Chapter 263: 263- Was Rafael Hiding Something?

“What did just happen?” Nina and Valerie were still shaken, standing outside the gates of the White Palace.

“How dare those guards try to touch us?”

The humiliation was written in bold letters on Nina’s face.

“Marissa must be behind it,” Nina had to stop herself from rolling her eyes when she heard the same words from Valerie.

“Valerie!” she burst out, “That Delinda is obsessed with you just like you are obsessed with your sister!”

Valerie spun around seething with rage, “I’m NOT obsessed with her. She is the only one who has this much hatred against me. Mark my words, Nina. She is involved. Marissa is behind this drama!”

Nina started shaking her head, “Marissa! Involved in the White Palace? You must be out of your mind! My son might like to fu*ck her but nothing more than that. You dated him for three years, how many places did he gift you? Huh! Any palace, any home in your name? Any shop? A handkerchief?”

Valerie wasn’t convinced.

Marissa was involved. Why would a bunch of guards throw them out when so many other people were there?

We might be evil, but we aren’t terrorists!

Valerie almost jumped when Nina’s voice sliced through the silence, “Are you planning to stay here or get back to the hotel with me?”

She found Nina sitting in the backseat of the car, waiting for her.

“Hmm,”

“Oh,”

“Alright,”

“Fine!”

“Thanks. Bye!” Rafael placed down the receiver and tapped his desk lightly.

“Is everything good?” Dean and Joseph raised their heads from the file they were discussing.

“Nothing. It’s just,” he shrugged, “my wife is getting bolder day by day,”

Joseph chuckled, “Didn’t you want that?”

“I’m not complaining, man. It’s good.”

Dean didn’t have much idea what they were talking about, “What did she do?”

Rafael smirked and started twisting the paperweight between his fingers, “She just kicked out her sister and my mother,” he said closing one eye and Joseph was a little taken aback.

Why was his friend acting this way?

He wasn’t angry or sad due to his mother’s disrespect. He wasn’t confronting her for what she did a few years back.

His friend wasn’t someone to stay quiet, yet for some shitty reason, he was postponing it.

The problem was, Joseph couldn’t question him. He might be his friend, but Rafael’s intellect wasn’t allowing him to think anything negative. His friend was in the habit of keeping secrets and then revealing them at the right time.

There was something fishy about this scenario. Rafael was hiding something. And Joseph bet that he was hiding it from his wife too.

What was that? What it might be?

Valerie wasn’t Rafael’s wife and Rafael not giving a damn about her was justified.

But Marissa just kicked his mom out of their house and here he was sitting in his seat with a proud grin.

In their teenage years, Joseph had seen how he cared about his mom. What happened now? What changed about Nina in the last few years?

“Joseph?” Dean had to tap his shoulder, “Where are you, man? Thinking about something?”

Before Joseph could reply, Rafael responded with amusement in his voice, “Maybe he’s thinking about someone.”

Joseph avoided the eye contact with his friend. Rafael was referring to Sophia and he wasn’t wrong. They were seeing each other, and he was sure that this relationship was turning into something serious.

“How is Abi?” that was the only question Joseph could come up with, to divert Rafael’s attention from him.

“Nice try!” Rafael grinned smugly, “Abi is doing good. We need to follow the diet plan and take her to the doctor after six months. Otherwise, it can also take up to one year.”

“She’ll be well in no time,” Dean rose to his feet and took the file from the desk, “She is a smart kid… just like his mamma.”

“Yeah. Stay away from my wife, Dean,” Rafael tried to bring sternness in his voice, but it went unnoticed by Dean. He might be working for Joseph and Rafael but was painfully faithful to Marissa.

“I’ll try!” Dean had reached near the door but then looked back, “Rafael. Please don’t make an entry in the event until I tell you so.”

Rafael eyed the assistant with a frown, “Sure, Dean.”

When Dean left, Rafael curved down his lips, “Look at him. Ever since Marissa joined the office, he has started speaking his mind.”

Joseph chuckled but spoke nothing. Rafael was right. Dean was becoming bolder and more confident in his work.

Kate had a sick feeling in the pit of her stomach. The woman who closed the window in a flash looked like Marissa. And then within minutes, guards were dragging away Nina and Valerie.

She made a good choice when she chose to stay with Marissa. Today it was more evident that Nina and Valerie didn’t have any value.

“Oh. I know what you are thinking,” She looked back when heard Delinda behind her, “This is all Marissa’s doing. No one can be as dangerous as the mistress of your husband or son. Marissa knows how to cash herself.”

Kate was never a fan of Marissa but there was one thing she loved and that was money. By disrespecting Marissa, she couldn’t afford to lose her job and her MSin café.

“We need to get back to work, Del,” Kate tried to walk towards Shan Chi who was asking the carpenter to provide an extra slab near his table.

Delinda was quick to stop her by placing her hand, “We also need to stand against bad, Kate.”

“Agree!” Kate gave her an over-brightened smile and hugged her. She didn’t have time for this craziness of this woman, “let’s go and get done with our job. We can’t afford to lose it for Marissa. She isn’t worth it.”

Delinda felt satisfied with the explanation and Kate felt proud for coming up with such a good excuse.

She had to get her table set before paying a visit to her designer. Being a chef didn’t mean she couldn’t look good.

She wanted to dazzle the people at the party, not knowing that there would be someone who would overshadow her.
