Chapter 279: 279- Faded
“It’s been three fuc*king days and still no sign of my husband!” Marissa shouted angrily. Her hands were balled into tight fists by her sides, “he was a whole human being not a mere insect or a fly that you couldn’t locate him.”
“Mrs. Sinclair,” the police chief offered her a pack of Kleenex and that was when she realized that she was crying, sitting in the damn police station.
She pulled some angrily into her fists and started wiping her face roughly.
“Mrs. Sinclair. We understand, how you must be feeling…”
“No, you don’t!” she shot at them, “No, you don’t understand what I’m feeling because you aren’t the one to face your kids. How can you explain this to five-year-old kids that their father … he is … missing…”
The officer kept his gaze lower. He could understand the pain and he was trying his best.
“Mrs. Sinclair. I promise you. We will have something positive this evening. I promise you.”
She sniffed her nose, “You told me the same thing three days back.”
“Yes. I know. And I apologize. Mrs. Sinclair, we have been working on a clue for the past three days. Ms. Delinda’s post-mortem reports are due this evening and I’m sure, we will get a breakthrough from it.”
Marissa wanted to kill everyone. She was getting crazier each day and that was making her half mad.
She still didn’t understand what Delinda had to do with Rafael’s missing status.
Right now, she also wanted to kill the officer who was sitting on his ass instead of looking for her husband.

“Granny. Do you think Daddy is hiding somewhere just to tease us? Or is he really missing?” Abi asked Granny while sitting on her lap.
Nina looked at Alex who was trying hard to show himself busy, but he also wanted to hear the answer to this question.
He was telling Georgie about building something from the Legos, but his eyes kept darting back to Nina, curious enough to know what she would say.
“I don’t think Daddy will hide just to tease us, Abi,” Ariel who was sitting beside Nina, leaned her cheek on her granny’s arm. Nina was quick to place her arm around her little figure.
Alex wasn’t participating but Nina could see how he was worried for his father. Several times he had stomped his feet in frustration.
“We will know about daddy, soon,” Nina told the girls, “I can feel it in the air.”
“How to feel in the air?” Abi raised her nose and flared her nostrils, “maybe I can feel it too. I can smell Daddy in the air.”
Mimicking her act, Ariel also took a long whiff and nodded excitedly, “Granny is right. I can also smell Daddy.”
Marissa who had just gotten back from the police station was now leaning just outside the kids’ room door.
She thanked Nina mentally for putting positivity in the kids’ heads. Being a mess, she had been a bad mother lately.
Trying to control her tears she also raised her head and sniffed the air, “I hope your kids aren’t wrong, Rafael. You should come back to us. Please.”

Marissa was sitting on the couch quietly while Dean and Joseph were discussing about an online meeting with all the offices of MSin.
All the offices of MSin were reported to face slight chaos due to the news of Rafael’s absence. Joseph wanted to assure the employees that they were in safe hands.
True to his word, the police officer knocked on the door and the butler Sheldon Brown let him in.
“Good evening, Mrs. Sinclair. See? I kept my word,” he tried to smile, but the tension in the room didn’t let him.

Marissa’s heart started sinking. Why was he here without her husband?
This time he didn’t even bring the lieutenant with him and came all alone.
Like the first time, he took off his cap and placed it down on the coffee table
“Mrs. Sinclair… you might want to sit down before I tell you this.”
Slowly and gradually every one of them did the opposite and started getting on their feet. Even Nina came out of the kids’ room and closed the door softly behind her.
“Mrs. Sinclair. I told you that we had doubts about Delinda’s death,” After hearing Delinda’s name, Marissa looked over her shoulder to silently confirm with Nina that Georgie was sleeping. Nina nodded at her and blinked. She knew what Marissa wanted to ask.
“When we found Delinda near the Silvercrest fall, there was blood all over her. We sent the samples to our labs and received the blood reports and post-mortem reports this evening. The blood on her clothes was of Rafael.”
There were several gasps in the room, “a butcher knife was found near her. We hid this information initially because we didn’t want you to get panicked. Now our experts have confirmed it. Delinda stabbed Rafael with the knife and pushed him into the water. Her clothes were soaked in his blood. The place from where she pushed him also had blood stains and they didn’t belong to her but Rafael. She pushed him from the Silvercrest cliff, and the amount of blood found there, our experts have claimed Rafeal Sinclair is dead. I’m sorry, Mrs. Sinclair. Your husband is no more.”
The people standing there stared at him in shock and disbelief. Marissa felt as if someone had knocked the wind out of her.
She slowly moved her gaze to look around. Everyone had their mouths open and eyes wide. Butler, Emily, Nina, Sophie, Dean and Joseph.
She tried to inhale Oxygen, but it seemed like she had almost forgotten how to breathe. Her hand flew to her chest as she struggled to take a breath but couldn’t do it. She suddenly felt light-headed. Her eyes rolled back, and she felt darkness enveloping her.
The last thing she remembered was the screams as if someone were calling her at the top of their lungs.
Maybe it was Sophie or maybe it was Emily. Or maybe both.
And then everything faded into oblivion…
Into pitch darkness… just as her head hit the floor.
