Chapter 423: 423- It’s Okay
“She is still in contact with Dad,” Aniya informed Lisa after handing over the dirty dishes to the kitchen boy.
With a shocked face, Lisa spun around, “See? I told you.”
After taking a two day off she had joined back the job, but Aniya could see dark circles around her eyes. She thought Lisa was still sick, but Lisa satisfied her by telling her that she was just weak due to the after-effects of her medications.
“I had this impression that they might be crazily in love then it crossed my mind that no sane mother would want to meet a man who tried to ra*pe her daughter.”
Lisa had sympathy in her eyes and Aniya hated it. Valerie broke her trust and was still acting as if she loved her and cared for her.
“So, what about your birthday plans?” Lisa asked her and she shrugged with a sarcastic grin.
“Nothing. I’ll spend the day with her as I committed and then I’ll tell her the next morning that I’m leaving,” she told her with a sigh and Lisa felt sorry for her, “Lisa. Umm… I need to ask this … Is… is that offer…” Aniya hesitated a bit, but Lisa got her.
“The one where you are welcome to stay at my place? Of course, silly. The offer is always open,” she slapped her arm, “Just enjoy your day with her, and then I’ll be at your place the next morning to pick you up.”
“No need,” she gave Lisa a tightlipped smile, “You’re already doing a lot. I don’t have much to pack anyways,” she picked up the freshly washed soup bowls and brought them out of the kitchen.
Lisa could see that she was angry. Before she could ask Aniya to place the bowls carefully, Aniya had almost dumped them into the trolley as a result one ceramic bowl got a crack.
“Damn!” she cursed and looked up to where Mr. Ramsey was giving her, those killing looks.
“She isn’t well,” Lisa tried to explain to him in a cheerful voice, “I think she was about to lose consciousness. Right, Aniya?” she looked at Aniya for confirmation.
Aniya whose jaw was set in a stubborn resolve, shook her head, “No. I’m perfectly alright. It’s just that I was angry, and I didn’t know where to let out my anger.”
Lisa closed her eyes in annoyance and shook her head. Aniya never got that daring ever since she met her. It seemed like some devil had gotten into her.

The consequences were what Lisa had expected.
Mr. Ramsey sent Aniya home as a punishment. He also issued her a warning that if she tried to take out her rage on the restaurant’s property, he would kick her ass out of that job permanently.
Aniya stormed down the side of the road, her shoes scuffing against the pavement as she angrily kicked a pebble ahead of her.
Sent me home for breaking just a stupid bowl. Who does that? She grumbled under her breath, shoving her hands into her jacket pockets.
As she walked, a soft giggle broke through her disturbed mind. She looked up and spotted a woman holding the hand of a little girl, not older than three or four.
Aniya’s steps slowed down as she watched them. Reality hit her like anything.
Why couldn’t I have all of that? No love. No sweet words.
In her life, there was only one thing she faced and that was abuse.
It was Lisa who tried to make her realize that she was the one who was supposed to break the cycle.
“Then what I’m waiting for?” she asked herself, “Mom needs Alaric! Fine. I need my independence. By midnight, I’ll be eighteen. I’ll stick to my word and spend the day with Mom. After that, it will be Sangua City.”
She told herself while walking to her house.
Valerie’s betrayal had ignited a fire in her. No matter what the consequences from her past life would be, she needed to find herself.
There was something, her so-called parents had been hiding.
Lisa had been right all along.

The anger was now fading into a deep ache.
Did they even care about me?
The little girl ahead squealed in delight as her mother lifted her into the air and spun her around. Aniya stopped walking and stared at them. Her throat tightened before she turned away.
When she reached home, she was already an emotional wreck. Pulling out her keys, she unlocked the door with a little more force than necessary.
As soon as she stepped inside, she went still.
Those familiar noises were coming out of Valerie’s bedroom where she was grunting and groaning.
The same dialogues she had heard while growing up.
“Oh, yes baby. Oh yes. Don’t stop…”
Followed by Alaric’s animalistic rumbles, “I can feel you, love. You’re so tight, baby.”
Aniya could again feel that disgusting steel taste in her mouth, “Don’t you dare vomit!” she told herself sternly, “Get over them. Just one more day and you’re out of here.”
With this mantra, she made it quick and went to her room.

Valerie pushed Alaric away with a chuckle when he tried to insert his tongue into her mouth, “Go! She might return any minute.”
“Stop being scared of her,” he pulled her to him, “She is the same wh*ore who was always scared of us.”
He didn’t like that Valerie was stopping him from having his way.
“I’m not scared but I told you. We might lose everything if she is mad. Don’t blow it up.”
This time he didn’t answer and kissed her hard. When he left, Valerie was still smiling. She closed the door and checked the time on her wristwatch.
“Aniya must be back anytime,” she mumbled and straightened her posture as she walked towards her bedroom.
However, when she glanced up, her steps faltered.
There at the top of the staircase, sat Aniya, her chin resting on her fist.
Valerie’s heart skipped a beat, her chest tightened as if she had forgotten how to breathe, “An-Aniyaaa…”
Aniya did notice her mom’s shaky voice, but she kept herself composed, “It’s Okay, Mom,” she said with a humorless smile, “It’s okay.”
