Chapter 409: 409- Who Was Abi?
“Mrs. James,” Lisa gave her a sweet smile, “this daughter of yours. She doesn’t understand that if she wants money, she needs to be there. Mr. Ramsey won’t forgive her, and she might lose her job…” Valerie tried to speak but she was Lisa not Aniya, “Don’t worry about her face,” Lisa gave her an over-brightened smile, “She can work in the kitchen!”
Aniya was observing her friend in admiration.

“Are you out of your fuc*king mind? You think they are loving to you? After what they have done to you? To your face?” Lisa was pacing around like a wild cat. Aniya was sitting quietly on the bench, listening to her lecture, “For God’s sake, Aniya. You’re an asthma patient. An inhaler user! Anything could have gone wrong.”
They were in a deserted park that was closed due to some construction.
“I… I don’t have anyone, Lisa … I mean where will I go?” Lisa stopped pacing and placed her hand on her hip.
“How old are you, Aniya James?” She had inhaled a long sharp breath in frustration when Aniya didn’t answer, “Tell me,” She pressed, this time with an edge in her voice, “You are suffering from Stockholm syndrome, sweetie. OK? Now tell me. When are you turning eighteen?”
“After two weeks,” she mumbled but her voice was barely audible.
Stockholm syndrome. What is that?
Lisa straightened, looking directly at her, “What are you planning to do with your life after you turn eighteen?”
Aniya shifted uncomfortably and raised her shoulder because she had been giving this thing a thought.
“I am saving so that…” she began, hesitating a bit.
“So that?”
Aniya exhaled, “So that I can afford a separate accommodation.”
“Oh! So thankfully you do have a pea-sized brain!” Now Lisa was taking her seriously perhaps. A wry smile was tugging her lips, “I mean…” she waved her hand when Aniya again shrugged.
“I don’t know where, but I think … they… I mean my parents are taking my savings so that I can’t be independent.”
Lisa rolled her eyes and sat beside her, “OK. So, you are a fool but not that extreme. Great!” She chuckled, “Now listen to me, Ms. a-little-bit-wise. Don’t worry about accommodation. You can save more later by sharing my apartment. You just got lucky that my roommate is leaving this weekend.”
Aniya’s head snapped towards her, “What about my parents?” Her brows furrowed, “You just told my mom that we are going to the restaurant to earn. And wait a minute,” she raised her index finger, “Didn’t you take a short break from the restaurant? Mr. Ramsey might fire your ass.”
Lisa waved off her concern, grinning, “Relax. Chill, girl. I don’t give a flying fu*ck what Mr. Ramsey thinks of me. Right now, we aren’t going to the restaurant or your house. We are enjoying our life today.”
Before Aniya could protest, Lisa grabbed her hand and tugged her up from the bench, “And before that, I’m taking you to a doctor. Ok?”
“B…but…” Aniya stammered, her feet dragging slightly as Lisa pulled her along.
“No, ifs and buts,” Lisa turned back to look at her, “Put it all on Mr. Ramsey if your parents inquire. I don’t think they will even ask about it,” Lisa’s eyes gleamed in mischief, “Now come on! Woo hoo!”
Aniya giggled and followed Lisa.

As it was a working day, not many people were there in the bar which was a blessing for Aniya. Not everyone could take her battered face quite well.
Though it was now covered with mini bandages. The doctor had also placed a big bandage piece over her shoulder and gave her a few painkillers to pop in before going to bed.
They went inside the bar and grabbed chairs near the counter, “What will you drink? OK. Let me decide!” Lisa turned on her chair to face the bartender, “Make her a Mimosa.”
“Lisa!” she tried tugging Lisa’s sleeve, but she didn’t pay much attention.
“Either it’s Mimosa or I am asking him to give you a tequila shot.”

Aniya shook her head with a chuckle. Her muffler was still wrapped, covering half of her face. Otherwise, she was sure that half of the bar had left the place in horror.
“By the way,” Lisa leaned a little towards her, “This bartender is so cute. What do you think?” Lisa asked her, wiggling her brows.
Aniya rolled her eyes and gave her a playful punch on her arm, “Don’t you get tired of them?”
“Them?”
“Men!” she asked with laughter, but Lisa stayed serious.
“Why should I dislike them? Wait until you meet an intelligent one. Such breed is hard to find but…” she paused when the bartender served them their drinks.
“Anything else?” the cute bartender leaned forward flexing his biceps a bit, “Do let me know what else you want,” he offered with a wink.
Gradually Aniya started enjoying herself. Her mom never allowed her to go anywhere. She got a birthday invitation just once in her childhood, but that too got canceled when Valerie started creating chaos in the house.
At that time, she had said only bad kids visit others’ houses. And the parents who let them go are the monsters. This world is not a good place for kids like you, Aniya.
She accepted the reason at that time, thinking that Valerie cared for her, but now she realized her mom had been manipulating her.
“Lisa!” she leaned a little to whisper, “I can’t wait to leave my mom’s place.”
Lisa who was enjoying the slow music while seated, turned to look at her, “Wow. I like the spirit. Look! What has a single bar visit done to you? Right?”
Aniya nodded.
Lisa even asked her to dance a bit on the floor where there was no one to judge them.
When they came out of that bar, Aniya wanted to shake her ass a bit on the streets.
“We should come here more often,” she suggested to Lisa who hugged her and ruffled her hair.
“Don’t be too hasty, sweetheart. Just pretend for two more weeks that you’re happily living with your poopy parents. Give them the surprise on your eighteenth birthday.”
Aniya knew Lisa was right. She couldn’t wait to turn eighteen. The life outside her house seemed to be more beautiful than she had imagined. It was more fun.
Lisa was looking for the cab when Aniya saw a little girl with her father. A plushy was pressed to her chest with her small hands.
“Don’t worry. I’ll come back to you, Abi,” the innocent voice from her past spoke in her head.
Abi? Who was Abi?
