Chapter 328: 328- You Were Drunk
Valerie lay on the bed, her hair sprawled on the pillow. Her bedroom looked like a tornado had passed through it.
On the bedside table, her phone sat face down, surrounded by tissues, some balled up, others crumpled and tossed on the floor.
The curtains were held open, letting in just enough light to highlight the chaos. The clothes on the floor, the clutter on her dresser, the trail of shoes kicked off without a second thought.
Laying still, her arm was hanging off the bed, her fingers were brushing the floor, barely moving as if the energy was drained off them.
“Valerie! Val!” she didn’t move when she heard Mom calling her. The door opened with a thud, and she made her way inside, “Look at … Oh, my God! What is this?”
The poor woman was taken aback by the scene. Her gaze ran on the blanket that was bunched up at the end, twisted and tangled, with one corner trailing onto the floor.
“What is this,” she whispered more to herself, “Are you alright?”
She got a little scared when Val didn’t move, “V-Val… are you dead?” she asked her in a shaky voice.
Val shook her head a little, “You should leave, Mom.”
The older woman gulped hard. Her husband wasn’t home. Marissa was in school. She was here to ask her daughter about those four thousand dollars she had taken from her.
This was a big amount, and she wanted to ask Valerie when she would return it.
“Mom,” Valerie said softly, “I know why you are here. Right now, you need to go.”
Her mother again looked around with a worried look on her face.
What had gotten into Valerie? She never behaved like this her entire life.
“Mom. Close the door after you leave. If Rafael arrives, just send him in. And…” Valerie at last turned her face, “No need to accompany him. Understand?”
Her mom could not utter a single word. The room felt more like a movie scene where the heroin was about to end her life.
“I was here to…”
“I know Mom, why you were here. Don’t worry. You’ll get back your four thousand dollars with a hundred percent interest. I promise,” Valerie said with a smirk, “I just need to ace in my acting. Do as you are told. Now go, mom.”
Mrs. Aaron left the room in confusion. She hoped Valerie was fine. She was their golden child, and both her parents had high hopes for her.
When the door closed behind her, Valerie smiled again. She needed to do this final act to bring him closer to her.
This was the only way. Who said beautiful girls didn’t have brains? They just like using it at the right time.
She raised her head when her phone started ringing. It was Rhea from the typing company where Val had told Rafael, she worked.
“Yes, Rhea?” She asked the girl.
“Your boy came looking for you. I told him you have sent the resignation and won’t come back to work. Just like you asked me to do.”
Val wanted to pat the girl’s head, “You did?”
“Yes. Thank you for those two thousand dollars. It will make things easy for me,” Valerie wanted to laugh but the big smile wiped from her mouth when she heard the girl’s next words, “The boy was very hot. Who was he?”
Val thought for a moment and then smirked again, “He was my fiancé. We’re about to get married.”
Her next call came from the guy who worked as a peon in the acting school, “Mr. Rafael came today, Ms. Aaron.”
“Ok?” Valerie’s grip tightened on the phone, “And?” she asked while chewing her lower lip.

“I told him that you have sent a long leave application. Thank you for giving me those two thousand dollars, ma’am.”
Val wanted to dance in excitement. Everything was happening just as she had planned. If she had guessed it right, Rafael was likely on his way here now.
Tossing away her phone aside, she closed her eyes and again started crying. She hated using props for her acting classes and glycerin was one of them.
It wasn’t healthy to use a chemical to bring tears to her eyes. She wanted her face to look naturally puffy when Rafael arrived.
After a few minutes, she sensed a little chaos downstairs. Maybe Rafael was here. She was in a perfect position, waiting for him. There was just one problem now. She felt the need to pee but it was too late.
Rafael was here and she didn’t want to destroy the effect.
“Yeah. I don’t know,” she heard her mom’s voice and the footsteps approaching her room, “She hadn’t left her room since morning. You go ahead,”
The door to her room opened and someone came inside, “What the hell!”
The footsteps grew closer until they stopped once they reached her, “Valerie,” she felt him crouching down, “Are you ok? Goodness!”
She could detect fear in his voice. Fear of death? Suicide?
“Sweetheart!” she felt his hands on her shoulders trying to straighten her, but the word sweetheart made her heart jump in her chest.
“Look at you, Valerie,” he remarked softly and made her sit on the bed, avoiding eye contact.
She was just sitting there like a dummy; her tears were flowing down her face. His eyes were wandering around, taking in the condition of the room.
“Valerie!” he was running his hands repeatedly through his hair. Valerie stole a glance at him and was stunned by his appearance. He had grown a light beard, and the s*ex appeal was off the charts.
She was lucky to have him…
No!
She was lucky that soon, he would be hers.
“Look! I don’t know how we ended up here. And how… how we…” he couldn’t finish it.
Valerie at last turned her face to look at him and opened her mouth to say the words, “You were so drunk!” she uttered, “I tried stopping you…” she started crying.
