Chapter 276: 276- Abigail and Nina
“Even if you don’t want to sleep then at least close your eyes,” lying beside her, Sophia mumbled. Marissa couldn’t find it in herself to lie in her bedroom, so she decided to stay in the guest room with Sophie.
Tonight, even Joseph and Dean were given guest rooms too.
Marissa still didn’t feel like sleeping. She only felt like dying. She swore that once Rafael would come back, she would give him a tight slap right across his face and then leave him forever. Who does that to his wife?
“Did he even love me? I thought he did!” Her voice drifted through the room, Sophie propped on her elbow and looked at Marissa’s face.
“Can you stop doing that to yourself?” Marissa chuckled but it lacked humor.
She closed her eyes to show her friend, she was as tired as her.
The problem was this: his face. That used to appear behind her eyelids whenever she closed her eyes.
“Are you mad at me?” there was concern in his voice when he spoke in her head.
“Get lost!” she almost screamed at him in her mind and turned to the other side. She placed a pillow on her head.
Maybe Sophie is right. I should get some sleep. What if Rafael is waiting for me to go to sleep? What if THIS is the surprise? Once when I wake up, he will be there with open arms with that mischievous grin.
She inhaled a long breath and squeezed her eyes close. The light snoring behind her told her that Sophie had already gone to sleep.
Poor fellow!
She stayed awake with her all this time. When Marissa was making calls to people to ask about Rafael, her friend kept herself busy with the kids.
She didn’t let kids have much interaction with their mom, otherwise they would have gotten worried.
Her friend tried her best not to let kids notice Nina. Which was obviously next to impossible. But she was trying.
Marissa stayed in the bed, still trying to concentrate on her breathing.
Before Rafael came back into her life, this was exactly how she used to stay awake for the whole night.
And now with him gone, her sleep cycle seemed to be in shambles again.
She had been awake for more than twenty-four hours and was just a human who needed her sleep. She drifted off within the next few minutes.

She was in the waiting area of the police station. After getting hardly two hours of sleep, she had gotten up and left the house at the first crack of dawn.
She was told that the police chief would arrive after around one hour. She didn’t mind the wait, as she didn’t have anything better to do at home.
Shaking her leg in anxiety, she kept waiting for the man who was supposed to get there. One or two officers tried to talk her into leaving but couldn’t convince her.
God knew how long she waited when at last a uniformed officer informed her that the police chief had arrived.
She stood up and followed him to the room where a smart man around her age was sitting on the revolving chair.
“Mrs. Sinclair?” he got up from his seat in respect, “please have a seat.”
“Thank you,” she settled down and took off her dark glasses, “I’m here to ask about my husband.”
He watched her as if she had gone nuts, “Mrs. Sinclair,” he chuckled, “you just filed the report last night.”
“So?” she leaned back, “my husband is missing for more than twenty-four hours. I had to wait several hours to make you people write a report because it was the protocol I needed to follow. Is there any other protocol that says, I need to wait some more after the report?” she was confidently looking into his eyes.

The man seemed a little intimidated by the woman. He had heard that Mrs. Sinclair’s reunited with her husband after five years. If that was the truth, then there should be a timid girl pleading with him for help.
But no. This one was not the pleading one.
“W-Will you like… some coffee?”
Marissa cocked up a brow, “Why? Is that also a protocol?” she asked, pasting a fake smile on her lips.
She was fuming.
Rafael was missing and all this officer was doing, wasting his and her time.
Nodding his head, he rubbed his palm over his hair, “Mrs. Sinclair. When we received Mr. Sinclair’s news that he was missing, we were already working on Delinda’s case.”
“What has Delinda got to do with my husband?” She shot the question.
“That’s what we are working on. We have to assess the case from every angle.”
Marissa nodded and got to her feet, “I’ll come again to take the report. I hope you find him before that.”
The officer wanted to laugh at her confidence. He was the one who used to ask for reports from his subordinates.
“You can call us,” he said, handing her a visiting card, “this is my card. My contact details are also listed.”
After a moment’s hesitation, Marissa held the card.
She didn’t have any intention to call the man. She would rather visit him personally and grill him until he would materialize Rafael out of his pocket.
She was also thinking of asking Joseph to use his connections in the high circles.
After silently coming out of the police station, she walked to her car. Wearing her glasses, she leaned back in her back seat when the chauffeur started the car.
What if I go home and find Rafael waiting for me? And then something crossed her mind!
“Stop the car!” She ordered the driver, practically leaping out of her seat.

“Where is Mommy?” Ariel asked Sophie who was helping her up on the chair, “I don’t know, Aunt Sophie, what my parents are up to?”
Raising her brows, Ariel shook her head, gesturing wildly, causing Sophia to think, Valerie had materialized before her eyes.
“You are getting naughtier, pumpkin,” she brushed her finger on the little girl’s nose tip, “Where is your sister?” Sophie asked Alex and Ariel.
Alex, who had started eating his scrambled eggs, shrugged and picked up a cashew nut from the nearby bowl, “I don’t know. She left the room earlier than us.”
Emily raised her hand and left her seat, “Let me look for her, Ms. Sophia.”
She must have taken one or two steps when Sophia pointed towards the open door of the living room, “Check there, Emily.”
Emily rushed there and Sophia also followed her, and they both halted in the doorway. Abigail was lying over Nina’s sleeping figure with a cute smile.
Before Sophie could rush out and peel her off the older woman’s body, the car entered the gates and Marissa stepped off along with a boy who must be six or maybe seven.
However, she also froze when she found her little girl sprawled across the back of sleeping Nina on the floor.
