Chapter 330: 330- Uninvited Baggage of Nina
Valerie could see how Rafael was still attracted to Marissa. His eyes kept following her, no matter where she moved.
He didn’t give any response when Valerie tried to make a small talk with him. He got up and stretched lazily, “All those who don’t live here,” he announced looking at the people’s faces, “You all should go back to your place… if you have any.”
His eyes then went back to Marissa who was still deciding if she should go to her bedroom or not.
“I would love to take some rest with my wife,” he said with that drool on his face and amusingly, Sophie was the only one who found the situation quite hilarious.
Her video game buddy had turned into a macho man and was now showing interest in being alone with his wife.
Rafael started clapping, “Come on, everyone, back to your homes.”
“We will leave,” Dean challenged him, “If Marissa will ask us, we will.”
He gave a questioning look to Marissa as he could sense uneasiness on her face.
“Isn’t it my home?” Rafael asked him, “And who are you? Her boyfriend?”
“Good God!” Marissa rolled her eyes.
Rafael was getting bizarrely possessive about her. And now she thought she needed to handle him herself.
“You need to accompany Joseph and Dean to the police station,” she told her husband, “They need to know that you are alive. Valerie was constantly under their watch,” she explained to Rafael but now he was looking restlessly around.
“Where are my kids?” he asked Marissa.
Marissa sighed and closed her eyes, “They are at Sophie’s place. Her grandfather is with them.”
Rafael’s mouth opened in a silent ‘oh’.
“They should be here with their parents,” he held Marissa’s shoulders, “Ask them to arrive here.”
This time Marissa didn’t flinch at his touch, “Our kids need some time, Rafael. Abigail’s heart surgery is scheduled for next week. You’re right on time,” Rafael saw the warmth in those black eyes, for the first time since he returned, “Abigail will be so happy to have you around.”
Her voice had turned teary by the end of it when suddenly everyone swiveled to face Valerie as she spoke.
“I’ve sent a message to Nina. I hope she reads it and responds,” she placed her phone in her hip pocket, “Thanks for returning, dude.” She waved at Rafael.
For a minute, she felt her heart being clenched by an iron fist. He was treating her as a stranger as if they had nothing in the past.
I guess, it’s finally time to move forward. She thought with a pang of bitterness, I wish Nina suffers for dragging me into the mess.
“Mar!” she called her sister, “Can I meet, mom?”
Marissa nodded and sent a nurse along with her. Inexplicably, she could sense that it was a goodbye from Valerie.
It was rare to see Valerie accepting her defeat without causing any trouble.
Marissa’s eyes went to the man who was her first love and found him looking back at her. After the eye contact, he gave her a cocky grin and gestured towards the stairs, “Is our bedroom upstairs?”
This time Marissa had to hold back her laughter. All he seemed interested in, was getting alone with her.

“Who is this?” Bajj asked Nina when she checked her phone with a frown. She was carrying a glass of drink in her hand while swaying her hips slowly with the music.
Nina shook her head after reading Valerie’s message.

Congratulations. Your son is back!
What did it mean? Valerie should be ashamed to mock Nina like this.
As a mom, she was already in pain and Valerie was taking it as a joke?
She was startled when two arms snaked around her waist, “Come in, lady. You were dancing so well. What got into you?”
Valerie has gotten under my skin!
“Nothing,” Nina tried to smile, “Ever since I lost my son, I zone out a lot.”
The man had a sorrowful expression on his face. But Nina didn’t want sympathy. She wanted her son back.
“This is the second time I lost him,” she confided to the man while dancing.
“Oh? He had died before too?” he seemed happy with such a cheap remark he made.
Nina shook her head with a heavy heart, “No. He was kidnapped.”
“Oh. That must be so hard for you. You people had enemies?” he asked Nina and Nina had to place her glass down.
She wasn’t interested in her drink anymore.
My husband was my biggest enemy. She thought to herself.
“A maid used to work at our place. She tried snatching him from me. I had to search for him… for weeks until I got to him and brought him back.”
“My, my,” he turned down his lips and brushed his hand on her ass, “You are one hell of a strong woman,”
“Yes, I know.” Nina tried wiping her face, “I’ve been struggling to keep him happy since childhood, but you know what?” she asked after a sob escaped her lips, “He was never happy. I worked on our relationship. Gave him whatever he desired and in return, I asked for nothing but an heir.”
The man who had stopped dancing was now annoyed for inviting the old woman to his party. He had thought that she was fun to be around but no.
She was the same as the other older women. A crybaby indeed.
Nina handed him, her empty glass and snapped her fingers, “You know? He did fulfill my wish. He was a good son, and he provided me with…” she paused and started counting something in her tipsy state. She raised one finger but with a little confusion, she then raised two fingers…
She then scrunched her nose and tilted her head, then suddenly her face lit up when she remembered and she raised three fingers, “Three!” she shouted in excitement, “he gave me three heirs. And they are so adorable.”
The man was trying to suppress the yawn to show her that he was taking interest when in actuality he had lost it.
He wanted older women for enjoyment. Not to claim their uninvited baggage.
