Aaron. She isn’t someone to mess with.”
Dean wished he could tell them that Marissa was the real Mrs. Sinclair. She was the wife of Rafael Sinclair.

Marissa tried to suppress the smile when she saw Nina leaving the room taking slow steps. She wished she could strangle the woman’s neck.
While leaving, the nasty woman kept looking over her shoulder. Her eyes weren’t on Marissa. It was on the projector screen where White Palace was there with all its glory.
Today Marissa felt like a winner but there was one thing that coudn’t be ignored. Nina wasn’t someone who would accept her defeat that easily with a sportsman spirit.
She hardly forgot her insult and always made it a point to take revenge, no matter how little the mistake was. This time Marissa wanted her, to taste her own medicine.

“Don’t tell me! You not only stopped the attack but also twisted her arm! What are you? Bruce Lee?” Sophia exclaimed in surprise.
Marissa was meeting Sophie after such a long time. Due to her stay in the hotel, Sophia had started missing kids and her friend.
Marissa made a beeline for Sophie’s place. As usual, Flint was out on a date, leaving them alone to catch up.
“It’s not about being Bruce Lee, Soph. I mean who does that? Barging into that meeting room, raising her hand in front of everyone. What was she trying to prove?” she shrugged and reached over, playfully tugging the bowl of potato chips out of Sophie’s hands.
Sophie who had been reluctant before, let go of the bowl without a fight this time.
“What were your colleagues’ reactions? Did they say anything?”
“They were stunned,” Marissa tossed a handful of chips into her mouth, “Impressed, even.”
“Well. In a way, it worked out for the best. Now no one will dare to mess with you. If Marissa can take down the mommy of MSin President, then she can take down anyone.”
“Right?” Marissa chuckled and dodged Sophie when she tried to get back her bowl.
“Gosh! Look at you! Is Rafael has been training you for Taekwondo?” Marissa smiled warmly when heard his name.
“Huh. Look at your face, girl!” Sophie said with a pout, “You are glowing, blushing, becoming more beautiful, and now you have turned into Charlie’s angel too.”
Marissa dismissed the praise with a wave of her hand. Sophie was right. She had been feeling better lately. Her confidence had improved, and her morale had boosted. Every day, her mirror used to show her, how radiant her face had become.
Ever since Rafael had entered her life, males around her, had started complimenting her. Though she didn’t need that.
But she felt good. She felt pretty and desired….
And loved.
Her eyes snapped up.
Love?
She swallowed and tilted her head to look at Sophie who was standing at some distance, her head buried inside her fridge, looking for something.
“Sophie!” she breathed her friend’s name.
“Hmm,” Sophie kept looking inside the fridge after the hum and then at last straightened with two bottles, that seemed to be sort of sparkling water.
“I brought these. It’s a home-based company and sells those at cheap prices,” she threw one at her that Marissa caught expertly, “What were you saying, Mar?”
Marissa chewed her upper lip and then shook her head, “Nothing!”
“Come on!” Sophie threw a cushion at her friend that she couldn’t catch, and landed on the floor, “Shoot it, Marissa.”
Marissa stayed quiet. She placed the bottle on the table nearby and grabbed another cushion.
“Is it about Rafael?”
“No!” Marissa closed her eyes and Sophie could see how disturbed she looked.
“Tell me, Mar,” Sophie was beside her in a flash, “Are you thinking about Nina?”
Marissa nodded at her, her lips stretched in a forced smile. She couldn’t tell her friend about her feelings for Rafael so openly.
Not now.
“I know why you are worried about her. But be careful. Next time don’t try to threaten her, Mar. She can do more harm.”
Marissa’s head dipped into the cushion, “And for how long should I fear her, Soph? I can’t hide behind a rock forever,” her voice was muffled against the cushion.
“Nor can you hide your kids behind those rocks forever, Mar,” Sophie pointed out.
Marissa sat upright, “What do you mean?”
“What I mean to say is… she doesn’t know yet about their existence. After this insult, she would definitely come after you. Before today she thought you were the same girl who she used to get easily scared. She wasn’t expecting this counterattack before. But now she knows. Now she is aware of who her opponent is.”
Marissa was thinking that maybe her feelings for Rafael were out of love and maybe he was also involved in her.
But now hearing about Nina made her a little freaked out for her kids.
“Sophie. I need to fight two wars here. One for my kids, to keep them protected and the other for Nina’s kid to keep him protected.”
Sophie blinked, “What? Protecting Nina’s kid?”
“Yeah. Rafael. The day she will guess that he has feelings for me, she can do anything to destroy that. She didn’t give a damn about his feelings in the past and she won’t give a fu*ck today. For her, the only thing that matters is herself. Nina Sinclair.”
With a smile, Sophie, held her hand tightly, “Don’t worry about her, Mar. Five years back you were alone. Now you have me, your kids, and Rafael with you. Five years back, the situation was in her favor but today?” she chuckled, “She has nothing except her rented minions and a shallow daughter-in-law who is nothing but a gold digger. So don’t worry my friend. Tables have turned for good.”
