Chapter 234: 234- Mrs. Sinclair
Ever since she had met him…
No! Ever since he was back in her life, this was the first time he was telling a bunch of random strangers that she was Marissa Sinclair.
He was introducing her as his wife. As his lawfully wedded wife!
She wanted to laugh! She wanted to weep!
She had this wild urge to laugh and cry at the same time. Just to show Nina and Valerie that she had gotten what fate had written for her.
They could not snatch it away from her.
She always thought that he came back to her for the kids. He was here to give them a good life. He was making light-hearted jokes to let the kids know, he respected their mom.
He was kissing her and being intimate with her because he wanted to develop a good bond with the kids through her. Since yesterday something had shifted considerably.
What was that?
Right now, he was discussing some official clauses with those men, she didn’t think he was aware of what she was thinking or feeling.
But then he proved her wrong when he squeezed her to him. Maybe a silent message that he was aware of her feelings… of her existence.
And then something flashed into her mind. Was it due to the…
She turned her head to look at him, his profile had those sharp features. As if sculpted personally by God.
Was it due to her acceptance of the gift, the White Palace, he gave her? Was he expecting her to reject it?
How well he knew her!
If he had gifted it on her birthday night when she went out with Gerard, then she would have rejected it.
They were not as close at that time as they were now. And the credit went to him. He had a hand in breaking the ice.
“Honey! They are asking something,” Rafael whispered to her, and she looked up and found those men staring at her.
“I’m … I’m sorry… can you please repeat that?” she finished awkwardly.
Rafael twisted his body a little, “They are family lawyers, and they want to know the details about our wedding. I can’t provide them enough as I was … as you know…”
He gave her a sheepish grin and she supplied on his behalf, “Blind?”
“Yeah. Blind,” he then turned to those gentlemen, “I need to know all about it. Spend as much as you want but bring me the truth.”
Truth? She was taken aback by the term. Didn’t Rafael trust her?
“Yes, please,” Marissa said to the man who seemed to be their assistant, “I can’t wait for the truth to come out.”
“We have got our own investigators who can dig out everything but Mrs. Sinclair!” he said with a polite smile, “Let me be honest with you…”
Marissa couldn’t hear after that.
Mrs. Sinclair?
Seven years back her blind husband used to call her that when he used to be too cheesy in the kitchen. Sophia used to call her that when she used to go to her clinic.
Someone called her Mrs. Sinclair after such a long time. She was feeling overwhelmed.

“Mrs. Sinclair?” The man tried to get back her attention and this time she felt guilty for zoning out like a fool.
“I’m sorry. It’s just that… I’m a little emotional,” she said with a chuckle.
“We understand that,” one of them who appeared to be their head, said to her in a very calming way, “this is the first time we are dealing with such a case. We would like to be very clear to both of you. The court won’t go after your emotional stories. They want facts. Witnesses and proofs. Our investigators will try their best to dig out everything. But let me tell you. There were no eyewitnesses. No proofs,” he paused, letting the words sink in, “No guests’ record.”
His eyes flickered towards Rafael, and his voice had a hint of finality, “You two might have said the vows. But the names used during those vows were of Mr. Rafael’s and Ms. Valerie’s.”
Rafael flinched at the mention of her name. Thankfully the man didn’t mention Valerie as Mrs. Sinclair. It was such a cringe for him.
The head lawyer leaned back folding his hands on his lap waiting for their reaction.
“Mr. Rafael. Let me tell you one more thing. Ms. Valerie might not be your wife but right now she can take advantage of the situation and sue you for extramarital affairs with Ms. Marissa,” she could feel him going rigid beside her, “She can file a case for a handsome alimony, and you won’t be able to do anything. And yes, about your kids…”
Marissa’s body tensed and she moved a little more into Rafael’s body for some warmth, “What about them?”
“They are your kids carrying your DNA, Mr. Rafael. But if in case Ms. Valerie won the case, she can…” he paused for a moment, “please excuse me for saying this but she can prove in court that those kids were born out of… wedlock.”
Marissa closed her eyes. She could go through hell, but she couldn’t make her kids go through it. The urge to scream at the top of her lungs was taking over until she heard Rafael’s calm voice, “That I had in mind, and I have worked something out with my property lawyer too.”
The lawyer nodded and gave him a dossier, but Marissa’s mind stayed with Rafael’s statement.
What was the property lawyer supposed to do in this scenario?
“Right now, we can’t do much except send our men to interrogate the people,” the head lawyer then shifted his focus to Marissa, “Mrs. Sinclair. Please let us know if you come to identify or remember anything about any guest. If there is a friend or an acquaintance who attended the wedding. That will be super helpful.”
His assistant got up and handed a visiting card to Marissa, “These are our numbers, and we usually offer them to our VIP customers only. But don’t worry, our winning rate has been hundred percent so far.”
When they left, Rafael accompanied them to the door and Marissa stayed back on the couch. She couldn’t take the risk to stand on her wobbly legs.
Today was the most overwhelming and craziest day of her life. When Rafael returned, he halted in his tracks for a minute.
Something had changed in her in the last few hours. When she was in his arms, she wanted him to put her down but now… her face seemed like she had given up.
“Marissa!”
“Hmm!” she answered absentmindedly.
“Hakuna Matata!”
