Chapter 379: 379- Lost Their Granny Forever!
“Why are we living in Aunt Sophia’s house when our house is so big!” Ariel asked Marissa the same question that had been on their innocent minds for quite some time.
Poor Marissa was getting panic attacks by thinking how they would react to the news that their father was back.
Three pairs of innocent eyes were looking at her, waiting for her to speak. In the last year, they had gotten over the fact that they were again without a father.
Sophia had already warned her that they would need therapies to accept the truth.
I think we all need therapy to forget this rough patch of our lives. She thought with a sigh.
“Sweethearts!” Marissa swallowed hard while trying to smile, “How will you all react… I mean what will you do… if … by any chance…” she paused and chuckled nervously.
“Whatever it is. Say it, mommy!” Alex told her with that serious face that lost its glow when they lost Rafael last year.
Marissa wanted to hug her kids tight. She wished she could keep them safe from all the turmoil they experienced at this young age.
“Alex is right, mommy,” Ariel cupped her cheek with her small hand, “Whatever it is. We’re with you…” Abigail also nodded at her.
“What if…” Marissa started trying to weigh every word she was about to utter, “What if… by any chance, God returns your father to you?”
She felt like kids had held their breaths. A stunned silence filled the room.
“Wh…what… do … you mean?” Ariel asked her in a whisper and Marissa could feel her small hands tightly clasped in her lap.
“Daddy died! Right? He died, mommy!” Abigail asked her, her voice trembling with uncertainty.
“I know, honey,” Marissa shifted her hair strand behind her ear, “I know. He was dead. But what if… if … she was looking for suitable words, “What if he slipped a small hill and fell into the water and police thought that he had died? When in actual…” Marissa chewed her lower lip so tightly that she felt the metallic taste of her blood, “When in actuality he was alive and… under treatment.”
The kids kept staring at her like she had turned into an alien, “What’re you trying to say?” Alex asked in a serious tone, “I think we are adult enough to hear about it.”
Marissa laughed through her tears, “I’m aware, Alex. You three are way ahead of your age, my darlings.”
“Wait a minute!” Ariel scrunched her nose and squeezed her eyes, “Do you mean to say…” she stopped for a minute and then let out a long breath, “You are remarrying and giving us another daddy?”
Abigail gasped and tried to jump in excitement but then she reminded herself she wasn’t allowed to jump.
“Really, mommy? Is it Uncle Dean or someone else?”
“No, silly. Uncle Dean is good, but Mommy might have a secret boyfriend,” The conversation was going unexpectedly in a different direction.
“Is this true, Mom?” Alex asked with a bored look and stepped back, “Are you marrying someone?”
Marissa raised her hands and then asked them silently to get quiet, “No, guys. I’m not remarrying. My question was something else. What if your dad… the one who left you… he returns… your father…Rafael Sinclair… if he comes back…”
“But he can’t return, mommy,” Ariel remarked, “Dead people don’t return.”
“They do, love!” Marissa cupped Abigail and Ariel’s cheeks, “If they weren’t dead then they do.”
“What do you mean?” there was a puzzled expression on Alex’s face, “Do you mean to say… that daddy…” his green eyes welled up with tears, and that made his sisters go quiet.
There was disbelief on their faces and Marissa was most worried about Abi. What if her weak heart gave her a tough time?
“Yes, my sweethearts. Daddy… daddy was sick but just a few days back someone told us that… he is safe… he is safe and very much alive.”

Even before Rafael entered the living room along with Joseph and Sophie, all the kids were silently crying, standing near the sofa.

He cautiously eyed his kids whose small frames were trembling. What could he say to these kids when his own heart was racing in his chest?
They were staring at him with wide disbelieving eyes, his lips parted as he tried to form words but failed.
Ariel’s hand crept out and held Abi’s hand tightly as she saw her father with long hair, looking more like a superhero walking towards them.
Rafael’s throat tightened as he stopped at some distance and then kneeled in front of them. He instinctively reached out offering his hand to them, “H-Hey… it’s… it’s me…” he was trying hard not to cry.
They seemed to have grown up a little bit.
“How have you been?” he asked them softly, his voice cracking due to the emotions swirling through him.
“Daddy?” Ariel’s voice was barely above a whisper, her hand covering her mouth as fresh tears spilled down her cheeks.
“It’s… it’s really him!” Alex’s voice cracked as he shifted close to Ariel.
“Yes. It’s me, sweetheart,” Rafael said, his voice shaking, “I’m… I’m so sorry… for everything…” he quickly wiped the tears with his other hand. His hand was still outstretched, and no kid had tried to hold it.
Marissa wanted to ask her kids to hold it but then she needed to give them time to process everything.
“I remember everything, Daddy!” Abi’s small voice reached their ears as she held her father’s hand in her little ones and kissed it.
They all were crying. The kids, Rafael, Marissa, Sophia and Joseph. Every one of them was crying.
The room was only filled with sobs and sniffles when suddenly Alex remembered something.
“Wait a minute!” he quickly turned to Marissa, “Has anyone informed grandma that daddy is back?”
The adults in the room went still at the mention of Nina. For a little while they all had forgotten that these kids didn’t need therapy only for Rafael’s return.
They also needed it because they had lost their granny forever.
