Chapter 232: 232- PDA
Instead of going back to Rafael’s office, Marissa stayed in the conference room and engrossed herself in work. There were so many things she needed to do, and she didn’t want to think about what Rafael had done.
One day he was telling her that the palace was hers and the next day he made her food desk vanish just like that. Poof!
Bravo, Rafael.
She didn’t negate Rafael’s orders in front of the employees as she didn’t want to show them that they weren’t a team.
“Marissa!” No one was prepared for this loud voice that made everyone jump, “You have hit the lottery with his one.”
Marissa tilted her head and found Peter’s beaming face. He was out to visit the White Palace and now couldn’t hide his excitement.
“That is the best location for my murals,” Peter dragged a chair close to her, against the marble floor and sat on it, “There were so many ideas running through my mind when I was inspecting the location. That palace is a masterpiece.”
“I know! Right?” she stretched a bit and realized that it was almost noon.
“I will bring all my ideas before evening so that you can…” Peter trailed off when saw her bobbing her head.
“Take your time. Start your work, Peter. Your work needs to be finished before the event. No need to waste your time on ideas’ approval. I’ve seen your work and I trust you!” she patted his shoulder and turned back to her laptop.
For some odd reason, she felt proud. Peter seemed so intrigued by the White Palace and now she was sure others would react the same.
“Marissa hit a jackpot when she booked White Palace. Otherwise, the owner doesn’t even like meeting anyone,” someone who was sitting at a distance, whispered but somehow Marissa heard him.
“Yeah. Not everyone can do it so effortlessly.”
After hearing their remarks, she was having trouble holding back her smile.
Peter had already gone to his friends and was telling them about all the details about White Palace and its beauty. His enthusiasm matched Alexander’s. She made a mental note to talk to Rafael about security measures.
Her kids would be there inside, and she didn’t want the guests roaming freely inside her house.
“Guys!” Dean entered carrying a few samples, “Invitation card samples have arrived. Any color recommendations?”
There were different suggestions from the room when Valerie told him about the Royal blue color.
Marissa didn’t mind her participation. After getting the White Palace, she felt a strange surge of confidence that she never sensed before.
She was no more an insecure Marissa who used to get scared of people. She no longer feared Nina for her kids.
Now she understood, why they always say that women should be financially independent.
Though she had already become independent, she could never use her skills at full capacity.
As a new entrepreneur, she was offered different TV appearances and interviews so she could expand her business, but she decided to stay low-key.
Reason?
Nina Sinclair.
She didn’t want to catch Nina’s eye to keep her kids safe.
Not anymore.
She was amused with the idea and went still for a moment when found Valerie looking straight at her with a challenging smirk. Marissa kept the smile pasted on her lips and winked at her sister.
Fu*ck off, Val! No more games from now onwards. You like Royal Blue invitation cards? I’ll make sure to go for Emerald Green. The color of Rafael’s eyes.

Marissa didn’t want to break the eye contact, but she had to when her phone started ringing.
“Rafael!” she was about to accept the call but then declined it at the last moment.
How dare he cancel my spot at the event without my permission?
The phone rang again. She not only canceled the call but also put it on silent mode. When there was a small vibration, she checked it. He had sent a text.
“Hey, strawberry. I’m waiting in my office, or have you forgotten about our lunch? Come over!”
Oh. The lunch!
However, she wasn’t going to have lunch with him.
“I already had some pasta, Shang Chi brought. Sorry, our lunch slipped my mind. You go ahead with your food.”
She hit the sent button and felt a little bad about it.
Rafael Sinclair could never slip her mind.
He was again calling her, but she didn’t receive it.
“Honey. At least receive my call!” the text appeared on her phone screen, and she sent a simple “No!”
When she looked up, she found Delinda rounding a desk and heading to the table where Val and Nina were sitting.
Marissa wanted to punch her ex-girlfriend’s face who had been nothing but a snake. As a team head, Marissa wanted to issue her a warning but chose to stay quiet.
Let them plan whatever they are planning. My attack will be the final one. Most devastating one! And the most brutal one.
The people who were supposed to support me, stabbed at my back. I won’t forgive them so easily.
And then something crossed her mind. The thing that had been bugging her for the last few days.
What if Rafael was also waiting for a perfect opportunity to confront Nina and Val? What if he also didn’t want to waste his time and energy in listening to random people’s explanations when he had more important things to do? What if he was trying to bring Marissa closer to him before going after them?
Why didn’t she think along these lines?
She was jerked out of her thoughts when someone started clapping loudly in the room,
“Congratulations! Your event passes are here,” Dean announced, “Please don’t forget them at home and carry them to the event if you want the entry.”
A peon started distributing the passes. Marissa was mildly surprised when Val and Nina also received them. This couldn’t have been possible without Rafael’s permission.
However, she was taken aback when everyone got the pass except her.
Was it some kind of game, Rafael was playing?
She noticed her phone was again vibrating but she canceled it without even looking at the screen.
“Where is the Team leader pass?” Nina asked Dean, her eyes never leaving Marissa’s face.
Dean shrugged with a blank face, “No idea, ma’am. The list was signed by the President.”
Marissa kept her emotions in control, and still, when her eyes met with Valerie’s, her big sister winked at her with a sly smile.
Marissa casually shifted her focus to her laptop screen. The people around her were chatting excitedly about the event when the door behind her opened and suddenly there was a pin-drop silence in the room.
“You aren’t responding to my calls or texts!” She froze when Rafael’s deep voice boomed in the hallway.
Was he serious?
Why was he asking it in front of all the employees? She could feel their eyes on her.
He crouched down and moved her chair around, to face him. No. It wasn’t a revolving seat. He just dragged it around quite easily.
“Are you mad at me?”
Marissa swallowed and placed her hands on his shoulders to push him back, “I … I… I’ll talk to you later, Mr. Sinclair.”
When she noticed that he didn’t budge, she dragged back the chair with the back of her knees and got up.
His eyes shot up, “Where are you going?”
Marissa felt her face flush as she turned to grab her purse. Everyone was watching her.
The plan was to get out of there silently without causing any drama.
Well!
Rafael had other plans. He stood up and then bent a little to scoop her in his arms, in the presence of his employees.
“Oh, Goodness. Put me down!”
“I will!” he said gently and placed a soft kiss on her cheek, “once we reach my office!”
This was the first time he publicly displayed his affection for her at the office.
