Chapter 388: 388- Won’t Spare Nina
Marissa and Rafael were still in shock. They were already disturbed due to Abi and now this revelation was too much for them.
“I want to kill her!” Rafael said through his clenched teeth, “I wish I could kill her with my bare hands.”
Marissa was also heartbroken. How will her kids feel about it that their granny tried to kill them in their mom’s tummy? She gave pills to Marissa?
But why?
Why so much interference in a married couple’s life?
“Hey!” Sophie’s gentle voice came from behind, “Whatever is done is now in the past. Let’s focus on our future and enjoy our present.”
Nina tried to destroy our future! An inner voice spoke in Marissa’s head.
Valerie had disappeared into the hallway and Marissa’s eyes caught her near the elevators, talking to Dean. Whatever they were discussing, Marissa didn’t care. But Dean’s posture, the way his eyes were following Valerie’s every movement, made it obvious, he was already enchanted by her beauty.
If it had happened in the past she would have teased Dean about it. Not today!
Not when her baby was lying on an operation table unconscious.
Before Marissa could make sense of her thoughts, the door to the surgery room swung open and the nurse who had emerged from the door paused for a moment.
“Ma’am…” Rafael approached her with his heart pounding, but she mumbled a quick sorry and walked past them. Rafael wasn’t there to stare at the closed door. He followed the nurse without a second thought, taking long strides, trying to catch her quickly.
“Excuse me,” he called in the hallway, his voice louder this time. When the nurse turned, her face softened slightly.
“Sir. I can’t discuss anything right now,” she said holding up her hands, “Dr. Sanders is still working on your daughter. Why don’t you go and have some coffee? Your wife also seems tired. I’ll come find you as soon as there’s an update.”
“No. But… is she ok?” he pressed, his voice cracking a bit, “Just need to know if … my princess is doing good.”
A flicker of sympathy crossed her face, “She’s stable until now,” she said with a reassuring nod, “the doctors are doing everything in their power. You need to stay calm sir. Your wife needs a sane husband right now.”
The woman made sense.
Rafael exhaled deeply, his shoulders sagging slightly. He nodded and watched as the nurse hurried away.
Turning back, he walked back to Marissa whose arms were tightly crossed on her chest. When their eyes met, she cocked up a brow and he gave her a faint smile, “She said, Abigail is stable.”
Marissa’s eyes were glistening with tears, “Then why they are taking so long if she is stable.”
Rafael just pulled her to him. She was the only strength he needed in his life at this stage.
“She is going to be OK, strawberry. Stop worrying about her,” he whispered more to himself than her, “she has to be…” he murmured, “she has to be.”

At last, the door to the operation theatre opened and Dr. Sanders came out of it after performing the surgery for twelve hours.
By now Rafael and Marissa were on the brink of breaking down, overwhelmed by the mounting fear.
Dr. Sanders tried to smile when he felt the tension in the air.
“Mr. Sanders. How is she?” Marissa held the middle-aged man’s hands in her frozen ones, “Have you performed the surgery?”
The surgeon smiled warmly and held back Marissa’s hands, “The surgery was successful, Mrs. Sinclair. Congratulations,” Rafael and Marissa took a sigh of relief and started crying.

“C… Can we meet her?” Rafael tried to peek behind Dr. Sanders when a nurse came out of the room. He couldn’t see Abi’s bed due to the blue curtains around her.
“Yes, please go ahead. She needs twenty-four hours to get back consciousness as her body wasn’t reacting to some of the meds initially. But we are quite hopeful,” he shook Rafael’s hand and tapped on it, “touch her, give her skin-to-skin connection. Talk to her without waiting for any response, it will do her good. Just be careful about the tubes attached to her body.”
When he left, Marissa was pulled into a hug by Sophie who was also shaking against her.
“See? I told you… I told you she’ll be alright. She is our little warrior,” Marissa nodded and wiped Sophie’s wet cheeks.
For the first time in hours, Marissa allowed herself to smile. It stayed on her lips until she stepped into Abi’s room. However, the smile faltered when she saw her daughter’s small body surrounded by tubes and wires.
She tilted her head when felt Rafael’s hand on her shoulder. They slowly approached the bed, her hands trembling as she reached out, “Oh, baby,” she whispered in a teary voice.
Gathering enough courage, she gently touched her fingers against Abigail’s tiny hand. Rafael’s eyes were locked on their daughter, “The worst part is over, Marissa,” he leaned a little to kiss softly the back of Abi’s hand.
“Yeah,” Marissa agreed, her index finger hooked through Abi’s tiny one, “She was the last one among our kids to be discharged from the hospital after birth. She was born with a weak heart and doctors had told me that she wouldn’t be able to make it past one or two weeks. She proved all of them wrong,” Marissa giggled with tear-filled eyes.
She turned her head to look at Rafael’s face which had an unreadable expression.
What was he thinking?
She got the answer within a few minutes.
“She is responsible for it,” he snarled behind her, and Marissa was shocked to see this alien side of Rafael. There was rage in his eyes.
“She messed up with my baby when you were pregnant. I’ll make sure that she rots in jail and never comes out!”
“Rafael!” Marissa tried to move his focus to her but nah! The man standing there was not a husband anymore. He was a father who wanted to give a tough time to the person who tried to harm his kids.
He won’t spare Nina.
