Chapter 386: 386- My Little Witch
Sophia was still blushing from ear to ear due to the compliment she received earlier from Rafael Sinclair about her being a good friend. Or maybe the blush was due to him calling her Mrs. Joseph.
Well! She couldn’t decide.
Marissa had laughed hard even at the tense situation. They all enjoyed that crimson tinge on Sophie’s face that gave her a cute look.
In the waiting room, Dean and Flint had also joined them.
“We need to send him back,” Sophie murmured while eyeing Flint who was leaning back on the sofa, reading some magazine, “he has been complaining of joints’ pain lately.”
Rafael watched the old man who was getting weaker day by day, “I tried,” he told Sophie, “But he was adamant about staying here because he is Abigail’s favorite grandfather.”
Sophie chuckled at that. Marissa felt proud of all the people who were accompanying her in the waiting lounge.
Way back, one of her school teachers had told her to go for quality rather than quantity. She had very few friends, and they all were there when she needed them most.
She saw Dean digging the carpet with the tip of his shoe and thought about Akari. She got up and went to sit beside him.
“Hello there!” Dean turned to look at her with a small smile.
“Hey, Marissa! Have you eaten anything?” Marissa wanted to roll her eyes.
“Urgh. Please, Dean. I’m full. Thanks to Sophie,” she found Dean nodding his head, “Thanks for being here.”
“Now don’t be an asshole!” he clicked his tongue, “I’m not here for you but for the girl who thinks that I’m too gorgeous.”
Marissa chuckled and held his hand, “Do you think I should talk to Akari?” she asked in concern.
Several lines appeared on Dean’s forehead, “Why are we discussing Akari and why would you want to talk to her?”
“To clear the air,” she said with a shrug, “she should know that we are… not involved…” she chuckled awkwardly, “not romantically.”
“Who said we are not!” he looked straight into her eyes and felt her body freezing in shock. But it was just for a few moments because the next minute that same mischievous grin was back on his lips, “Just kidding, silly!”
Marissa released a sigh of relief and gave a slap to his arm, “You’re pathetic, Dean!”
“Ah. Just wanted to cheer you up in this tense situation,” He said nonchalantly and then brought his face closer, “You should go back to your husband. He is getting jealous and thinks that something is going on between us… you know…” He again clicked his tongue meaningfully with a wink.
“Shut up! No, he isn’t. Now think about bringing back Akari to your life and make corrections…” She stopped when saw him shaking his head
“No, love. She isn’t coming back,” he said with finality.
Marissa was taken aback a little, “Wait, what? B-but why?”
“She didn’t trust me, Mar and now I’m over her,” he said with a shrug avoiding that eye contact.
“But you loved her, Dean? Didn’t you?”
“Yeah. I did. But before love comes a thing called self-respect and … trust. I went to her to talk and told her nothing was going on, but she wasn’t convinced.”
He didn’t want to tell Marissa that it happened when Abi was taken to the hospital. He didn’t want her to feel guilty or take responsibility for his breakup.
Akari might be a good girl, but they were not meant to be together. He didn’t want a partner who desired to keep him cut off from his other relationships in his life. He wanted someone to trust him fully with closed eyes.
He wanted the same relationship that Marissa and Rafael shared. Just like they stood beside each other, to lift and support each other through every thick and thin.
Thoroughly disappointed, she went to Flint and crouched down near his sofa. She must have opened her mouth to speak something when he raised his hand, “I’m not going anywhere and I’m very much fit to stay here along with all of you. So, stop trying to send me back just because I’m old.”

Marissa bit back her smile, “But Flint…”
“No! My bones aren’t weak, and I can sit here all my life. Now go back to your husband and stop disturbing me,” he snapped and got busy with his magazine.
Marissa didn’t know how to go with it. The stubborn man was shivering while sitting there.
“I wasn’t here to send you back, Flint,” she told him gently, “I just wanted to share something in hopes that you could come up with some solution.”
He didn’t ask her any questions but just raised his eyes questioningly. Marissa swiped her tongue over her dry lips and tried to smile, “The kids back home want a family member with them. They are continuously asking the governess to call home their daddy or mommy. So, I was thinking that maybe you could…” she trailed off intentionally and a little dramatically, “Leave it, Flint,” she gave him a tight-lipped smile and got up, “I’ll ask Sophie or Joseph for the favor,” she kissed his head fondly and straightened.
Flint seemed confused and looked at other people seated there.
“Alex and Ariel are… worried?” his eyes snapped up to meet hers, “I think I should go to them. They aren’t as close to anyone as me,” holding his stick he got up slowly, “Sophie. Can you give me a ride to the palace? The kids need me.”
Sophie who was surprised by his sudden decision gave Marissa a skeptical look asking her silently how she did it.
Marissa just shrugged and went back to sit beside Rafael. As expected, his arm was at once around her shoulder, “You little minx!”
Marissa giggled at his whisper and hid her half-face behind his arm. Sophie gave her a thumbs-up sign before helping Flint out of the room.
“You are my little witch!” Rafael pulled her head closer to his chest and she felt his lips on her hair, “You took my heart at first sight and now your magic is doing some incredible things to people around us. Thank you for being in my life, Mrs. Marissa Sinclair.”
Marissa smiled before squeezing her eyes shut.
