Chapter 302: 302- Bailed
(One month later)
It had been one month since Marissa went to Sangua City to see her mom. She was connected to the kids through video calls.
Right now, Nina was sitting on the carpet, surrounded by her grandkids. She was telling them about their father’s childhood and the kids were listening to her with interest.
Nina enjoyed their company a lot. Their giggles used to brighten up her day.
“Did Daddy, climb that tree all by himself?” Ariel asked her with wide eyes.
Nina nodded and ruffed her hair, “Oh, yes. And guess what? He got stuck and didn’t come down. Until our butler rescued him.”
More giggles erupted and Abigail shook Nina’s arm, “Granny. Tell us more about Daddy.”
Before Nina could answer, the soft creak of the living room door interrupted their moment. Nina turned her head, narrowing her eyes slightly, and froze as she saw Marissa pushing a wheelchair through the doorway.
“Get aside. Let me do it!” Dean spoke behind her, but she didn’t listen and came inside behind the chair.
“Urgh! You’re stubborn,” Dean groaned.
Sitting in the chair was a frail, elderly woman with pale skin and hollowed cheeks. A cannula was inserted near her wrist.
Nina’s breath caught in her throat, and in disbelief, a whisper escaped her lips, “Mrs. Vicky Aaron?”
Marissa gave her a subtle nod and lowered herself to her knees. Once her kids noticed their mom, they almost abandoned Nina and ran over for hugs.
“Mommy!” the sweet chatters filled the room.
“My sweethearts!” she kissed each one of them while hugging, “I missed you all.”
Kids were now looking at the wheelchair woman in curiosity, Marissa followed their gaze and smiled, “She is your grandma. The maternal one.”
She placed a gentle hand on Abigail’s head, “My mommy! From today, she will live here, with us.”
The children looked at Marissa and then at the woman.
Strange! After their father’s death, their unknown relatives had started pouring back into their lives.

It had been one month since Valerie was brought here in this cell. Sarah was right when she said Ethan would never return her calls.
He might have blocked her number because after that she tried to call him again. His phone kept ringing, but he didn’t receive it.
Sarah got free on bail one week back. Being a nice lady, she left her phone under the bunk and asked Valerie to place it back safely.
“I come here often,” she had told her while laughing at something, “this police station is my permanent place.”
No one could come to her aid. And now she was sure no lawyer would get involved in her case.
She was informed that now her case which was handled by the local authorities, would be taken over by the state police. She had already lost her father, and her mom was also not in good condition.
She was so lost in her thoughts that she almost jerked when the phone started ringing. Looking around in panic she received the call, “Yes?”
“Hey. Has your lawyer friend contacted you?” the familiar female voice asked Valerie.
“Sarah!”

“Yeah. It’s me. The ghost! Remember?” Valerie smiled. The good thing was she had quit crying. Thanks to Sarah who taught her many things. Including the best tricks to live here.
“Listen, Val. I am at Sangua city?”
“You are?” Valerie’s grip tightened around the phone, “Have you met my mom.”
“No. She just got discharged. Your sister took her home,” she informed her.
Marissa took Mom home? Wasn’t she mad at her? My parents lied and cheated and manipulated…
“Stop thinking too much!” Sarah snapped on the other side, “Go and have some coffee.”
Bless you, Sarah.
She left those basic things under that bunk to get utilized. Without taking or demanding any payment.
That meant Valerie didn’t have to PAY the policeman his due share in the form of se*x.
“Hey, listen!” Sarah squealed, “Don’t worry about a lawyer. My boyfriend has contacts. Let me look into it.”
“Sarah! Why are you doing all this for me?” she asked the million-dollar question.
“Now don’t be a fool. After all, what are friends for, baby!”
Friends?
One month back, Valerie hadn’t even imagined that she could be friends with a habitual criminal. And she was totally dependent on this woman for her in-cell and out-cell survival.
When she was done with the call, the bottom door of the steel door opened, and a food plate was pushed inside as if she were a pet.
Sarah had told her that they were behind this steel door because they had murder charges. The only difference between Valerie and Sarah was that Valerie was innocent.
Yet Sarah had done it three times and her boyfriend managed to take her out all these times.
Ethan’s image flashed into her mind. He could have approached her if he had a little bit of decency. He must know, she could be anything but a murderer.
There was a sudden knock at the door and a clanking sound. Valerie quickly hid the phone in her clothes. Thankfully it was in vibration mode.
“I…I am not done eating…” he didn’t let her finish.
“Stand up and follow me,” this policeman wasn’t that usual one.
“W-why?” he didn’t respond to her answer. Were they transferring her somewhere?
She was taken inside a room where she was handed over her purse and phone.
“What is going on?” she asked the lady inspector on duty.
“You’ve been bailed!” she informed her with a poker face.
Bailed?
Valerie felt her heart racing.
Who could it be? Ethan? Sarah?
But she talked to Sarah, just a few minutes back. She couldn’t arrange a lawyer this early. Or what if Ethan had realized his mistake and come to her rescue?
Oh! Bless you, Ethan!
She was taken to the main office where a woman was sitting in front of the chief police officer. A lawyer was sitting beside her.
The chief signed some papers and then slid the file ahead.
“Valerie Aaron. You’ve been bailed. Be very careful and don’t try to leave the city without letting us know. You are still under our watch.”
The woman sitting in front got up and turned around to face Valerie. Valerie was stunned for a moment.
N-No… this couldn’t be true!
“Marissa? What are you doing here?”
