Chapter 292: 292- Valerie (II)
She took a cab home and got off it. Thanks to Ethan who gave her extra cash to help her reach home.
However, the guard didn’t open the gate for her.
“Will you please open the gates?”
The uniformed guard eyed her suspiciously, “Who are you?”
“Excuse me? This is my home, and I need to go inside,” She replied haughtily.
The guard looked at her face and opened his tab.
Odd! Her guards never used tabs to check their owner’s faces, “I’m sorry, ma’am.”
“It’s ok,” she smiled with relief, “you should learn some manners, mister. Now please open the gates. I need to go inside.”
The guard started shaking his head, “I’m sorry but I can’t let you in. I have been told that you aren’t the owner.”
Valerie frowned and her hand shot to the guard’s collar, “Are you in your senses? If I’m not the owner, then who is?” she was shaking the poor guy brutally while he was trying his best not to touch the woman.
First that insult at the bank and now this!
Someone from behind, held her by her shoulders and peeled her off the guy, “Stop attacking the guards otherwise we’ll call the police.”
Valerie watched the other guy who was also wearing the guard’s uniform.
“This is my home, and he isn’t letting me in,” her voice raised in rage, “I’m the owner of this house. Call someone from home and let me talk.”
“There is no one at home, the owners of this house are in Kanderton. We don’t have orders to open the gates for anyone.”
“Yes. I’m Valerie Sinclair and I’m the owner. I just returned from Kanderton,” she opened her arms to let them see her, “See? I’m back from Kanderton.”
The guard was looking at her as if she had gone crazy.
“You aren’t the owner if you aren’t Marissa Sinclair,” the guard told her and asked the previous guard to return to his post.
“Marissa?” she mouthed the forbidden word silently, but the guard made it out.
“Yes, Marissa Sinclair. She is our owner,” Valerie thought someone had thrown ice-cold water over her.
Just one week back it was announced, and Marissa had already appointed new guards. Valerie needed to play this one smartly.
Right now, she couldn’t afford to make them angry anymore. She needed her marriage contract, once it would be in her hands, she could take back everything.
So, what if Rafael sold everything to Marissa in peanuts? Valerie knew how to take it back. She would not only submit her marriage certificate she would also ask her parents and servants to become her witnesses.
“Please let me go inside,” she joined her palms to plead with him, “My stuff is in there and I need it. How will I survive without it?”
The guard must be feeling sorry for her because he took out his phone and talked to someone in hushed tones, “I’ve asked my owner. According to her, you can take your things. Come on, in.”
Thanking her stars silently, she followed the guard. There was another surprise waiting for her. The furniture of the whole house was changed. This wasn’t the same modern furniture. In its place was an antique-themed furniture that looked good with the freshly painted walls.
She straightaway went to her room and oddly it wasn’t changed at all. It had the same furniture, and her things were still there in the cupboard.
Pulling the suitcases from the walk-in closet, she started placing her stuff in it.
“Can you at least give me some privacy? These are all my things. I’m not a thief,” Seeing the guard hovering over her, she snapped at him.

“Apologies,” he shrugged, “But I have got instructions from Mrs. Sinclair, to keep an eye on you.”
Urgh! She groaned internally and started stuffing her things in the bags. Strangely she was reminded of the day when Marissa was packing her bags after Rafael’s eye surgery.
Valerie never gave her privacy.
“You, goody-two-shoes! I know your thirst for revenge,” she started looking for the marriage certificate, but it was nowhere to be found.
“Crap! Where is it?” She looked in every cupboard and every drawer, but her marriage certificate seemed to have vanished.
“Call Martha,” she commanded the guard as if he worked under her, “Call her now. She was the one who used to take care of my things.”
The guard looked at her in confusion, “Martha? No Martha works here.”
Valerie who was leaning over her nightstand straightened, eyed the guard in annoyance, “You are a newly hired man. Go and ask the other maids of the house.”
She again bent to look for her important documents. The guard was still standing there in confusion, checking his tab.
“There is no Martha hired recently, ma’am. Is she from the old staff?”
Valerie again had to stand straight and looked tiredly at the man who was obviously dumb for this guard job.
“What do you mean by old staff and new staff?”
“M- Ma’am… we all were hired by Mrs. Marissa Sinclair…”
Valerie thought she heard him wrong, “Excuse me?”
“Yes, ma’am. A few days back, Mrs. Marissa Sinclair fired the whole staff and hired us,” he raised a shoulder with a faint smile. Valerie thought like someone had slapped her hard.
“If you have it in you, then go and bring the proof. You’re welcome to take back his property!”
“I won’t forget this slap, Val. And I won’t let you forget it either.”
This was what Marissa said after getting the slap from her. This was what she meant when she invited her to take back her property.
Marissa did what she and Nina did to her five years back. She fired the whole staff just like they did when Rafael was getting his surgery. They let go of all the people who knew the reality of Marissa and Rafael’s wedding.
Today Marissa did the same. She terminated all the people who were witnesses to Valerie and Rafael’s relationship.
Valerie and Nina must have played it well. But Marissa played it better. Now here she was, without a marriage certificate and witnesses.
Her innocent sister had taken revenge for what Val did to the couple five years back.
