Chapter 244: 244- Delinda’s Worth
Delinda twisted her wrist to have a look at her watch. It was noon and there was no sign of Marissa yet.
Being a head, she should be here by now. Such a careless prick she is!
Shang Chi watched her and then lowered his eyes where she was moving her legs frantically, “You look nervous, Del.”
She fidgeted absent-mindedly, “Huh?”
“I said you look nervous. What is it?” Delinda shook her head and leaned over her laptop that was provided by the office.
“Hey. I know, your relationship with Marissa has been quite strained lately. You might have some solid reasons, but don’t forget she is a very generous person. Anything personal should stay aside.”
He pointed out and got back to work. Delinda was only half listening to him. She wanted Marissa to be here as that seat was waiting for its owner.
“Guys!” Kate came inside and took her seat that was at the other end of the hall, “Marissa won’t be coming today so in case of any queries, you people can approach me or Dean.”
“What!” Delinda stood up in frustration, “But why?”
The hall got silent when Delinda shot the question loudly, “As a head she is supposed to be here.”
“No. She isn’t,” Dean spoke from the doorway, “Your job is to complete your tasks and leave, Delinda. You aren’t responsible for MSin’s employees’ leave of absence. Stop poking your nose in others business.”
Delinda’s face got red, she picked up her purse and left the hall, walking past Dean in her rage.
He is a loser who is taking Marissa’s side just because he gets paid by Rafael. What about moral values? Right and wrong?
She went downstairs with the excuse of having coffee, but she had to go there to meet Valerie Sinclair. Valerie had asked her not to contact her on call or message. They were supposed to connect in the office café.
Valerie’s face lit up as soon as she spotted Delinda.
“What happened? Is the job done?” she asked her with suppressed excitement.
Delinda took the seat across from her and shook her head, “I fixed those nails last evening.”
Valerie rolled her eyes, “I know. You already told me that. I’m asking if Marissa sat on that seat or not?”
“She didn’t,” Delinda shook her head and pursed her lips into a thin line, “Not yet…” she trailed off when saw Valerie huffing in annoyance.
“The bitch must be busy in Rafael’s office, maybe offering her fat body to him,” she spat in anger.
“No, Mrs. Sinclair. She hasn’t arrived yet. We just got to know that she isn’t planning to come today,” Delinda informed her casually.
“What?” Valerie stood up from her seat, “How come… she is absent?”
“Please, Mrs. Sinclair. Sit down,” Delinda looked around, she didn’t want to attract any attention. It was Valerie’s idea to communicate in the café.
“Isn’t she your head? Why is she staying at home?” Delinda didn’t have an answer to that. Valerie took back her seat, her hands clenched into fists.
“Are … are you sure that this is the reason?” Valerie asked Delinda, “I hope nobody caught you last night.”
Delinda wanted to tell her about Dean but the next moment she found Valerie looking behind her.
“My mother-in-law is here,” Valerie quickly muttered under her breath, “Don’t tell her about any of this.”
“Don’t worry,” Delinda squeezed her hand placed on the table, “Your secret is safe.”
Nina didn’t even smile when took another chair on the table, “Hey!” she settled herself and asked a waiter to bring her coffee.

Valerie jerked her head aside secretly, asking Delinda, silently, to leave.
“Hello, ma’am,” Delinda got up and fixed the strap of her bag on her shoulder, “Have a good day!”
When she was leaving, she heard Nina’s voice behind her, “What was she doing here, Valerie?”
“Oh, don’t worry, Nina. She was here to share my pain. She is a good woman,” Delinda smiled to herself. At least, Mrs. Sinclair knew Delinda’s worth.

Once she came back to the hall, Dean was thankfully not there anymore. Kate was explaining something to Peter who was about to leave. Today he was scheduled to go to the White Palace for his mural work.
He was putting his essentials in a large leather bag that he carried around for his mural work.
He stretched a little and picked up his journal while talking to a colleague. Delinda was observing him because he was standing very close to Marissa’s seat. Her body tensed up.
She wanted him to move away from there.
Good God! Her guess was right. He just moved the seat around to place his ass on it when Delinda almost screamed, “Peter! Wait!”
Peter halted midway; his ass stayed in the air. His eyes wide with the silent question, what is wrong, dude?
“Th…that’s Marissa’s chair,” she finished awkwardly. Shang Chi who was sitting beside her, chuckled, “You show everyone that you don’t care for her anymore. And look! You can’t even bear someone else on her seat!”
Delinda tried to smile. Peter was now standing with a guilt-stricken face.
“I’m sorry,” he said with a sheepish smile.
“She is our head,” Kate said, playing with her pen,” We should respect her seat,” she showed Delinda a thumbs-up sign.
“Hello, everyone,” Delinda’s eyes darted to the doorway where Denzel was standing.
She wanted to ask the reason for his late arrival, but Kate asked the question before her, “Why are you late?”
Denzel tiredly waved his hand and asked Peter to bring him water. The man was sweating profusely.
Delinda was horrified when she saw him sitting on Marissa’s seat. Before she could stop him, he sat down and then a scream escaped his lips.
Howling in pain, he got up and that was when Kate gasped. There was blood on Denzel’s arm.
Everyone was frozen trying to understand, what was going on.
Peter who was standing in the doorway, rushed to him with the glass of water, “Denzel. What happened?”
Denzel winced in pain and examined his arm, “I … I think… there are nails in the seat… Ouch…”
Delinda didn’t expect this at all. The nails were never for him or Peter. They were there for Marissa.
And then everyone was startled by what happened next. Holding his injured arm, Denzel’s eyes rolled back. He collapsed and lost consciousness.
Delinda furrowed her brows. The nails were supposed to injure him badly, not to make him faint.
At least that was what Valerie told her when she provided her those Iron nails to thrust them into Marissa’s chair.
