Chapter 368: 368- Someone Else
He had packed most of the items in the huge cartons.
“Daddy! Can I keep my doll in the backpack?” His daughter asked him, and he wanted to hug her and cry.
“Yes, sweetheart. You can!” His daughter got happy and hugged his legs tightly, “You are the best father in the world!” She ran away after informing him and Gabriel closed his eyes.
But I was never a good husband to your mom. He thought in pain.
All Naila ever wanted from him, was his time and honesty. He couldn’t give her both but now he needed to move away from this city.
Police might not be convinced but he was aware Nina was the culprit.
She could harm his kids too and he didn’t want that. His kids already lost their mom and now he didn’t want them to lose their dad too.
It was time to wear big daddy pants and be there for them.
“Dad. I have helped my siblings to pack up their bags. Now we all need to sleep to get up early,” his six-year-old son informed him.
“Thanks, buddy!” Gabriel offered him his hand for a high-five, and the little boy jumped a little to hit it. His son had started acting like a father to his younger siblings.
I wish I was this considerate when you were alive. He told Naila’s framed picture and then tossed it in a suitcase.
No one was informed about their departure. Nor did he meet any friends to say goodbyes.
Once he would leave the city, he would never get in contact with anyone.
He rubbed his chin and thought of Nina who liked him based on his looks otherwise her husband was a smart man.
He felt sorry for Sheila and wished he could warn her. Nina wasn’t an innocent being and would never hesitate to harm that child.
“I messed up all of this!” he sat on the edge of the bed, holding his hair in his fists.
“I wanted to be a James Bond and told Nina about Shane’s secret life. For her, it was OK if she was cheating on her husband. But it was not OK if he had fallen for a woman.”
“I wish I could meet Sheila,’ he suddenly got up in agitation, “I wish I could warn her.”

Sheila stepped out of her room and started descending the stairs. She wanted to see her son. How was he coping up with the death of his father? He needed his mom by his side.
Her heart was heavy as she hadn’t seen Alex for the last few days. She brushed her hands over her skirt as she made her way downstairs.
She could hear the quiet hum of the voices from the living room, drawing her attention. On shaking legs, she entered the living room where Alex was sitting on the couch beside Nina. His small hands were clutching a piece of toast.
“Come on, little one. Take a bite,” Nina coaxed Alexander gently.
Sheila took a hesitant step towards her son. Something was extremely wrong on his face.
“Baby! Are you sick?” she asked her son who wasn’t eating the toast in his hand but was eating the boiled egg piece from Nina’s hand.
Alex turned his head at the sound of her voice but quickly shifted closer to Nina, clutching her arm.
“Easy, sweetheart,” Nina wiped his mouth gently with a napkin and looked at Sheila with a small smile, “I was feeding him. See? He is getting weak day by day.”
Sheila rushed to Alexander, but he had hidden his face in Nina’s chest, “Alex. Honey. Look at me!” she tried to touch him, but Alex shoved away her hand, “What happened to him?” she asked Nina sternly.
“Relax, Sheila!” Nina uttered gently, “he is recovering from the shock of the loss of his father. You need to be a little mindful.”

“But what happened to his face?” she protested. Alex looked so weak and there were dark circles under his eyes.
He seemed extremely undernourished.
“Alex! Look at me!” this time Alex hugged Nina tightly and Nina placed the bowl nearby and hugged him back.
“Don’t be scared. I’m with you,” she kissed his head.
“What have you done to him!” Sheila demanded Nina, “Is he under some spell?” she tried touching her son’s sleeve and this time Alex screamed at the top of his lungs.
“Baby! I’m your mom!” Sheila tried talking to him, but he wasn’t getting quiet and was now holding his hair in his fists as if he wanted to pull it out of his scalp.
“Sheila. Go away,” Nina shouted at her and Sheila looked stunned.
“B-but he is m-my child and … I’m his … m-mom…”
The kid was not ready to hear a single word, coming out of his mom’s mouth, “For God’s sake, Sheila! Leave!” Nina had started yelling at Sheila and the living room had turned into a war zone where Nina and Alex both were busy screaming.
Sheila was just looking at her son, with her palm placed on her heart. What had gotten into him?
What happened to her baby who was always a well-behaved child? What did Nina do to him when she was sick?
“I’ll … I’ll leave… I promise I’ll leave,” she told Nina after clasping her hands together, “Please don’t punish us. We… we don’t want any wealth. We don’t want Shane’s property. I’ll sign wherever you want to but please let us go!” Sheila saw Nina consoling Alex, brushing her fingers slowly in his hair.
He had now calmed down.
“No, Sheila,” Nina said still looking at Alex’s head, “He needs his father’s home. Don’t snatch it from him. If you don’t like it here, then simply walk out of the house and leave him behind!”
Sheila took a step back. What was Nina talking about? How could she leave her child, her own flesh and blood, behind?
Her gaze darted to her son, whose face was leaned against Nina’s bosom. His eyes were closed, and she could see how Nina was whispering soothing words in his ears.
Sheila hurried back to her room taking unsteady steps.
“Oh, God, Shane!” she leaned her back against the closed door and slipped down to the floor. The kid she saw with Nina wasn’t hers.
He was someone else.
He wasn’t the kid, who was adored by his father.
“What should I do? Where should I go?” she asked herself and started crying.
