Chapter 415: 415- Sangua
Aniya bolted up in her bed when someone attempted to turn the handle of her door. Must be her father because if it was Valerie she would have been screaming her name as well.
With sleepy eyes, she squinted at the timepiece. It read 2 am. The sound of the door echoed louder due to the silence in the house.
Thanks to Lisa who ordered a safety lock from an online company and gave it to her. It was supposed to be put under the doorknob. Lisa had instructed her to carry it with her in the bathroom too.
At least Aniya had gotten back her precious sleep due to it.
But now the way someone was trying to shake the door it seemed like he wanted to break in.
Aniya kept looking at the door, half expecting it to splinter and break off its hinges.
The only thing she was scared of, was her father’s intentions.
After a full minute of relentless torment, he finally seemed to give up. Aniya listened as his footsteps gradually faded into the distance.
The biggest thing in her favor was Valerie’s presence at home. Alaric couldn’t afford to let her know about it.
No matter how abusive he was towards Valerie, but he would definitely try to hide his bad intentions from her.
Aniya laid back on her bed and looked at the same ceiling that had been there with her for the last many years.
She didn’t even remember her childhood. There was no memory of the past, except some faces of random kids and a couple who sounded like husband and wife.
Those smiling faces were so embedded deep in her head that she almost thought those people were real.
A small boy who used to tell her that he would return to her. A man who had all the love on his face for her and used to call her princess.
Aniya didn’t know who those people were. She had told herself that they were some real people who once were a part of her life.
But if they really existed then where were they? Where could she find them?
How to look for them?

“So, your poopy father tried to break in,” Lisa asked her while walking with her. Today she didn’t bother to bring her bike and now both of them were walking slowly after their late night shift ended.
“Thanks to your lock. It was a blessing …” Aniya started rubbing her hands in the cold. Just this morning she had realized that it’s been some time since she last got her asthma attack.
“So back to those images you get… what do they look like? Don’t you remember if you saw them on a TV screen or …” Lisa shrugged, “Maybe they came to the restaurant or your neighborhood…”
Aniya started shaking her head, “I’m sure they aren’t from here. I never watched them on TV. I don’t even remember my childhood but sometimes… sometimes I feel…” She stopped walking and had a dreamy look on her face.
“Well! I’m waiting Aniya,” Lisa stood before her and waved a hand near her face. Aniya sighed and tightened her lips together into a thin line.
“Lisa… I don’t know why… but… I think…” Tears welled up in her eyes, “I think they are my parents.”
A tear droplet glided down her cheek.

They were at Lisa’s place and this time Aniya didn’t even get permission from Valerie. It was more like a statement.
“Mom. I need to stay at Lisa’s place tonight. Something urgent came up,” she wasn’t in school so she couldn’t even come up with some silly assignment excuse, and she had only one choice. To cut the call without explaining further.
Lisa’s laptop was opened on the bed, and they were searching for different images after putting every possible name they could come up with.

“How to find these people?” Lisa muttered when their thousandth attempt failed, “You never saw them, never heard about them, and still…”
She was playing around on Google with different names and faces. They had tried the names of businessmen, celebrities, and even journalists.
“I think… the lady in my dreams,” Aniya thought for a moment, “She resembles…” her eyes shot up to look at her reflection in the room mirror, “she resembles me… but she has longer hair. Oh, God, Lisa.”
She leaned her forehead on her friend’s shoulder.

“Where were you?” Valerie’s stern voice echoed in the living room when she went inside. She needed to get ready for work.
“Mom. Lisa was ill and needed someone,” Lisa had asked her to use the excuse.
“Aniya,” Valerie walked up to her, bringing her face uncomfortably close, sending a chill down her spine, “Since when I allowed you to be this independent,” She hissed.
Before Aniya could say something, a slap landed on her cheek making her head spin.
Aniya swallowed hard, trying to control her nerves, “I’m sorry, Mom. It won’t happen again. Lisa usually hands over her rich customers to me. I thought I should stay with her …” Valerie could only be convinced by the reasoning if the money was involved.
But today Aniya was in for a surprise when Valerie threw a punch over her shoulder, “I don’t give a fu*ck how rich those customers are. Next time you stay there, and I’ll make sure that you can’t walk again on these puny legs of yours.”
Strange!
Valerie was no more interested in money? How was it possible?
“Honey! Make sure you don’t hit her face,” she hated her father’s voice when he instructed his wife.
“Don’t worry, love,” Valerie giggled through her hiccups, “I just hit her shoulder.”
They both sounded drunk.
Aniya was accustomed to it. They weren’t worried about her pain but only about the marks she could get because of their violence.
They both were pathetic.
“How come she never cried after getting hit?” her father asked Valerie in a slurred voice. She was slowly climbing the stairs, heading to her room.
She wanted to escape to a place where their voices wouldn’t reach her ears. She fell on her bed and covered her face with her pillow.
“Ha-ha. I don’t know,” Valerie laughed, “Maybe it has something to do with her being related to Sangua city. Popular wrestlers are from there,”
Aniya tossed aside the pillow that she was using to cover her ears.
Sangua City?
Now she knew where she needed to search for those unknown people. She had heard this name before.
Sangua City.
