Chapter 287: 287- Will-reading Ceremony Is Over!
“What are you saying, Rafael?” Mr. Barter wasn’t expecting such a silly decision from the business tycoon Rafael Sinclair.
“Do you even realize what you’re saying? You don’t know this girl except for what she told you about her being your wife. What if she flees after getting your property?”
Rafael who was leaning back in his seat with his eyes closed, smiled lazily, “She has already fled, Mr. Barter,” he finally opened his eyes, “Guess what? She left without telling me. Without taking a penny. Yet, she has taken my precious things.”
Barter’s eyes shot up in disbelief, “She stole something from you?”
“Not exactly stole. Mr. Barter. She is pregnant with my kids,” he then looked into the older man’s eyes, “I need help and you’re the only one I can trust. No one should know about this deal. Not my mom. Not Valerie.”
“What if,” he bent over, lowering his voice, “Mrs. Sinclair comes to know about it?”
Rafael flinched at the use of his words, “Stop calling her Mrs. Sinclair when she isn’t,”
Barter got quiet after that. He didn’t know how to convince this man, not to do it with himself, “You are pulling the rug out, from under your feet, Rafael. I can’t let you destroy your family’s wealth. Your grandfather and father made it to the top as billionaires. But you have to take it several steps ahead. Once this girl knows what you have done, she won’t take a minute to take advantage of it.”
Rafael who was absentmindedly playing with the paperweight, abruptly let go of it, causing it to spin and slide to the other side of the desk, “She won’t do any such thing. If she is the woman who has been living with me for the past two years, then we only need each other, Mr. Barter. I realized it late, and I need to correct it now. Help me in making everything right for her.”
Barter watched Rafael who looked like a completely different person to him. He had seen him growing up and this was the first time he was being this crazy.
“If something happens to me, Valerie and Mom won’t take a minute to get their hands on this property. Marissa is the one who deserves it. There aren’t any wedding pictures, and I need to come up with something smart. This is the only way. If something happens to me in the future, she won’t get a dime. There won’t be any proof that we got married or those kids share my DNA. It’s better if I transfer all assets in her name,” he then got up from his seat and rounded the table to get close to Barter.
“I’m seeing what no one can see,” he leaned his hip against the edge of the desk, “This wealth made them do such crazy things. I don’t know about my mom’s crazy obsession with blonde girls. For now, I can’t question either of them unless I find her and win her heart.”
Barter eased back a little, his lips curled up in a wry smile, “Win her heart? Are you…” he cleared his throat, “do you mean to say that… the president of Sinclair Industries has fallen for…”
“Yeah. Sort of,” Rafael bit back the smile but Barter could see happiness in his eyes along with the guilt that he couldn’t stop Marissa from leaving Sangua City.
“Fine! If you think, this should be done then give me a day. The documents will be on your desk tomorrow,” Barter then started rubbing the nape of his neck, “Can you please sit down? My poor neck is starting to strain.”
With a smirk, Rafael went back to his seat and closed his eyes, “Barter!”
Barter who was standing from his seat, shot him a glance, “Hmm?”
“Make the documents in Marissa Aaron’s name.”
“Didn’t you say she is Marissa Sinclair?”
“Yes, she is. The one and only,” Rafael had a broken expression on his face, “For me, she is Marissa Sinclair. However, for the world, she is an Aaron. I don’t want anyone to challenge her ownership in the future just because she won’t be able to prove that she is my wife. Keep it Aaron on papers,” Rafael was staring at the ceiling, “the people here are wolves in sheep’s clothing. They will come up with excuses, to prevent her from taking this money. I need to play smarter for her sake.”
“Rafael!” Barter felt sympathy for the boy who grew up before his eyes, “What if this woman, Marissa… what if she marries someone else and doesn’t come back to you?”
Barter realized he had crossed the line when saw Rafael clenching his jaw. There was a certain iciness that crept into his eyes, “Even if she doesn’t return to me. This property will still belong to her,” he snapped, “there’s no question about that.”
For Barter, this day was full of surprises.
The owner of Sinclair Industries was head over heels and didn’t want anything to do with the money.

Barter looked at the woman who was standing there open-mouthed along with others. For the first time, Barter thought he misjudged a person. Throughout the meeting, she didn’t utter a single word as if she was least interested in the property.
Unlike Nina or Valerie, she wasn’t even listening to him properly, nor she was asking any questions regarding Rafael’s property.

There was no nastiness, no excitement in her action. Barter could see coldness in those eyes. The same coldness one feels when a loved one is lost
She was equally in love with her husband. Any sane person in the room could see that.
“This can’t be possible,” Valerie screeched, her voice filled with disbelief and frustration, “she isn’t even a Sinclair. Check her ID. She is Marissa Aaron.”
“I know,” Barter offered the file to Nina and gestured for Valerie to have a look at it, “It’s Marissa Aaron that is mentioned in the documents. Not Marissa Sinclair,” he then eyed Nina, “And Mrs. Sinclair! Rafael told me about your shares. He said Marissa would transfer the equivalent amount to your account. Because Rafael always had the proper documentation of your shares.”
“This is insane!” Valerie grabbed her purse wildly and stomped her foot, “I never knew Rafael could be this pathetic. How could he do this to me?”
Wiping her wet cheeks she turned to Nina, “Say something! Don’t you know who his wife is?”
Nina kept looking at her and then her face broke into a smile, “I’m happy that I’m living with my grandchildren. Now, you can leave, Valerie. The will-reading ceremony is over! B-Bye”
