Chapter 396: 396- Left Out
The next morning was quite unexpected for the Sinclair kids. They all came out of their bedroom rubbing their eyes as they could hear loud laughter coming from the kitchen.
“I wonder who this is?” Abi remarked clutching her small stuffed toy in one hand and holding Georgie’s in the other one.
“Sounds like Mrs. Sinclair!” Georgie whispered, his eyes staring ahead.
“Impossible!” Alex remarked at that. It had been such a long time since they all heard their mommy laugh like that.
The sound almost sounded alien to their ears.
“Mommy must be happy due to Abigail’s health,” Ariel threw her arm around Abi’s frail shoulders and squeezed her. She also gave a side glance to the boy who was becoming Abigail’s shadow with each passing day.
However, this was not the suitable time to focus on Georgie but on their mom.
They all stopped dead when they saw whatever was visible going on in the kitchen.
Marissa was sitting on the counter; her hands were holding a knife as if she was holding a mic. The commentary was going on about how Rafael was frying something, tossing what seemed to be a potato stick like a cricket ball, perhaps too scared of the hot oil.
“Mr. Sinclair. This is my kitchen, not your cricket ground,” Marissa scratched her head and shook her face in fake disappointment.
“Mrs. Sinclair. No need to make fun of me. I’m trying. Ok?” he threw the potato sticks in the pan, but it landed on the counter instead, “I’ve never stepped into my kitchen in my entire life,” he mumbled before picking up another potato piece from the big glass bowl.
None of them had realized that their kids were observing them with great interest. They all exchanged wide-eyed glances, trying to process whatever was going on in the kitchen.
“Is that really… mommy and daddy?” Abi whispered, her hand’s grip tightening around Georgie’s.
She had witnessed how worried they both were when she was recovering after her surgery.
“Looks like it,” Alex muttered who stood behind her unable to tear his eyes away from their parents.
“I think…” Ariel tried to keep her voice low, “Daddy’s trying to cook. This is a first!”
“It’s a disaster!” Alex quipped with a grin, nudging Georgie from the other side.
“Ladies and gentlemen!” Marissa’s commentary drew their attention once again, “We are witnessing history here. Mr. Sinclair is attempting to cook for the first time in his life. Can we all give him a standing ovation?” she had started giggling by the end of it.
Rafael shot a mock glare over his shoulder, “If you remember I already cooked pancakes for all of you once. This frying is not my cup of tea,” poor him cursed himself for offering his breakfast expertise to his wife.
This morning, after making love he wanted to cook pancakes for her, but she insisted that she wanted to eat french fries.
Now who eats French fries for breakfast? He thought with a sigh.
This time Rafael managed to drop the potato sticks covered in breadcrumbs more confidently, “Mrs. Sinclair,” he spoke in between the whizzing sound of the oil, “I’d like to see you face a board meeting with a mic.”
He then moved closer to his wife and whispered something naughty in her ear that made Marissa’s face turn crimson.
She was always scared of the mic, but she overcame her fear after his death news when she took over the MSin Industries.
She burst into laughter, her shoulders shaking as she leaned back on the counter, “Oh. Should I summon a boardroom with a mic, full of potatoes?”
The kids couldn’t hold back their giggles this time, “Your boardroom is awake, Mommy!” Alex called out stepping into the kitchen with his siblings trailing behind him.
Their parents turned with a startled expression on their faces. Marissa quickly set the knife down, her face flushed as she spotted their cute audience.
“Sweethearts!” she exclaimed, sliding off the counter, “What are you all doing up so early?”
Even Rafael was quick to turn the flame slow, not caring that he needed a medium flame to fry those potatoes if he wanted them to turn crispy, just like his wife wanted them to be.

Ariel walked inside and started opening the cabinets like she was searching for something. Holding the skimmer, Rafael gave his daughter a curious look and cocked up his brow questioningly while looking at his wife.
Marissa shrugged not knowing what the little girl wanted.
“Ariel! What are you looking for?”
“My mom!” Ariel stated while opening another cabinet, “I can’t find her!” she looked over her shoulder and then started searching again.
Alex went to her and placed his hand on her forehead, “No fever. Still, she is acting crazy.”
“I’m not acting crazy,” she straightened and looked at her father, “the lady who was laughing just a few minutes back wasn’t our mom. She was someone else,” Her siblings nodded in agreement.
Marissa gulped hard and started looking at the kitchen floor, “You all are my life, and you all are the reason for my happiness. A woman is not whole without her husband– without her kids. No matter how independent I get. But today I don’t feel any shame to admit this,” she raised her eyes that were now filled with tears, “I’m incomplete with you all.”
“We love you too, Mommy,” Abigail’s small voice also turned shaky, “I still remember how I missed Daddy when we all thought he was dead.”
A teary chuckle left Marissa’s lips as Rafael pulled her to him and hugged her, “I’m back now, my love. Bad days are over.”
Marissa nodded; her face glued to his chest. Georgie who was observing them with a somber expression, managed a small smile, “You all can group hug I guess.”
“Good idea, man!” Alex slapped his shoulder and went to hug his parents’ legs, but Rafael stopped him and then kneeled on the kitchen floor. Marisa confused them when instead of kneeling beside her husband she went to the stove to turn it off where the potato pieces were close to getting black because of constant frying.
She then joined Rafael, kneeling on the floor. The triplets approached their parents to hug them, and that made Rafael fall backwards, making all of them laugh.
Every member of the family could recall the time when a year back they all made Rafael fall in the garden of the MSin Palace.
Georgie wished he could go to his father and hug him just like that. He didn’t even know what his father looked like, but he trusted Mrs. Sinclair.
“Hey, Georgie!” Rafael’s voice snapped him back into reality, “Come over! Join us!” Rafael’s arm was spread out waiting for him.
Georgie didn’t take the time to join them. They always made sure that he never felt left out.
