Chapter 315: 315- Akari
“Right now, her condition is stable. Take her home and we can plan her surgery after one week,” dread washed over Marissa when the doctor told her about the surgery.
A heavy weight settled on her chest.
How she was relieved last year that Rafael would be beside her, during Abi’s surgery and now once more he had left her alone.
Liar!
She called him in his heart and wanted to say more when felt a hand on her shoulder.
She whirled around and found Dean behind her. He was the only one who took the call last night and came to her in a flash.
While Nina and Sophie couldn’t receive her calls.
Initially, she was angry at them but then she told herself to cut them some slack. They were already helping her more than their capacity.
She couldn’t take them for granted.
“I’m sorry for spoiling your weekend!” she mumbled, and he cupped her cheek.
“Don’t be a fool. Don’t forget that Abigail loves me more than you,” She chuckled at that. He was trying to cheer her up.
But she felt guilty. Akari was looking forward to spending some quality time with him and he came here to be with her.
She turned when heard the footsteps approaching her. Joseph and Sophia were walking towards her. The guilt on Sophie’s face was evident.
“I’m… I’m so sorry… Marissa,” Sophie started, her voice soft, “I should have been here sooner.”
Marissa offered her a small smile, “It’s fine, Sophie. She is good. But… the surgery… it’s time. They have scheduled it after a week.”
She didn’t want to make Sophie feel worse.
“No matter if he isn’t there in your life,” Sophie held her arm, “I’ll be here with you during the surgery,” She assured her friend and then squeezed her before stepping back.
“She is right,” Joseph also came forward with regret evident on his face, “We both will be here throughout the surgery.”
Marissa was busy talking to Joseph, but Sophie’s gaze lingered on something for a moment. Joseph followed her gaze and found Dean and Marissa holding hands.
Marissa and Dean had again gotten busy with another doctor who was providing details about the necessary arrangements, pre-surgery. He was handing over the diet chart, insisting that Marissa make Abi follow it.
“Don’t worry. She is our little warrior,” Dean said, and Sophie again gave that meaningful glance to Joseph.
Joseph couldn’t stop rolling his eyes. His fiancée was a hopeless romantic and had been saying for ages that Dean was head over heels for Marissa.
Initially, Joseph wasn’t convinced but now he could see the chemistry. The friendship and understanding they shared.
They seemed to be perfect for each other.

“You should have told me, Georgie,” Marissa told him softly, fixing his black hair. He was standing there innocently with a guilt-stricken face, “You know she is not allowed to jump, sweetheart. We could have lost her,”
The child’s eyes shot up to her face, “Just like I lost my mom?” his voice trembled, and Marissa wanted to hug him tight. But he was a very reserved boy who wasn’t fond of much affection.
“If we will be careful then we won’t lose anyone, Georgie,” as an adult she couldn’t recover from the trauma of losing Rafael.
How could she expect him to forget his mom?

“I’m sorry, Mrs. Sinclair. I’ll be more careful about her,” Marissa nodded and kissed his forehead. She couldn’t hold it back because he was so adorable.
When she was about to walk away, Georgie stopped her, “Mrs. Sinclair?”
“Hmm?” Marissa turned and eyed him questioningly with a smile.
“Can you find my father?” there was pleading in his eyes, “I want to meet him.”
Marissa wasn’t ready for this request, “Sure, Georgie! I’ll try to locate him after Abi’s surgery. Will that be ok?”
The child nodded with a smile.

After feeding bone broth to Abi, Marisa came out of her room and stretched. She needed to be quite strict about her diet for the sake of upcoming surgery.
She handed over the tray to a maid and stopped in her tracks when saw Akari standing there.
“Akari. What a pleasant surprise! Come,” she held Akari’s hand to guide her to the couch, but Akari didn’t budge from her position.
Marissa frowned and twisted her neck to look back at her face, “What is it? Come over, Akari,” she said gently and then she looked carefully at her swollen face.
“You’ve been crying, Akari?”
Akari chewed her upper lip and then chuckled, “Gosh, Marissa. You have been so good to me and now it’s more difficult to fight you when your child is sick. I … I think… I should leave.”
Marissa shook her head in confusion, “What happened? Tell me!” She didn’t leave Akari’s hand.
“Nothing… it’s just that… I think I know what he saw in you. You are an incredible woman, Marissa.”
Marissa had a nagging feeling that something was off, “Where is Dean?” she held Akari’s shoulders, “Is he alright?”
Akari shook her head, and the tears slipped down her cheeks, “I don’t think, he is good. Y-you should … talk to him… I think he needs you as much as you need him.”
Nothing was making sense to Marissa.
Why was Akari…
“Oh,” Marissa’s mouth opened to form a small o.
Pieces started coming together for her, “I’m sorry. Dean was with you when I called him. Wasn’t he? I’m so sorry Akari. It was just that… I didn’t know who to call…”
Akari began shaking her head and wiped her face, “No, silly. You both deserve each other. You both are wonderful people,” She patted Marissa’s arm, and Marissa was taken aback by the statement.
Akari didn’t give her much chance to think, “I’m leaving tomorrow for my hometown. I hope you stay happy with your family. All the best for Abigail. Tell her she is a champion.”
Marissa wanted to ask her why she was leaving. But Akari didn’t offer any explanation and left, leaving behind a shocked Marissa.
