Chapter 347: 347- Awake?

Nina joined a gym and started giving more attention to herself. Gabriel wasn’t worth her time and love.

She needed to come out of this self-pity, so she started going shopping and bought heaps of branded dresses, bags, shades, and sandals

Then it was Jewelry with diamonds and stones and her frequent visits to salons.

She had a separate credit card for herself and could spend as much as she wanted. Her visits to the club had increased, and she had started getting more praise there.

Now she used to face Naila without any guilt. Gabriel was still trying to approach her, but she had put the man on hold.

What does he think of himself? I don’t have self-respect. Is he taking me as a who*re or what?

This time her anger made her do things differently.

“Did you slap Gabriel at the party?” they were having a quiet dinner at home when Miles shot the unexpected question causing her to go still.

“Sorry?” she tried to smile and looked at her husband’s face which was devoid of any emotion. He was eating his dinner mechanically.

Miles had asked her a sensitive question in front of her husband, and he was busy eating as if he wouldn’t get the chance to eat again.

“The question is quite clear, young lady,” Miles’s voice echoed in the dining hall, “Why did you slap him?”

“I didn’t!” Nina shrugged defiantly. Why should she accept something that didn’t have any proof or witness?

Miles seemed annoyed by her stubbornness, “Don’t try my patience, Nina. And stop looking at your husband!” Miles hit his fist on the table causing the cutlery to rattle.

Nina jumped in fright and stopped eating. She had never seen Miles in so much anger. Though it was evident that he never liked her, he was always polite to her.

Her husband finished his food and then got up after taking a loud burp, “Good night, everyone!”

Nina couldn’t believe it. Was he the same man who was supposed to take a stand for her?

He had walked out, leaving her there to deal with his old father.

“What’s your problem?” she also got to her feet, “I don’t even know what you are…”

Before she could say anything, Miles slid the file towards her that had pictures of her standing close to Gabriel.

“Fine!” she threw her hands up in the air. She had gotten busted, “Yes, I slapped him. He had started abusing me for no reason… just because… because I said no to his advances, and slapped him, I’m bad?”

She had to defend herself. She couldn’t afford to be kicked out of this house.

“Advances?” Miles took off his glasses and started laughing while squeezing his eyes, “Nina. Let me remind you. You are the daughter-in-law of Sinclair’s family and if there is a scandal that involves you then you are finished.”

“What do you mean by finished?” she narrowed her eyes. How could Miles talk to her like that when she was the lawfully wedded wife of his son? She was not a random woman who was there for a small visit.

“What I mean is…” he got up and put on his glasses, “Next time anyone brings complaints against you, I’ll make sure, Shane kicks you out.”

This was humiliation and she couldn’t tolerate it.

“No one can kick me out of this house, Miles,” she raised her chin confidently, “I’ve got a position in this house, in this family. No one can challenge it,” she finished with a smile, “Not even you.”

“Oh, sweetheart,” he placed his palms on the table and leaned ahead, “believe me, you don’t hold any position in our house without a baby.”

Nina’s smile vanished off her face. Miles grinned and nodded at her, “Yeah. You heard that right. What do you think? Naila is a fool to birth a baby every year. You are useless for our family if you don’t give us a child.”

He walked out, leaving her there in shock while Nina wanted to gag. The idea of going near Shane was nauseating.

It was past two o clock after midnight and Nina was still awake. Shane was sleeping peacefully beside her. In the first year of their marriage, he had been an active lover but ever since she started rejecting his touch, he distanced himself from her.

Her hand raised to place it on his shoulder. She wanted to wake him up and check if he would still make love to her. But then her hand dropped on the mattress.

“No. Please,” she pleaded to herself.

A small buzzing sound from her phone made her turn her head to the nightstand. She picked it up and found a text from Gabriel.

“Awake?”

Nina clicked her tongue inside her mouth and placed the phone under her pillow.

“Jerk!” she muttered under her breath.

Another message flashed on her phone screen, “I need to talk to you. Come out of your bedroom so that we can talk.”

You are an overconfident prick! She thought and was about to switch off her phone when another message popped up,

“Either talk to me or I’m coming to your home at this hour. How will you explain my presence to your servants anddd… to your dear husband?”

The threat worked.

Just this evening, Miles had warned her to avoid any scandal and here Gabriel was adamant about tarnishing her reputation.

Picking up her phone she turned and found Shane fast asleep. She tiptoed outside her bedroom and made a call.

“I knew you would call,” Gabriel’s amusing voice came through her phone.

“What do you want Gabriel?” she asked through clenched teeth.

“You!” his answer was instant, “I only want you.”

“Gabriel…” she placed her palm on her forehead.

“Listen, Nina. Let me be honest. I never lied to you. I’ve decided to divorce her and marry you. I love you and can’t live without you. But that doesn’t mean I’m planning to ditch my kids.”

Nina stayed silent, chewing her lower lip.

“Don’t worry. They will stay with Naila. I’m not asking you to be their mom but please try to understand. My child was hospitalized and Naila had to reach me. I never abandoned you in that hotel. I cleared the dues. I didn’t sneak out on you. I explained that my kid was sick and left. I didn’t have any choice.”

Nina exhaled a long and tired breath, “ok. I need some time. You can’t rush me to any decision.”

He had kissed her on the phone and asked her to meet him the next day. Nina knew why he wanted to see her.

He was not sharing the bed with his spouse. They were living without intimacy.

To be honest, she was also getting tired of suppressing her feelings. After disconnecting the call, she returned to her room and found Shane sitting in bed, smoking a cigarette.

“Sh-Shane… y-you’re awake?” she stuttered badly.
