Chapter 310: 310- He Cared For Talia
Koa was making faces while listening to the lecture Talia was giving him, “You must be careful around my sister,” she warned the boy who was the same age as Mala.
“Tom did you a favor and spared you, next time you misbehave with my sister, I’ll kill you, Koa!” she even slapped a punch on his chest.
Koa started rubbing that part with a frown.
“I wasn’t misbehaving. I was trying to put sense in her,”
“By holding her roughly?” she rolled her eyes, “Then Tom did a good job of putting some sense into you. Right?”
“He tried to insult me,” Koa complained with a pout, yet Talia wasn’t buying it. She loved her sister a lot and couldn’t bear anyone abusing her or mishandling her.
“This is the last time I’m warning you, Koa. You want respect? Learn to pay it first! Earn it,” she walked away after giving him her piece of mind.
Tonight, she was planning to make strawberry sauce with some vanilla ice cream. If Tom liked it, then she wanted to make it for him.
Lately, he had been busy with his job. The automobile shop that helped him in freeing those bicycles, was now taking wrong advantage of him. He used to leave home early morning and return after eight in the evening.
Her father told them that he needed to do the job for at least one year and Talia wasn’t liking it. It also warmed her heart, how he acknowledged her father’s efforts and now wanted to return the favor.
Her desire to spend the night with him was getting wild. The most heartbreaking thing was, he never seemed interested in her.
No one ever saw him talking or communicating with any female in the village.
After reaching home, she started cutting strawberries for the sauce.
“Strawberry sauce?” Mala spoke when she joined her in the kitchen corner. She scooped out some flour and started kneading it.
“I get it! He does like the sauce, but he never asked you to make it daily for him,” Mala tried to tease her with a playful smile, but Talia didn’t take offense.
Every time after dinner he used to wipe the bowl hungrily and thank her with that se*xy grin.
At least this sauce was a perfect excuse to engage with him in any talk.
“Talia!” Mala called her and chuckled when saw her blinking several times, “he is much older than you.”
“N…No… I don’t think so…” She placed a pan on the stove and tossed the strawberries on it.
“He treats us like kids… like small girls. You know it. Don’t get your hopes high, T. I don’t want you to get hurt,” She tried to warn her elder sister.
Talia wasn’t ready for this talk, she silently added sugar in the pan and started stirring it vigorously.
“T!” Mala held her elbow gently, “Don’t hurt yourself like this.”
Talia dropped the spatula in the pan and turned to her.
“I think… I think… I’m falling for him…” she tried to control her teary voice.
“Oh, God! No, Talia!” Mala got worried for her sister. She was a pure-hearted girl who hadn’t seen the world, “Don’t do this to yourself.”
They both straightened up when the door slammed open, and Tom entered. He halted for a second when saw them standing too close to each other with serious faces.
“I’m sorry,” he murmured. Poor him!
It wasn’t his mistake if they were living in a one-room house that didn’t have any privacy.
“It’s ok,” Mala chirped with a smile,” Go and change and we will be done with the dinner.”

Instead of answering her, he raised his face towards the ceiling, his nostrils flared, “Is something burning?”
Talia gasped and turned to look at the sauce. The sugar had burned the pan, and its base had turned black.
“Shit!” she muttered, grabbing the pan with a cloth and tossing it into the sink.
Frustration bubbled up inside her, and her hands trembled.
This was the sauce she was perfect at, and see? She couldn’t even do it right!
Tears welled up in her eyes, stinging with the disappointment she was trying hard to push down.
Her throat tightened as she stood near the sink. Without another word, she stormed out of the kitchen and the house, leaving the clatter of the pan that was still ringing in silence.
Tom frowned, his gaze followed her outside, “What’s the matter?”
Mala shrugged. What could she tell him?
My sister is in love with you?
“She burned the strawberry sauce,” she pointed towards the sink.
“OK. But it was strawberry sauce. Not a family heirloom,” he remarked and then went to the bathroom.
Mala sighed and removed the cheesecloth from the steel bowl to check the kneaded dough in it.
Talia needed to keep her emotions in control. Tom shouldn’t know about her feelings otherwise he might decide to leave their house.

Tom sat on the floor to have dinner, but his eyes wandered around the room, “Where is Talia?”
Mala picked up her plate and gestured for him to do the same, “She might have her dinner late,” her tone was light, but Tom could suspect tension.
“Are you enjoying your job, boy?” John asked him while picking up the piece of freshly baked bread.
Tom nodded with a smile, “Yeah. Kind of. Engines are fun,” John nodded and asked him to start eating.
“You must wake up early for your job. Start eating your dinner,” but Tom shook his head. The girl was upset in the evening, and he didn’t know why she didn’t return.
“Father is right,” Mala looked at him, a bit impatient, “The food will get cold.”
Tom shrugged, “I just want to wait for Talia.”
After a moment of silence, he sighed and stood up, “I’ll go find her,” he took his shirt off the hook and started putting it on over his vest, “she might have lost track of time.”
Mala studied him intently.
It seemed he genuinely cared for Talia! Yay!
