Chapter 289: 289- Geena’s Semesters
“I thought you were sleeping,” Marissa didn’t realize that she was so busy staring at her kids’ sleeping faces that she didn’t hear Sophie coming inside.
Placing her palms on the mattress, she straightened and rested her back on the hardboard. After hugging each other, they all came to the bed. Kids shared with her how they missed their father and Marissa listened to them very patiently.
Their pain needed to be acknowledged and she gently explained that from now on, their father would watch over them from afar. He would share in their happiness and sadness, cheering for them as before. The only difference was that they wouldn’t be able to see or hold him.
While saying the words, she could feel sharp pain clawing her heart, but she had to offer solace to her children. They were far too young to bear this kind of grief.
They never knew what a father figure could be like and then when they got him, they were over the moon.
Girls were happy that they could show off their daddy to their friends. But after losing Rafael they needed to be heard.
Marissa didn’t want to accept it, but Nina had been a great support all this time.
Requesting Emily to sit near the kids, she came out of the room with Sophie.
“How about we plan a vacation with kids?” Sophie suggested to her, “It can divert their mind off all the tension.”
She had a point. Marissa liked it.
“Yes, we can think along the lines,” The word ‘vacation’ brought memories of him when he kidnapped her to the beach.
Every word, every instance, every human reminded her of him.
“Or we can take them to a water park too,” Marissa said thoughtfully.
They went outside to sit in the garden, and Marissa asked a maid to give them coffee there.
“So, what’s next?” Sophie asked her as the maid started serving them chicken strips and dipping sauce along with coffee.
“I don’t know,” Marissa shrugged with uncertainty, “so many documents to be signed. So many business associates to deal with…” She pressed her temples in frustration.
“Hey, hey!” Sophie placed the cup quickly down, “Marissa. Give it time. Give yourself time. Ask those goons to wait. Sinclair Industries isn’t going anywhere. Ok?” Marissa nodded with a thankful grin.
“I don’t know what I would have done without you.”
Sophie rolled her eyes and picked up her cup, “Don’t be silly.”
“You and Joseph must be disturbed too. I had been so busy in myself lately that I didn’t realize…”
“Urgh,” Sophie groaned, “Stop thinking about my bang bang life!”
Marissa started laughing but Sophie kept sternness on her face, “OK. Sorry, Dr. Sophia. Now finish your coffee. Tonight, we are watching a good movie. How about that!”
Sophia’s face lit up, “Just like old times?”
“Just like old times!” she muttered casually.
Life needed to go on! Right?

“Are you out of your fu*cking mind?” Nina snarled at Geena who was standing there trying not to shiver, “Are you telling me on my face that you’re resigning? Have you forgotten everything I did for you?”
Geena was expecting this shit, but she wasn’t prepared for this brutal reaction.
“I told you, I got admission to the college, and I won’t be able to continue this job. A part-time is my requirement, for now, Geena,” she mumbled, her voice barely audible.

Nina kept looking at Geena with that dangerous glare.
“Who is financially supporting your education?” Nina’s sharp voice cut through the silence.
Geena blinked, taken aback, “Sorry?” she shifted uncomfortably under her boss’s piercing gaze.
“I’m not a fool, Geena,” Nina hissed, her lips curling into a cold smirk, “Tell me who is helping you with it. Is it Ethan? Have you started giving him your bed services to support yourself?”
“Nina!” Geena gasped as she stared at Nina in shock, “Why do you keep assuming that I can’t do anything except bedwarming?”
“I never assumed that you only know bed warming. It’s also the way you try to flutter your eyes when you see males around you.”
Geena scoffed in disgust. She should have left the job long ago- sure it paid her handsomely, but there wasn’t an ounce of respect in it.
Staying here had cost her more than her dignity.
“That’s great,” Geena shrugged with an over-brightened smile that didn’t reach her eyes, “Then I hope you won’t mind if I part ways with your fashion business,”
“I won’t be needing the support of the fashion industry anymore. I’ve heard that Marissa might be handing over MSin to me as I’m the only one capable of running a business here,” She finished it with a shrug.
What? Marissa is thinking of handing over MSin to …
Geena couldn’t think about it anymore. Why would Marissa trust this woman?
“That’s good!” Geena said, nodding vigorously, “So this is the perfect time to leave, I guess.”
Nina kept staring at her face, making Geena increasingly uncomfortable so the poor girl spoke again, “So, I think I should take my leave.”
“Tell me this, Geena,” Nina got up from her seat, “you didn’t tell me who is financing your education?”
“Rafael Sinclair. Your son!” Geena dropped the bomb, “He paid for the initial two semesters and after that, I’m on my own…”
Nina seemed shocked by the revelation.
“And no, I didn’t sleep with him, Nina,” she offered her a sarcastic smirk before turning away to leave.
Nina tried calling her name, but she had already left the library.

Geena was walking out of the MSin Palace appreciating its beauty silently when she saw Marissa having coffee with her friend.
Marissa nodded at her with a polite smile. Geena didn’t know what got into her, so she started walking towards the women, enjoying their coffee.
When they saw her coming towards them, Marissa got up with a formal smile, “I hope you met Nina.”
Geena quickly turned and offered a polite nod to Sophie, who was openly giving her a once-over.
“I was here to resign,” she informed Marissa.
“Oh,” Marissa got serious, “I hope everything is good. You must have found a better job,”
“Not exactly,” Geena then decided to tell her, “I’m continuing my studies, Mrs. Marissa Sinclair,” Marissa was surprised by Geena’s sudden candor, “And thanks to your husband who promised to help with my education. I’ll soon be joining college. He was such a kind soul. Nobody does that for anyone. That too for your mom’s assistant.”
Marissa was stunned by the revelation.
“I… I’m sorry…” Geena stuttered but she needed to say this, “I know this isn’t my place to say it b-but… but I think… Marissa… Mrs. Sinclair … you should go for Msin’s president. No need to trust anyone.”
The smile vanished from Marissa’s face, “I’m sorry?”
“Nina just told me that you’re thinking of handing over her MSin. I would say don’t do that. If Rafael trusted you, he must have seen something in you…” Geena didn’t know what else to say.
Marissa was looking at her with wide eyes full of curiosity.
“I’m sorry for saying too much…” she gave her a sheepish grin, “I know I’m just your mother-in-law’s assistant but … I mean ex-assistant…”
“N-no…,” Marissa raised her finger to stop her, “it’s perfectly fine. I appreciate your words. Thank you.”
Geena nodded and then stepped back to leave, “I think I should go.”
“Wait a minute!” Marissa stopped her, “you said Rafael paid only for your initial semesters,”
“Yeah,” Geena chuckled, “and it’s not a problem. I can work hard for the rest of the semesters. I only needed a chance,”
Geena saluted, gazing at both Marissa and Sophia, “Bye…”
“Wait a minute!” Marissa’s voice halted her in her tracks.
“Yes, ma’am?”
“Don’t worry about the rest of your semesters!”
Geena blinked in surprise, “What!”
“After Rafael, your semesters are my responsibility, Geena.”
That day when Geena left the MSin Palace she was grinning ear to ear.
Marissa is a good woman. Alas! If only she knew what I did to Rafael!
