Chapter 414: 414- Who Was He?
Oh, God! No! He shouldn’t come inside.
She didn’t want to be alone with this man. He was not trustworthy.
With this thought, Aniya got up like lightning and dashed to open her door. Alaric was placing his foot on the last step when she came out of her room and forced a smile onto her face.
“I heard you, Dad,” she closed the door behind her, “No need to say thanks. I enjoy cooking for you.”
Valerie was standing down with her head tilted upwards and she was beaming. For some reason, she seemed unusually cheerful, and Aniya couldn’t help but wonder if this happiness had anything to do with her cooking skills.
Is there something going on, that I don’t know of? She asked herself.
Alaric was struggling to mask the disappointment as surprise flickered across his face, “Uh. Yeah… I… you cooked good food. Thank God, you’re back. He-he,” He looked down at Valerie with a chuckle, “Right, honey?”
For Aniya it all didn’t look natural. Her parents never admired her. In childhood, she kept looking for their validation, but they never even said thank you.
She had been cooking for them all her life and even cooked the dishes that tasted better than this pizza. Then why tonight?
What was so different tonight?
There was something fishy going in and she could smell it. But couldn’t place her finger on it.
Alaric was now rubbing his hands on his pants with helpless laughter. Maybe he wasn’t expecting Aniya to play smart and come out of her bedroom.
“Yeah. Right. You can go and rest Aniya,” Valerie told her, and to Aniya it didn’t add up. Her mom never gave a damn if she took a rest or not.
“Ok, Mom,” Aniya stood there with a tight smile waiting for her father to leave. She couldn’t trust this man. What if he follows her into her room using some other excuse?
“Uh huh… I think I should go down,” Alaric laughed again and there was a hint of embarrassment on his face.
“Yeah,” Aniya nodded, “Thanks for liking it, Dad.”
When she saw Alaric turning to leave, she opened her bedroom door to step inside.
She wished there was a proper lock on the door. Her parents never bothered to get those locks fixed.
For a long time, their bedroom door used to stay ajar even when they used to get intimate. Aniya had gotten used to those wild noises, not knowing what used to happen there.
All the movies she had watched, never showed much after kissing, except covering themselves with a blanket and moving in odd positions.
“I’ll ask Lisa next time,” she mumbled and went to her bed. However, she couldn’t get a peaceful sleep.
Every sound and every creak of the wood used to wake her up. The bathroom incident had compelled her to raise her guard.
She didn’t want Alaric to visit her in her sleep. Her father couldn’t be trusted anymore.

“Why are there dark circles under your eyes?” Lisa watched her face carefully while having lunch in the back room of the restaurant. They used to get fifteen minutes break for lunch and two or three, five minutes bathroom breaks.
Aniya shrugged and took a spoon of her lentil soup, provided by the restaurant.
“Did your father try to… molest you again?” Lisa’s instincts were on high alert, and she had stopped eating. However, she took a sigh of relief when Aniya shook her head, “he wanted to…” She took a bite from her bread, “But before he could enter, I came out.”
“Hmm,” Lisa groaned.
“But I did stay awake for most of the night, Lisa. I was a little scared. What if he comes inside?”

“How about I fix the lock of your room?” Lisa offered her. And before Aniya could reply to her, Mr. Ramsey clapped his hands, standing in the doorway.
“Come on. Your break is over. Time to give relief to the next two waiters.”
Lisa and Aniya were on their feet and started serving the customers.
“Aniya!” Lisa whispered with her serving tray, “Take this to that table. The customer wants you to serve him,”
“Me?” Aniya didn’t know what to say or do. No customer ever demanded to get served by her.
“Go. He looks like a rich man,” Aniya quietly took the tray from her hand and went to the table. The face of the man seemed familiar.
“Remember me?” he asked her when she started placing the dishes on his table, “You asked my friend to eat main course instead of chicken wings.”
Aniya’s eyes narrowed a little when she remembered the little incident. This man was also there, looking at her like a creep.
“Oh, yes. Now I do,” Aniya said with a smile. She didn’t want to disappoint the customer, but she wasn’t into that stuff yet where you give flirtatious smiles to her customers.
“So,” he leaned his chin on his intertwined fingers, “When are you turning eighteen.”
Huh! What?
“How do you know that my birthday is…” she was asking him with a shocked face when out of nowhere Lisa intervened.
“Any problem?” she asked the man with an over-brightened smile. The man now had a faint, unsettling grin on his face.
“No problem. I was just checking if her asthma is still bothering her,” he said while scooping some sticky rice to transfer it into his plate.
There was still a sinister smile when he got busy eating his food.
“Do you know him?” Lisa asked her when that man left the restaurant. He didn’t engage in any further conversation, but Aniya kept feeling his eyes on her.
“No. I don’t. He was there when that customer made a fuss about my starter suggestion.”
“He knows about your asthma,” Lisa pointed out.
“Yes,” Aniya picked up the fresh napkins to place them on a vacant table, “he also knows that I’m about to turn eighteen…”
Aniya informed her agitatedly. Lisa also had worry lines on her forehead.
Who was this man who knew so much about Aniya?
