Chapter 378: 378- Hakuna Matata, Rafael!

Rafael was sitting on the edge of the bed, holding his head, while Marissa was kneeling close to him, her hands placed on his lap for comfort.

Sophia was sitting at some distance, while stunned silence lingered in the room.

“So, this means, Nina was here after the event after she…” Sophie raised her head to look at her friends, “after she attempted to kill Rafael and then stayed outside our house so that we could witness her presence. How smart!”

Sophie didn’t know what Rafael was feeling. He dragged Nina to the police station because, when he looked at her face, he suddenly remembered his past. Not only had his recent memory been back but his childhood memory also returned.

On his way back, he gradually started getting flashbacks of the room where Nina tortured him.

Sophie wished she could help him to go through this, but he needed to walk this path alone.

“Rafael!” she called him, but his hands remained there on his face, “Once you channel all your feelings, I’m sure you will be free from all the past traumas.”

At last, Rafael removed his hands and both Marissa and Sophie were startled. His face had turned crimson while struggling to keep his emotions in check.

He shook his head and at last looked at Marissa, “The seven-year-old in me is… traumatized. Just to wipe my memory… Nina inflicted so much pain on me and my soul. I don’t know what my mother must be feeling when she tried to run away and all I did was make it harder for her.”

Marissa held his hand tightly. Since childhood, he was in pain but could never realize it. He suffered abuse from the woman who he always thought was his mother.

“She changed your identity by giving you a new name, Rafael. You were Alexander but she played with the mind of a six-year-old,” she squeezed his hand and kissed it, “Alexander. This name,” she looked over her shoulder and smiled at Sophie, “I always thought why he liked this name Alexander so much. Now I understand. It was always in his subconscious.”

She looked back and found him looking at her, “You need time to process all this, Rafael. And don’t think that you’re alone in this. I’m with you. And I’ll always be there for you.”

Rafael’s lower lip quivered a little, “How will you feel about a man who was supposed to keep you safe and to spoil you? He is so weak that he needs your comfort now. He needs your support. It was my duty to provide it to you…”

Marissa didn’t let him speak and placed her palm on his lips, “All this time,” tears rolled down her cheeks, “All this time you were there for me. Waiting for me. Offering your unlimited support to me and our kids. Who said it’s the man’s duty only? We are husband and wife. We both need to be there for each other. Remember?” she said wiping his face, “Remember? Once you said we both are on the same team.”

Rafael nodded and held her hand to kiss it hard. He didn’t move it away from his lips and squeezed it harder while crying.

Sophie didn’t know how to console her friends. Rafael had the unwavering support of all the people around him.

But the pain he experienced so many years ago couldn’t be treated in days or weeks. It required lots of therapy and unlimited love from his family.

And she could see that Marissa was willing to do it. She had always been in love with this man and wouldn’t give up on him ever.

They were lucky to have each other.

Remembering about Joseph she got up. Today proved to be an emotional roller coaster ride for each of them.

No one expected that behind Nina’s pretty face lay a cunning woman who could go to any lengths for her benefit. She manipulated everyone around her.

It all started when she learned that Shane was involved with a woman. No matter how many times she cheated on her husband. But she couldn’t take it when he found another woman for himself.

The hunger for wealth, for looks, to possess everything, destroyed the lives of so many people around them.

Sophie was still eyeing her favorite couple when the door opened silently, and Joseph peeked inside. He found Rafael and Marissa crying in each other’s arms.

Rafael was sitting on the bed while she was on the floor. Rafael was bent forward to hold her. He turned his face to look at Sophie whose face was all emotional as if she could feel the turmoil her friends were going through.

He parted his lips as if to say something, but no words came out. This was Marissa and Rafael’s moment, and he wanted to take Sophie out of the room.

After a moment, Rafael straightened slightly, his eyes red and puffy as he found Joseph standing there with a confused look on his face.

“I… I’m sorry, Rafael,” Joseph started but Rafael shook his head.

“Thank you for being there for my family, Joseph,” Rafael said in a hoarse whisper.

Marissa’s head was still glued to his chest, her trembling shoulders were a telltale sign that she was still crying silently.

“I was here to take Sophie with me,” Joseph cleared with a humble smile, “I think she should give you two some privacy.”

Sophia seemed to come out of the trance, “He is right,” she wiped her face with the back of her hand, “I think we need to go back home.”

She didn’t want to bring up the topic of their kids and Rafael seemed to sense her hesitation.

“MY kids!” Rafael tried to stand up, but Marissa quickly held his hand, “Our kids, love. Our kids.”

“Yeah, sweetheart. I want to meet them,” he helped Marissa standing up who was now leaning into him.

“Your kids need to be mentally prepared to see you, Rafael,” Sophie told him with an uncertain smile, not knowing if he would understand it or not.

He did.

“I understand,” he gave her a tightlipped smile and kissed Marissa’s head, “Who knows better about child psychology? Ask me!”

Marissa placed her arms around his waist and leaned her cheek to his chest. Joseph held Sophie’s hand and gave it a little tug.

Before closing the door Sophie smiled when heard Marissa’s voice telling Rafael in a soothing voice, “Hakuna Matata, Rafael. Hakuna Matata.”
