Chapter 252: 252- Strong And Confident Marissa
Dean pushed open the conference door and stopped dead in his tracks. His eyes landed on Marissa who was hastily packing up things.
Her laptop was placed on a desk, her dossiers were stacked neatly on the corner table of the room. She was moving around, organizing the event charts together.
“Marissa!” Dean’s voice had both confusion and concern, “What’s going on here?”
Marissa paused for a moment, glancing up at him. Dean could see calmness on her face but knew better. There seemed to be a lava inside her that could explode any minute.
“Are you mad at me?” he asked her, searching her face for a reaction, but she didn’t respond to him. He cleared his throat and asked again, “Are you mad at me, Marissa?”
This time she didn’t even look at him.
She could still feel the rage due to last night when she tried to convince Rafael that the event people should be called back.
His answer was a straight no. She even pressed him a little to let him see the clearer picture, but the man was adamant. He didn’t even let her speak further.
Urgh. She was mad at him. Why was he being so hot-headed?
No. She wouldn’t argue. She knew how to handle him. The conference room seemed so dull without the presence of her colleagues.
“Marissa. Can you please talk to me?” Marissa shook her head.
“I can’t, Dean. When I’m enjoying all the comforts of life, my teammates are extremely worried because they don’t know if they will get their payments on time or not. Their jobs are at stake because of me.”
There was a flicker of something deeper in her eyes… maybe resignation. Or the loss.
“Listen to me. We can talk about it and… it’s not your fault, Marissa…”
“We’ve sent the event people back, Dean,” she said, her voice flat, “so there is no reason for me to stay here anymore,” she picked up one chart paper that had the mural design of Peter, “No event means no work for me either. It’s best if I pack up everything and leave.”
Dean frowned, stepping closer, his gaze sweeping onto the empty desk that she used to occupy, “Marissa. You might be his wife, but I’ve never seen an intelligent woman like you. Plus…” he made a pout.
“Plus, what!”
“Plus, I think your phone is vibrating in your purse. I can feel this buzzing sound,” Marissa shrugged off his concern with the careless wave of her hand,
“Oh, it must be him.”
Rafael was trying to reach her, but she wasn’t attending the call. This morning, he kept trying to crack jokes just to make her laugh, but she ignored him and came to the office separately. She didn’t even go to the President’s office.
Dean chewed his lip, “You were handling everything so well. Please, stay! Otherwise, I’ll miss you,” he almost made a puppy face, but Marissa remained aloof.
“Good move, chief, but it’s not working on me,” she opened her bag and took out something.
There was a pack of chewing gum in her hand, “Wanna have one?”
Dean shook his head and placed his hands on his hips, “At least, go to his office and talk to him.”
“I’m not talking to anyone, Dean,” the door flung open, hitting the wall with a muffled thud and Rafael barged in.
“Strawberry!” for a moment she felt a blush coloring up her cheeks. He always called her that in private.
As he strode towards her, Marissa felt a remarkable shift in the atmosphere. A rush of electricity coursed through her making her heart race.
She turned to face him, and all the frustration not only left her but also fled outside the window.
Will he always have this kind of impact on me?

“I have been calling you,” He eyed the woman who was fumbling the straps of her bag. He got closer and freed the bag gently from her grip to hold her hands.
“Marissa!” He tried to look into her eyes, but she diverted her gaze and started staring at the wall as if that was the most important thing in the room.
Rafael then looked around and found the neatly stacked stuff on the corner table, “Did you clean this?”
“Yes!” Dean spoke.
“No!” Marissa exclaimed.
Rafael’s eyes darted between the two where Dean had confusion on his face and Marissa had rage.
Dean started stepping back. He needed to exit the room, leaving the husband-wife duo alone. But then Marissa gave a subtle shake of her head when she guessed what he was doing.
She needed him there.
“I’m packing it because my team is no longer part of MSin, Rafael. I was appointed to work with them, and you appointed me THEIR head. Now when they aren’t here, I guess I should go home and focus on my work and my kids.”
Rafael smiled when detected the bite in her voice. However, he didn’t dare to show it on his face. This was what he wanted.
He didn’t want a timid Marissa who depended on others for her rights. He wanted her to fight it herself.
He wanted to see her strong and confident. Just like he remembered when he started dating Valerie.
“Little Greene,” he held her face and leaned his forehead against hers, “Your life is in danger. I can’t risk that.”
Marissa held his wrists and exhaled, “If that’s the case, still we can’t punish innocent ones, Rafael.”
“And we don’t know who did it, Marissa,” he pointed out to her, “I can’t keep you under lock and key forever.”
“I know. And I trust you. I am sure, you’ll keep me safe, Rafael.”
That made him go silent. Her trust in him. Like an innocent child who loved to jump in the air, with the belief that he would be caught. And no one will dare to drop the catch.
“Fine!” he nodded and stepped back after kissing her lips, “Call them back, Dean,” he ordered without breaking eye contact with her and then pinched her nose, “but, Strawberry… you won’t sit here.”
“B…but my team…” how else would she work if she wouldn’t sit with her team?
“You will use the President’s office twenty-four seven. If you accept it, then I’m in.”
With a smile, Marissa nodded, “Fine. In case you are interested, I’ve asked Dean to install the cameras in the office.”
When she said that she thought she saw a flicker of emotion in his eyes. Pride!
He was proud of her for taking this decision boldly without even asking him. She might not be realizing it, but she was considering the MSin office as her home.
“That’s good,” he then turned to look at Dean, “Install the cameras wherever she wants,”
“Yes, Sir,” Dean made a mental note to get it done today. With crazy people around, there must be several cameras in all the offices of MSin.
