Chapter 391: 391- I Need To Eat
(6 weeks later)
“Oh, Marissa. I can’t believe I’m getting married,” Sophie was trying the wedding dresses in the boutique and Marissa could see how chirpier she had gotten.
The dress designer Lorrain Duval was showing her different gowns. She was bustling around them, holding up dresses, giving advice, and adjusting Sophie’s hems with precision.
“Even I can’t believe that the Ms. Independent doctor Sophia … the famous gynecologist… who thought that she was too strong for the men out there is getting married.”
Marissa teased her friend, shaking her hips, and picked up the dress lying on the dresser.
“This one is absolutely stunning, Sophie,” Loraine said, stepping back to admire her work, “Let me grab a few more options that might suit your style,” she disappeared into the racks, leaving Sophie and Marissa alone for a moment.
Sophie was standing there only in her bra and panties; her hands were placed on her hips.
“I think I am one of those asshole customers who keep giving a hard time to everyone around them,” she clicked her tongue and went to examine a mannequin, “yesterday this event planner was telling me that I’m very difficult to be pleased.”
“Fu*ck those event planners,” Marissa muttered under her breath. She went to Sophie and pushed back a stray hair off her forehead and secured it with a pin, “You are not an ordinary woman and deserve everything best in life. If they can’t keep up with your demands, then they are not competitive enough,” Marissa finished with a shrug.
Her friend was very picky about her things, but she stayed with Marissa during her hardest time. Marisa was in no mood for this self-pity talk from her amazing friend.
She deserved everything best in her life.
“You’re glowing and Joseph is very lucky to have you, Soph. You are an amazing aunt and an amazing friend. Plus, don’t forget you are my husband’s video game partner too,” Marissa pointed out with a soft smile.
“It feels surreal, you know?” Sophie eyed a dress and ran her hands over the delicate embroidery, “I keep thinking and these random thoughts keep popping into my head.”
“Oh, Sophie,” Marissa tapped her index finger on her head and then held her by her shoulders, “These random thoughts are normal, sweetheart. You’re just getting cold feet. You know Joseph is crazy about you. Now get over with it so that we can go out and enjoy lunch.”
“Urgh. Lunch!” Sophie groaned and Marissa had to watch her carefully. Sophie was a foodie, and it seemed like she was losing her appetite due to the stress.
“You deserve this, Soph,” Marissa said with a chuckle, “Every bit of it. And trust me, you’re going to take everyone’s breath away when you walk down that aisle.”
Sophie smiled, her eyes glistening with unshed tears, “You’re going to make me cry, Marissa. And then Lorraine will scold me for being a cry-bride. She might slap my se*xy booty…”
They both laughed at this. Lorraine returned with a shimmering satin gown, holding it up, “Have a look at this showstopper. It’s bold, elegant, and just the right amount of drama.”
Sophie’s eyes widened as she looked at the gown, “Oh, wow. That’s something.”
“Try it, Soph,” Marissa urged her, “I think this is the one you were looking for.”
An agitated Sophie stepped into the dressing room, and Marissa waited outside, fiddling with her phone.
“How are you two doing?” she typed a text for Rafael with a wink emoji and got an instant reply.
“Don’t worry about us, Strawberry. Joseph and I are handling the kids quite well. You and Sophie just focus on shopping.”
Marissa closed the chat with a smile and placed the phone in her pants pocket. After a few moments when Sophie emerged, Marissa’s breath caught in her throat. The gown hugged Sophie’s figure perfectly and the train trailed behind her like a liquid silver.
Marissa knew her friend too well.
“You never liked trains…” she tried to remind her friend. Lorraine stepped ahead and examined Sophie, “Well, we can make alterations for her.”
“Huh?” Sophie smiled nervously, twirling slightly, “What do you think, Mar?”
Marissa stood crossing her arms with a playful smirk, “I think we’ve found the dress.”
Sophie gave her a sheepish grin and surprised her with her next remark, “I would like to go with the train. No alterations are needed.”

Marissa eyed her friend who was happily chatting while eating the second serving of ice cream. They decided to have lunch at Densi’s and Sophie who didn’t want to eat anything while trying the gowns, was now gulping down food like a Buffalo.
“As a bride’s maid, you need to wear powder blue gowns along with my girls. Abi and Ariel need to have similar styled dresses as flower girls.”
She patted the napkin against her lips and gestured to a waiter, “I need more cashew toppings please.”
What has gotten into her? Or is it Joseph’s company? Wedding jitters? Marissa wondered while observing her friend.
“I’ve hired a stylist for you and the girls. I need to remind Rafael and Alex to wear grey suits,” she said and then signaled for the waiter again, “I need ice cream. This time it must be strawberry flavor with pecan toppings.”
The waiter moved away after nodding his head and Marissa placed her elbows on the table and eyed her friend with curiosity.
“What!” Sophie asked her when felt her eyes on her face.
“You never liked ice cream,” Sophie had been a foodie all her life. Alright! But she always hated ice cream.
“Yeah. I know. Sometimes it’s good to have something different,” Sophie said with a shrug, “Joseph has been asking me to take care of my diet.”
“Alright,” Marissa leaned back with a nod, “Because he wants to see a fit bride on the wedding day. Right?” But what has it got to do with ice cream?
“Yes,” Sophie responded after taking her bowl from the waiter’s hand anxiously, “And also because…” she put the spoonful of ice cream in her mouth and closed her eyes.
Marissa raised her hands questioningly, “Because?”
“And because…” Sophie bent ahead with a secretive smile on her face, “I need to eat for two instead of one,” she finished with a sheepish grin as her hand moved possessively to her belly.
