Chapter 283: 283- A changed Nina
Marissa took the kids to the grocery mart because she thought they would enjoy the experience but all they kept doing in the store was talking about Rafael. Marissa’s health coach had asked her to let the kids talk about their father.
But now it had started taking a toll on her mental health.
The girls were telling Georgie how their father bought them everything except those flavored candies. A gentle smile tugged on Marissa’s lips.
Last time, while standing at the cash counter, she treated Rafael as if she didn’t know him at all when he was taking out all those condom packets from the cart.
I hope you can come back. Just once, Rafael. Just once. I swear I won’t stand there like a stranger, no matter how embarrassing the situation is.
“Ma’am! Ma’am!”
Marissa jolted back into reality when Georgie shook her hand, “Aunt Marissa. It’s your turn now,” Marissa glanced back and found the people standing behind her looking at her oddly.
“Isn’t she Marissa Sinclair? Her event at Msin was covered by channels.”
“Oh, my, my. Are these Rafael Sinclair’s kids? They are so cute…”
Marissa quickly paid the bill on the counter and left the store.
“Hurry up, kids,” she slipped back her dark shades and got settled with the kids in the back seat. With each passing day, it was getting worse for her.
Everything reminded her of him. No matter how hard she tried to keep herself busy, his se*xy image used to pop up in her mind.
When she was getting down from the car, she found Geena coming out of the house.
“Hello, Mrs. Sinclair,” Marissa had a faint memory of the girl following Nina around in the office. The girl was looking at her with a somber expression. Marissa gave her a polite nod and headed inside.
Nina’s face lit up as soon as she spotted the kids.
“Whoa. Look at you all. You all forgot your granny behind! Now come here and let me punish you.”
The girls started squealing in delight when Nina started teasing their necks with the feather-like touch of her fingers.
“Granny! Sorry!” Abi laughed loudly and for a moment Marissa wanted to clamp her hand on her daughter’s mouth.
She was getting scared of smiles, laughter… happiness.
The constant fear that something might happen anyway, anytime to anyone. She tiredly plopped onto the sofa and took the glass from the maid who brought her water.
“Ask. Emily to take the kids for the nap,” she asked the woman and lifted the glass to her lips. Nina straightened when the kids left with Emily and gave Marissa a critical look.
She narrowed her eyes, her voice cutting through the silence, “What did you have for breakfast?”
Marissa blinked, her head slowly lifting from her scattered thoughts, “Hmm,”
Nina heaved a long sigh before standing up and getting to Marissa to sit beside her.
“Marissa. When was the last time you had a proper meal?” her voice might be stern, but Marissa felt a flicker of concern beneath it.
“I … I had a toast… and …”
“Who eats a toast for breakfast, Marissa?” Nina had disappointment on her face, and this was new to Marissa.
She didn’t care for her when she was living with Rafael. And now suddenly out of nowhere… just because of kids…
“I’m asking you something. J- Just look at your face. Eating toast isn’t…”

“I had it with coffee. Ok?” Marissa snapped and got up.
Nina wasn’t prepared for this reaction, “But coffee isn’t a healthy option either.”
“Why? Why should I stay healthy? For whom?” Nina’s brows furrowed a little and there was an unexplainable expression on her face.
“Trust me, Nina. Nobody is interested to see my face whether it’s pale or red or gray… nobody wants to see this crappy face…”
Before Nina could stop her, Marissa stormed out of there.
She was getting sick and tired of all the people around her who wanted her to eat, sleep, and repeat as if she were a baby.
There was only one man who could see her shitty face with that gorgeous smile even if she was dressed in rags.
“Nobody can take your place. Ever!” Marissa took out her cleaning kit and decided to deep clean her attached bathroom.
This was how she used to spend her time. By cleaning each and every place in this house that used to remind her of him. His smell used to emanate from every corner of the house, and she wanted to get rid of it.

“It will take time, but then she will come around it,” Nina who had gotten up when Marissa left in a rage, spun around and found Sophie standing there.
“Give her some time,” Sophie repeated, and Nina didn’t have any choice except to bob her head.
“No one realizes that I’m a mom and I lost a son too,” placing her hands on her knees, she sat back on the couch, “I’m so busy in consoling and comforting everyone that I have almost forgotten, the man was a very fine son… My only son…”
Nina chewed her lower lip a little too brutally, “I raised him without the presence of my husband. He died when Rafael was younger than Alex.”
Sophie slowly signaled a maid and asked her to bring something to drink. Nina needed to relax. She was right.
She had been consoling everyone, but no one could return her the same favor.
“Tell me!” Sophie almost jumped on the other couch with her legs folded under her, “I’m all ears.”
Nina raised her eyes, and the corner of her lips curled up into a small smile, “Really?”
“Umm hmm. Really. Go ahead before I change my mind! Tell me everything about you and Rafael.”
Poor Sophie didn’t know what got into Nina. She chuckled and placed her palms on her face, “Oh, Rafael. My son!” Sophie saw the woman’s shaking figure with sadness and felt sorry.
She silently got up and headed to the older woman to offer her the shoulder and the comfort, she deserved like everyone else in the house.
She couldn’t believe it. Rafael’s mother had changed.
Nina wasn’t the same rude woman anymore.
