Chapter 286: 286- President of MSin Industries
Valerie was fuming. How dare Marissa talk to her like this?
She got enough insults when Rafael was giving her all the attention in the office. People stopped respecting her.
She again got insulted when Rafael announced at the event that he had a family, right when she was there as his wife.
And see, what he got in return? Death!
And now today, the grand palace where she was sitting, belonged to Marissa which was gifted by Rafael. Her husband.
Swallowing down the large lump she tried to control her labored breathing.
Later, Valerie. Later.
I won’t let Marissa live on Rafael’s hard-earned money. No matter how hard she would try. She will always be known as Rafael’s mistress.
He has only one wife and that is me. Valerie Sinclair!
You just wait and watch, what I would do to you, Marissa.
Gritting her teeth, she didn’t dare to speak anymore. The lawyer who was sitting there as if he was a dead body, cleared his throat and raised his eyes above his reading glasses.
“I’m here to handover to you Mr. Rafael’s possessions,” he paused and opened the dossier that was placed on his lap, “The thing is…” he picked up a glass of water and took a sip from it, “I know you all might be disappointed after hearing this. But please know that I’m just an employee and nothing else. I’m telling whatever is written here in the papers.”
Nina shifted uncomfortably in her seat, “We know you will tell us whatever is written there. Please feel free to speak. I’m Rafael’s mom and no matter how little he has given me. I’ll be happy with it. I assure you I don’t need my son’s money.”
Valerie who was sitting nearby, started coughing suddenly. Nina was always a walking drama. Oddly, most people never acknowledged it.
“Sir,” she spoke, “I’m Valerie Sinclair. I hope before handing over the property, you will check the papers for confirmation. I have got my wedding contract at home, and I can easily ask my servants to mail it here. In case he has given anything to his wife, then that’s me. I don’t think, Ms. Marissa has gotten anything to prove her relationship in court.”
The lawyer who was observing Nina and Valerie’s faces, regarded them for a minute and then chuckled, “No one needs to worry about all this stuff.”
He said flipping the pages and every person in the room frowned at his words. Except Marissa.
She must be the only one who didn’t want to be in that room. All she wanted to do was run away somewhere.
If someone would trade the money to bring back Rafael Sinclair, she was very much willing to do it.
Nina and Valerie’s voices had started irritating her.
A hand crept near hers and held it gently.
Sophie!
Marissa’s eyes moved in her direction and Sophie had a reassuring smile on her face. Marissa squeezed her hand to tell her silently that she was fine.
There was no marriage contract between her and Rafael. Yet they were spouses.
They had a beautiful family. Nobody knew what kind of will he had left.
“Sir. If you can get done with the will, then I would like to spend my time with my grandkids,” Nina said with a sigh.
Sophie rolled her lips in between her teeth. Though she was also upset about her friend who was the rightful heir to Rafael’s generous property.
“Yes, sir,” Val nodded, “Please. Let’s get done with it so that we can get back to our jobs,” this time Sophie was having difficulty suppressing her smile.
Valerie? Job?

Since when has Valerie been interested in doing a job? Isn’t she the same woman who wanted everything without putting in the hard work?
“Mrs. Nina Sinclair?” the lawyer asked her and found Nina nodding her head, “and Ms. Valerie?” Valerie started nodding her head rapidly, “If you two don’t have time to sit here, you both can leave.”
Everyone in the room thought that he was being sarcastic.
Valerie was quick to hide her bored expression, “No. That’s not urgent. I was … just… saying…” she raised her shoulder.
Nina also nodded in agreement.
The man took off his reading glasses and leaned back in his seat, “No. I’m serious. You all can leave.”
There were confused glances and soft murmurs in the room.
“What is he saying?”
“What about the will?”
“Why can’t he read the will and get done with it?”
Nina decided to take the charge, “Mr. Barter. Aren’t you here to read the will? Why would we leave without listening to it?”
The man closed the dossier and looked at Nina, “Because, Mrs. Sinclair. There is no will.”
“What?” Nina’s shocked voice resonated in the room.
Valerie also stood up, “What?”
There was stunned silence in the library.
“Th…then…” Sophie decided to step up, “then why are you here? Why are we here?”
The man raised his hand in an urgent gesture, “You all are here so that I can tell you all, that … there is no will. Mr. Rafael Sinclair didn’t own any property.”
Nina also got up in frustration. At this point, she wanted to hit the man, with that vase, placed behind him, “Mr. Barter. Is it because you are getting old or are you just playing with our minds?”
Mr. Barter didn’t seem to mind the insult, “I might be getting old but I know what I’m talking about. You all might be having the impression that Mr. Sinclair was a trillionaire. But that’s not the case.”
“Crap!” Nina hissed, “My son was leaving every morning to earn that money. He never gambled. So, no. I don’t think he lost every penny to someone in a casino. What’s going on here, Mr. Barter? He was an industrialist and owned the chain of MSin offices across the globe…” By now, Nina was panting after the speech.
The man was shaking his head, “He might be leaving for work daily, but he didn’t own MSin. He was working there as an employee.”
Now everyone left their seat including Marissa.
“Employee?”
“Yes,” he smiled, “MSin never belonged to him. He was just an employee there.”
“Oh really?” Valerie had bitterness in her voice, “and working for whom? Because he owned Sinclair Industries, and five years back, he changed its name to MSin. Miles Sinclair. His grandfather.”
“I know that, Ms. Valerie,” He slowly got up from his chair, “Miles Sinclair used to be my senior and I have met him. A very impressive man. However here MSin was never for Miles Sinclair. It was for Marissa Sinclair.”
Every person who was standing there had almost stopped breathing.
“M- Marissa… S- Sinclair…” Nina stuttered, and Mr. Barter nodded.
“Five years back, after a few months of his eye operation, he called me and asked me to meet him. He named every piece of his property in Ms. Marissa’s name. Nothing belonged to him. He was never the owner. And he told me a long time back that once Marissa returned, he would hand over everything to her. He was just an employee. It’s Marissa Sinclair who is the President of MSin Industries.”
