Chapter 364: 364- Waiting
“Mr. Miles… Mr. Miles!” Miles frowned in his sleep when he felt someone shaking his shoulder gently.
“Hmm?” He got up and put on his glasses. The head butler was standing close to his bed and there was something unusual on his face.
“Sir. You need to wake up and get ready. We must leave,” Placing a comforting hand on his shoulder, he told him gently
“Leave?” Miles watched him in confusion, “where to?”
“To the hospital, sir,” poor butler didn’t want to break the news like this. Miles Sinclair was an elderly man, and he didn’t know how he might react to the news.
Miles took time to stand up due to his stiff muscles, “Is Shane alright?” he asked holding the butler with a shaking hand, “where are we going?”
Butler closed his eyes and held the man by his waist, “To the hospital. Mr. Shane is admitted there… he … he is… not feeling well.”
“Not feeling well?” Miles looked for his glasses that were immediately given to him by his butler.
“Here are your glasses. I have placed your clothes here on the chair. Put them on, so that we can leave. I’ll be right outside your room in case you need me.”
He felt sorry for Mr. Miles, but revealing his son’s severe condition wouldn’t have been appropriate.

Miles saw Gabriel standing in the corridor with red eyes when he reached the hospital. Miles reached to him and held his collar, “Where is my son?” he shook the man a little whose disheveled appearance suggested, he had come straight from bed.
Gabriel didn’t react to Miles. He was standing there like a wilted vegetable, “Mr. Miles. Please!” a doctor pulled Miles apart and looked at his butler who accompanied him, “Please stay close to him. Mr. Gabriel already lost his wife.”
Gabriel lost his wife? Miles glanced at Gabriel not knowing how to respond.
“And where is my son?” he asked the doctor. The doctor turned to him and there was a flicker of hesitation on his face.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Sinclair. We’re trying our best. He is in a coma and the next two days are quite critical.”

“Didn’t Dad say that he would come back?” Alexander asked his mom innocently when she sent him to bed.
“He will. When you wake up in the morning, he’ll be here, buddy,” Sheila kept brushing his hair softly, humming in his ear.
Shane went after Nina, and she didn’t know what was taking him this long.
She hoped Nina was alright. She hadn’t met the woman ever, nor had Shane discussed her with Sheila.
It was a silent pact, never to talk about her, behind her back. They were happy in their own little world and Sheila didn’t want to waste her precious time with Shane, discussing other people.
They talked about books, companionship, and flowers. Thinking about Shane, she slipped into a deep sleep and then got up in the middle of the night. Shane was still not back.
She picked up her phone and sent him a message.
Shane. Where are you? I’m still waiting.
After some time, she dialed the number and found that the number was out of reach. It made her more worried.
Shane had explained to her what she needed to do if something happened to him, and she never took it this seriously.
Oh, please, Shane. Tell me that you’re alright.
She kept pacing in the living room with one hand on her tummy.

“Hey little one,” she murmured, “pray for your father.”
She went to her bedroom and opened the cupboard to take out the steel safe box that had a code.
Only she and Shane knew the code.
“W-why am I thinking so negatively? He is fine and will come to us soon. Of course, he is a businessman, and Nina must be in trouble. I don’t know enough about rich life.”
She placed the safe, back in the cupboard. She was never a nagging woman, so she decided to wait till morning.

The morning arrived and Shane never returned. Sheila’s first instinct was to leave the house with the safe contents and Alexander. But she wanted to wait some more.
What if Shane is in trouble? What if he is stuck in an accident?
“Mom!” the sleepy voice behind her made her turn around. Alexander was standing there, rubbing his eye with a small fist, “Is dad back?”
Sheila tried to smile to console her kid, “No, he isn’t. He is busy, love, and he will be back soon.”
She wanted to emit the same positive energy but what to do about her heart that was already sinking?
Under this pressure, she couldn’t even perform any house chores. She was preparing Alexander’s breakfast when heard a knock at the door.
She nudged the door ajar, thinking that it was Shane. But an elderly man was standing there with a red swollen face.
“Yes? How can I help you?” she asked from inside, keeping the door chain secure in its place.
“Sheila?” he asked her, and she nodded. His face was too familiar.
“I’m… I’m … here to take you with me…” the man finished the sentence with great difficulty. He seemed to be in immense pain.
“B…but we don’t know you!” she asked the man and then she realized why he looked so similar. He was the spitting image of her son.
“I’m Miles Sinclair,” he tried to smile but failed miserably, “I’m here to take you with me.”
His eyes moved behind her where Alex was standing, “Hey, love.” He talked to the six-year-old child with a gentle smile.
Swallowing hard, Sheila removed the chain and opened the door, “Mr. Miles… I … I can’t accompany you… I’m … I’m here… waiting for Shane…”
Broken sentences were coming out of her mouth.
Miles squeezed his lips, but still, tears managed to escape his eyes, “You need to come with me, love… Shane… he is… he is no more…”
Sheila stood there in a trance and then her eyes rolled back, and she was about to fall when the elderly man held her by the waist, not letting her fall.
Miles Sinclair who had lost his remaining strength with his son, didn’t know how he managed to hold the girl.
Alexander was standing there traumatized.
