Chapter 394: 394- Crying
For the first time, Geena felt like Rafael Sinclair was nervous—more than her.
His green eyes which he took from Miles Sinclair were darting around taking in the décor of the room.
“These mini statues…” Rafael pointed to the small miniatures placed behind the glass of the showcase.
“They belong to the owner of this apartment,” she explained to him with an uncertain smile, “Ethan’s friend owns this place…” She placed her hands in her pants pocket, “he needed a caretaker, and I needed a place to live near the campus.”
There was again heavy silence hanging in the room.
Geena felt Rafael was avoiding eye contact, “Do you want coffee?” she asked him, picking up the tray a little clumsily.
Rafael hummed but kept looking around. Geena understood his situation. He led his whole life alone under the shadow of Nina Sinclair.
He never knew that he had a sibling and now when he was aware, he didn’t know how to handle that. Geena decided to take the lead.
“Sit down, Mr. Sinclair. I’ll bring you some coffee,” before she could walk past him, her wrist was grabbed suddenly by the man.
“When did you come to know that… that…” he didn’t know how to finish it.
“That you’re my brother?” the smile vanished from her lips, “The nuns at the orphanage told me about my family without mentioning names.”
“When did they mention it then?”
“The day I turned eighteen and was about to leave the place. They told me everything,” he was now standing near the window looking out.
Geena inhaled a tired breath and at last, decided to sit on the edge of the bed, “I approached Nina because I wanted to take revenge. I kept looking for some proof so that I could ask the authorities to reopen the case.”
“Any luck?” the voice asked her without turning to her.
Geena chuckled and shook her head, “I even stayed overnight at her place. But she proved to be more cunning than my expectations.”
She kept fidgeting her fingers not knowing why he was here.
“Why are you here?” she was horrified when the question escaped her lips. His back seemed to go rigid.
“What do you think? Why am I here?” Geena didn’t answer that and stayed quiet.
The situation had turned awkward for her. She even didn’t know about his likes and dislikes.
Then there was a slight sound…
A sniffling sound!
Geena froze, her heart thudding in her chest.
Was he crying?
She glanced towards the window where Rafael stood, his back still turned to her. His broad shoulders were rigid, and his head was slightly bowed.
Slowly she got up and took a hesitant step forward.
“Rafael?” her voice was soft but nervous. Oh crap! Why am I calling him that?
“I … I mean… Mr. Sinclair?”
He didn’t respond immediately, nor did he try to correct her. She did see him wiping his face with the back of his hand.

When he finally turned to face her, his eyes were red-brimmed.
“I’m sorry,” his voice was thick with emotions, “I … I didn’t mean to…” He stopped, exhaling sharply as if trying to regain control over his life.
“All this time…” He shrugged, still not looking at her, “I thought no one shared my blood except Nina. Y-you…” he raised his hand and gestured towards her, “You’ve been out there this whole time… in an orphanage,” he chuckled that lacked humor.
Out of nowhere, Geena felt a lump forming in her throat, but she forced herself to speak.
“It’s OK. You don’t need to feel guilty about it,” she tried to smile, “This is new for me too. It’s ok to feel overwhelmed.”
He was now looking at the floor, the tip of his shoe was digging it, and Geena’s eyes were also cast down.
She closed her eyes and tried to speak the words that were stinging at the back of her mind, “D-do you remember her?”
Rafael understood about whom she was asking. He couldn’t speak but just nodded with a tight-lipped smile, “Yes. Now I do!”
He let out a dry laugh, shaking his head, “Overwhelmed is an understatement,” he looked at her, his green eyes filled with vulnerability and guilt.
“She…” he heaved a heavy sigh, “she came to me and asked me to find you and get to you …”
Geena’s face snapped up at that, “What?” she asked in a whisper, and he nodded with a soft smile.
“She met me and asked me if I wanted to accompany her. And when I didn’t respond, she requested me to go and meet you at St. Mary’s. I think she knew that someday all of this would come back to me.”
This was news for Geena. She was told that Sheila left the orphanage to go and fetch her son. Their understanding was, that she could never meet Rafael and was killed before that.
The tears were stinging at the back of her eyelids, “That’s great!” she tried to stop the tears, but they flowed down her face.
“I’m sorry, Giana for not finding you sooner. For not being there for you. As an…” he shook his head to speak those alien words, that he never knew he would ever speak, “As an older brother… as your older brother I… was supposed to take care of you.”
It was getting hard for Geena.
This handsome man standing in this room was accepting her as his younger sister.
“Do you even realize what you are saying?” she tried to laugh it off but he stayed serious.
“Yes. You are my younger sister and that means… you are a Sinclair. Giana Sinclair.”
This time Geena didn’t utter a single word. Was it that easy?
She was never interested in getting the acknowledgment as a Sinclair. But here he was. Telling her about her rightful place.
All her life she hated her name Giana and took the name Geena for revenge. She never planned to go back to her original name.
However, the man standing here liked calling her Giana, instead of Geena.
“Giana,” he spoke again, “I … can I get a hug?”
“Huh?” she looked up and found him walking to her. Without another word, she was pulled into that fierce hug with his strong arms wrapped around her.
Her tears were streaming down freely and absorbing into his t-shirt. Holding his sister Rafael Sinclair was also crying.
