Chapter 294: 294- No Proof, No Witnesses
“Valerie. Can you stop crying?” her mom was now getting bored of all the drama she was creating, “it’s your mistake. Why would I hire a cleaning lady in this small house?”
“This is your house! How can a lady come here uninvited and make it upstairs?” she retorted angrily, wiping her nose.
The loss of heirlooms had almost given her a heart attack.
“It was just a piece of jewelry, and we care for you more than that. At least you’re safe!” her father tried to calm her.
Valerie knew her parents better. They hated noise and chaos.
“Every piece of jewelry in that pouch was more expensive than you and your daughter Marissa!” she lashed out in anger.
“You are crossing the line, young lady,” her father warned her, standing up from the mattress. They hadn’t even finished their morning coffee when they heard her painful screams from the attic.
When they came up running. They found her sitting on the floor, crying loudly.
Initially, they kept trying to console her and now they were getting bored of it. They were aging and couldn’t afford a drama like this.
“I’m not crossing the line, Dad!” she shouted, “Isn’t Marissa your daughter? She is behind it. Won’t you say anything to her?”
“You two are adults,” her mom spoke, “when you were teenagers, we always took your side. Now what do you expect us to do? Go to her and tell her that Marissa Sinclair you’re grounded!” her mom rolled her eyes and got up to leave when Valerie quit crying and held her mom’s hand.
The shock was written all over her face, “What did you say?”
“What?” her mom replied, pulling slightly away.
Valerie’s heart was sinking, “Just now! What did you say, Mom?” she pressed.
Her mom was now getting exasperated, “Valerie! Leave my hand. What did I say?”
“You said ‘Marissa Sinclair’,” Valerie whispered, Y- You called her… no… you accepted her as a Sinclair!” Valerie started shaking her head in bafflement.
“Whether I accept it or not. The whole world has accepted her as a Sinclair. It doesn’t matter if we trust her or not,” her mom conveyed firmly, leaving no room for further argument.
Valerie was so stunned that she wanted to kill her parents and then herself. The bitch didn’t have to try to convince her parents.
She never tried to contact them ever since she left Sangua city and now suddenly they were calling her Marissa Sinclair.
“I can’t believe it. I took care of you two when I was with Rafael,” Valerie’s voice trembled with emotions as she called out to her parents, “She never even looked back since she left this city. I was the one who was your golden girl!” the frustration was boiling over inside her.
“And that golden girl kept herself busy in spending her husband’s… I mean her boyfriend’s money mercilessly. While you were enjoying your life, you were only showering us with scrapes. We helped you even when you were wrong. Always took your side when Marissa was right. And see? We are here, living in this one-bed house while you kept enjoying all the luxuries in the world. Throwing peanuts at us while you were living the best life. Go and show this attitude to someone else, lady,” Mrs. Aaron was panting by the end of the lecture.
Valerie wasn’t ready for it. They were siding with Marissa. They were accepting that she was the real Mrs. Sinclair.
“Your mom is right,” her head snapped up when she heard her father, “The only time we were properly taken care of was when Marissa stayed with Rafael,” he added sadly, “she used to cook meals for us. Brought a cleaning lady thrice a week. Took us for our weekly or monthly health checkups. How painful it was for her when we told everyone in that hospital room that you were the wife, and she was lying. We ditched her when she needed us the most. So, it’s justified, girl if she has cut off all the ties.”
This was getting insane.
Her parents never favored that ugly daughter.
“Did that cleaning lady…” she hesitated, “I hope she didn’t put any pills in your food. You two are talking nonsense.”
Her parents didn’t try to argue this time and got up, “You want to stay here?” her mom remarked before leaving the room, “we don’t mind it. But you need to do your chores yourself, Val,” she said softly and then they left the room hand in hand.
Valerie wasn’t able to digest any of it.
How was it possible? What went wrong?

And then something flashed into her mind. Nina was equally responsible for all this havoc in both her life and Marissa’s.
That old bitch was the one who planned all this. That lady was the mastermind behind it. And what happened to her?
She was enjoying her life just like before with the bonus of three grandchildren. She wasn’t getting any punishment.
Marissa forgave her.
Nina tried every dirty trick yet now she was living comfortably in the White Palace.
No!
For Valerie, it would always be the White Palace.
She would never call it Marissa Sinclair Palace.
She could hear her parents talking to each other. Her father was telling her mom, how he kept trying to contact Marissa, but she wasn’t receiving his calls, nor she was returning them.
God knew how he got her contact number.
But she couldn’t let Nina go just like that!

She was standing in the jewelry shop, holding five thousand dollars. There was a time when she could throw this much amount anywhere, on anyone. And now?
She smiled bitterly.
After giving some money to her parents, she was planning to go to Kanderton. She needed to talk to Nina.
Her parents would never stand by her side now.
Now there was no proof and no witnesses.
Only Nina was the one who could help her.
But how?
