Chapter 311: 311- Alex
Yes, she was upset.
No, the reason wasn’t strawberry sauce.
Then what it might be? Because she had fallen for him hard or because she had started feeling horny just by thinking of him?
The spot where she was sitting had a branch swinging right near her face, causing a tingling sensation.
“Everyone thinks I’m beautiful…” she told the branch with a smirk, “Except him.”
Holding it she broke a twig and then left it dangling in the air.
Tourists used to enjoy their time here but were instructed to stay indoors after the evening. However, the villagers were accustomed to snakes and other reptiles.
It was getting darker, but she wasn’t scared. She grew up here. This green village in the middle of the forest was her home.
Right now, her soul needed this darkness, to envelope her within. She wanted to hide herself from the world.
“Talia?” her heartbeat quickened when she heard the familiar voice.
Tom? Was he here?
She got up quickly and saw him approaching her.
“What brings you here?” she asked him, attempting to sound happy.
He did detect the forced cheerfulness in her voice, “I was looking for you. Let’s go home for dinner.”
“Dinner?” she repeated as if it was an alien word, “I’m not hungry.”
“Why not?” he asked and settled himself beside her on the rocky ground, “What’s troubling you?”
He asked her without sparing her a glance, “Strawberry sauce can’t have such a strong effect on one’s mood.”
Talia couldn’t stop the smile tugging her lips, “Why not?” she started pulling the leaves of the twig, “It certainly improves your mood.”
“Yeah. It does,” he agreed right away without any hesitation.
They sat in silence for some time unless she tried to break it with her words, “I was here…”
At the same time, he also uttered something, “Talia you…”
They both laughed at that.
“What were you saying?” she asked him, but he shook his head.
“No. You tell me. Why are you upset? Is it because of me?”
She spread her lips, forcing a smile again, “Yes and No,” she shrugged, “I’m just confused.”
He chose not to remark but kept sitting there, “You know?” she looked in his direction, “You should go back. You have an early morning start.”
“Don’t worry about that,” he took the twig from her hands, “What’s your future goal?” he asked her as if they were old friends and she always confided in him.
She was momentarily taken aback by his directness, “Sorry?”
“The guy is asking a simple question,” he raised his shoulders, “Your future goals? What are they? Or is it just to marry someone and pop out his kids?”

Several lines appeared on her forehead. Now he was being judgmental, “Do you have a problem with that?”
Tom chuckled when he felt her anger, “No. I’m not against marriage and childbirth. But I think women are someone more than that. They should be empowered before getting into a commitment.”
Talia couldn’t believe they were talking about this.
“What to do if you are very much in love?” she tried to look into his eyes, but he didn’t even meet her gaze.
“You need to be something before being in love, Talia.”
“What if I want to be something with him? With him by my side?” she tried explaining to him, but he started shaking his head.
“I don’t know who I am…” he at last looked into her eyes making her breath hitch in her chest, “But I can’t start a relationship, Talia.”
Talia’s eyes were fixed on his Adam’s apple as it moved when he swallowed his saliva.
“I … I never talked to anyone about it… but… I think I am … married,” he said hesitantly, “I think I have kids…” Talia could feel her heart sinking.
“What are you saying?” she didn’t want him to speak. He was his first love, but he was causing her, her first heartbreak.
“I … I think I have a daughter, Talia… sometimes there is this little girl in my dreams whose face isn’t visible, and she calls me…” he turned his face towards her and Talia gasped when saw his wet cheeks, “she calls me daddy,” his voice dropped to a whisper.
“Y-You are crying,” she stated ignoring her tears, and he chuckled.
“Yes, I am. And I can see your tears too, Talia. I don’t know who I am. Please stop wasting your time for a man who must be old enough to be your father…”
“Oh, come on,” Talia rolled her eyes, wiping her face, but he wasn’t joking.
“Ok. Then maybe your uncle,” folding his legs, he rested his chin on his knee, “The world is always not that kind… Go and conquer it, Talia…”
What kind of a man was he? He wasn’t accepting her love. He wasn’t interested in spending time with her.
Wasn’t she the same girl, who was pursued by all the boys in the village?
His wife or girlfriend, or whoever she was. She was damn lucky.
Talia felt as if someone had clenched her heart, “Our teacher also told us that,” she told him with a sad smile and wiped her cheeks with the back of her hand, “He also died in the flood. Mister Alec was a free soul. A very good teacher, indeed. He was our favorite.”
She found him engrossed in some thought and then slowly he turned his head to look at her, “W-What did you say? Alex?”
“No,” she chuckled, “Alec.”
He held his temples and closed his eyes, groaning in frustration, “Alex… Who was Alex?”
“Alex?” Talia looked at him in confusion, “There is no Alex here,” and then something dawned on her.
“Oh, God! Y-You remember this name? Alex?”
“Yeah. Alex. Alexander…” he trailed off when felt this sharp headache.
Talia clasped her hands in excitement, “Y-You are Alex. Alexander. This is your name. I can’t believe it!”
Talia forgot her heartache. She needed to tell this to her father.
