Chapter 301: 301- Last Time
Valerie was standing against the wall with a crazy heartbeat while the woman sitting on the bunk was laughing crazily.
She had a bob cut. Her sleek black hair brushed against her face as she laughed. Holding her stomach, she was doubling over.
“You are so stupid,” she wheezed between fits of laughter, “Didn’t you see me lying on the upper bunk? How come you didn’t realize that there was someone else in the room?”
Valerie glared at her. She wanted to throttle the neck of the woman who first acted as a ghost and now didn’t seem to stop laughing at her stupidity.
Her laughter was echoing in the small cell, but it was hurting Valerie’s ear drums. At last, when the woman got a grip of it, she gave a once-over to Valerie.
“Hmm. You seem rich!” chuckling to herself, she sat on the lower bunk, “Come on. Lighten up. Trust me. It’s going to get worse.”
Valerie didn’t respond. She stared at the woman with a cold hard look, silently swearing under her breath.
She couldn’t utter anything loudly. What If this woman was a real murderer?
“What is your name?” the woman asked Valerie and took out an electric kettle from under the bunk.
Valerie gave her an odd look, “Is … is this kettle allowed here?”
The woman looked over her shoulder and laughed loudly again, her screeching sound causing that sharp pain in her ears, “Nothing is allowed here. But I’m their regular guest,” She winked and then started making black coffee.
It seemed like she had set a kitchenette under the bunk.
“H-how are you allowed… I mean… won’t they put charges against you?”
The woman shrugged and kept doing her job. There were paper cups. A water bottle. Coffee jar.
“Here, take this!” she offered a cup to Valerie who seemed hesitant to accept it, “You might need it, classy Missy. Take it. It might calm your nerves a little.”
Exhaling a long breath, Valerie accepted the cup, “Thanks.”
“By the way what’s your name?” she asked the question again.
“Valerie!” she wanted to say Sinclair but then someone clenched her heart.
Not anymore.
“Hmm. Valerie! You seem to be in pain,” Valerie couldn’t say anything. She kept trying to control her quivering lips. The woman kept observing her quietly taking sips from her cup.
“Seems like a lot of pain,” she muttered and grabbed the empty cup from her hand, “Would you like a cigarette?”
Valerie’s eyes widened in surprise, “H-how the hell…”
The woman raised her hand waving it in her face, “Oh. I’ve got contacts… connections…”
She knocked on the metal door from inside and the same police officer who brought Valerie to the cell was standing outside.
“I need a cigarette,” the woman told him.
“Ah, Sarah! You’ve been quite demanding lately,” he remarked lightly and then lit a cigarette before sliding it through the small window.
“Yeah. And in return I’ll fulfill your night demands,” she held his finger and licked it. Valerie immediately diverted her focus.
Now she knew why this woman was getting favors.

She quickly shook her head when the woman offered her the cigarette. The woman shrugged carelessly and went back to the bunk.
“So, you didn’t answer my question, why are you here?” she asked blowing the smoke from her nostrils.
“I … I’m innocent…” the woman didn’t let Valerie finish and laughed loudly.
“Yeah. I’m innocent too. Now stop making a fool of yourself, Valerie. Tell me. Why are you here?”
Valerie gulped her saliva before answering, “I… I… didn’t kill them… I was just angry…” She started wiping the tears off her face, “I don’t know why they did that. Someone killed them when I left. I … I was angry… and I won’t lie… I wanted to kill them … b…but I… I didn’t…”
Valerie buried her face in her hands and started crying.

“What happened?” Sarah asked her when she came back to the cell. It had been two days since she was here, and they didn’t let her call.
“They just informed me that … my father couldn’t make it,” Valerie said with an expressionless face.
Maybe because she had been crying for the last two days.
“Oh,” Sarah made her sit and offered her a glass of water.
“They are still not letting me call,” Sarah patted her shoulder and ducked under the bunk to search for something.
Valerie frowned and was shocked when she saw her taking out a small old-fashioned phone from there.
“Sarah!” she exclaimed, “What else is there under this bunk” She almost forgot that she was upset.
“Make a call, Valerie. Talk to this person. Though I hardly believe, he’ll help you. Once you’re in the prison, people hardly support you.”
With a nod, Val got hold of the phone and dialed Ethan’s number. She decided to ignore Sarah’s prediction. Ethan wasn’t like that
“Who are you calling to? Your boyfriend?” Sarah asked suspiciously, raising a brow.
“F…friend. A lawyer friend!” she told her while waiting for the call to be received.
“Wow!” Sarah murmured before walking away. There was not much to do here anyway.
Valerie waited and then gripped her phone tightly when someone received the call, “Hello?”
“Ethan!” she was so happy, she wanted to cry, “Thank God, you took my call.”
“Why have you called me, Valerie?” he asked in a no-nonsense tone, which surprised Valerie. He was usually a very friendly person but right now he sounded withdrawn.
“E-Ethan… You must have watched the news of…”
“Yes, I have,” he sounded distant.
“Ethan. I … I need help. Th-there is no one… Please help me…” her words spilled out in desperation.
There was silence on the other side and for a minute Valerie thought he had disconnected the call.
“Ethan…?
“Ok. Don’t worry. I’ll try to do something,” Valerie chuckled. She felt hope. Giving a proud grin to Sarah, she laughed.
“He is ready to help me!” she announced to her and reached out to return her phone. Sarah smirked and then pushed back her hand that was holding the phone.
“Keep it with you, babe. This was the last time this man received your call.”
