Chapter 215: 215- Companionship
Sophie was lightly snoring behind her and here, she was, still awake, thinking about him. Not aware of how long she stayed awake, tossing and turning in her bed, she finally tossed away her covers and got up.
She couldn’t lie there anymore.
She tip-toed and came out of the room, holding her phone, without disturbing Sophie. Sometimes she wanted to be like her friend.
Carefree. Happy. With no signs of Insomnia.
The way she used to utter boldly whatever was there on her mind. That was the reason, most men easily got intimidated by her.
With a sigh, she kept pacing in the living room, not knowing what to do.
Rafael and the kids must have gone to sleep and now she was getting bored. She was missing him. His hot body.
The way his tongue touched her so intimately.
“Damn you, Rafael Sinclair,” she picked up her phone and thought to type a message. She could tell him the next morning that she typed it and sent it without realizing that it was quite late.
“Hello, hotty…”
No. It didn’t sound appropriate.
“Hey, sexy! Is your tongue available?” she chewed the corner of her lower lip mischievously and then deleted the words.
Don’t be a dork, Marissa. Behave yourself.
She typed a new message again, “Hey. Are you awake?” and sent it. Then she thought of sending him another message and came up with an ‘I Miss You Too’.
After all, he was the one who sent it first. She could tell him later that it was a formal reply to his ‘I Miss you’. Right?
She sent him the message and then started roaming the small apartment. The same apartment that offered her a home. A safe cocoon for her kids.
Rafael was right. Her children deserved proper space. They were growing fast and soon would start school too.
There were so many things she needed to do, all she required was the correct sequence of those chores.
Few of the tasks included, dealing with Nina and Valerie, working on White Palace for her event, and giving the kids their rightful place as Sinclairs.
With a small sigh, she padded towards the kitchen, deciding on a cup of coffee. Right now, that was the only thing that could accompany her.
While filling the jug with water and putting grounded coffee in the filter, her mind kept going back to Rafael.
A smile tugged at her lips. Did he ever notice how his eyes crinkled at the corners whenever he smiled?
The machine had started gargling, and the kitchen was filled with the rich aroma of the brewing coffee. She leaned against the counter still thinking about him.
She wished she could ask him to wake up and come over. She wanted his company. His smell. Him!
The coffee had finished brewing. She poured herself a cup and brought it to the living room. The plan was to curl up on the couch and think more about him.
Even the coffee couldn’t succeed in spreading the warmth inside her, the way his presence used to do.
She placed the cup on the small coffee table and was about to settle her ass down when she heard an unexpected sound.
It was a faint sound as if something tapped on the living room window. She froze for a minute. There was no one in the apartment except Sophie and her. Then who could it be?
She hurriedly stood up and scurried to Sophie’s room. She was still fast asleep like a dead.

She returned and then halted in her steps. There was another tapping on the living room window.
Her heart skipped a beat. What should she do? Call nine one one?
She was sure there were no ghosts in this apartment. They never experienced anything spooky here.
She could feel fear crawling through her skin when she decided to go to the window. She wouldn’t open it fully and would only crack it open slightly to peek outside.
Moving cautiously, she prayed that it was just the wind. After a minute’s hesitation, she pulled the curtain a little and peeked out of the glass.
Holy Cow!
What was he doing here?
Leaning against a sleek black Porsche, dressed in a simple black t-shirt and sweatpants, Rafael was standing there.
His arms were folded on his chest, and his face was tilted up as if he were trying to count the stars in the sky. However, the moment, he noticed her presence, a slow knowing smile broke on his lips, and he waved, mouthing a silent Hi!
Marissa’s breath was caught in her throat. What on earth was he doing here?
Trying to muster an annoyed expression on her face, she opened the window and looked down at him. She gestured with her hand to ask him silently why he was there.
His face suddenly feigned innocence and he motioned her to open the door. Rolling her eyes, Marissa stepped back from the window and went to open the door.
“Is this how you knock at someone’s door?” she asked with fake irritation and turned around to walk back. A quiet message for him to lock the door.
God knows how happy she was. Her heart was racing with excitement and joy, bursting with emotions.
“I didn’t want to disturb, Sophie and Flint. I threw the pebbles to your bedroom window first,” She spun around at the revelation.
“You did what?”
“Sorry,” he threw up his hands in defeat, “I thought you must be sleeping in your room. Then when I read your message, I realized that you might be in Sophie’s room or living room. I just tried my luck,” he followed her to the living room and then sniffed the air, “Umm. Coffee!”
Before she could say anything, he was already going to the coffee table where her cup was placed.
“I can bring you another,” she stated and thought he was bringing the cup to her, but he chose to shake his head.
“Bring it for yourself,” before she could stop him, he was taking sips from her cup, “That’s awesome. I’ll drink this one,”
For some reason, Marissa found the act incredibly intimate. L-Like they were an old married couple, friendly and easy around each other after many years of companionship.
She wasn’t sure why, but the simple gesture made her heart flutter.
