Chapter 425: 425- Help!
Aniya blinked in disbelief and eyed the garment bag, Valerie was holding, “What?”
“Yeah,” Valerie waved the bag on her face, “I also can’t believe it. My baby is all grown up and about to get married,” She announced excitedly.
For a moment, Aniya was certain that Valerie had lost her mind, “What are you talking about?” She demanded, her voice raising a little, “And where is my phone?” She turned back to look for her phone again, her hands patting around the bedside table.
Valerie calmly placed the garment bag down and pulled out a designer wedding dress, “Your phone isn’t important right now, sweetie,” she said casually as if this wasn’t a big deal for her.
Aniya’s panic was mounting with each passing minute, “Mom, this isn’t funny. Okay? Where is my phone? I need to call Lisa. She’ll come here to pick me.”
“No, sweetheart,” Valerie said softly and started smoothing the lines on the dress, “You aren’t calling anyone,” she at last glanced up at her daughter, “You think I don’t know what you’ve been planning? Huh? Running off like this? Not on my watch, darling!”
Aniya kept staring at the woman who called herself Aniya’s mother. Why was she being this cruel?
How could she commit to a wedding on her behalf? She had completely abandoned the idea of love, care, and these fake relationships.
None of it was for her.
If a mother could do this to her child, then everything was meaningless for her.
“Why are you doing this?” Aniya’s voice broke, her heart pounding in her chest. She stepped closer, her eyes were pleading to the woman standing in front of her.
Valerie turned to her with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes, “I’m not a fool. Okay? I knew it wasn’t Alaric who attacked you that night. It was you. You always had your eyes on him and when he…” Valerie’s eyes were brimmed with tears, “and when he tried to push you, what did you do to him?” she wiped the single droplet from her cheek, “You chewed his tongue?”
Aniya couldn’t believe that Valerie was telling her this messed up story. How far could they both go just to ruin her?
Valerie gestured towards the dress while sniffing her nose, “Don’t worry. Your groom-to-be is filthy rich. He’s powerful. He will keep you happy,” she at last turned to meet her gaze, “I know you don’t love me,” Valerie pursed her lips, “But I still care for you. You will be well taken care of…”
Aniya took a step back. Everything was falling into place. Valerie’s expensive diamond bracelet suddenly flashed in her mind.
Her eyes were darting between the dress and Valerie’s cold face, “Are you selling me off?” she whispered, “Oh, my, God!” her voice trembled, “How much price is he paying you?” she asked in a shaky voice.
The reality wasn’t what she had expected it. She always knew that her parents didn’t love her. But the last few days had been so good that she thought her bad days were over.
She was damn wrong.
Valerie’s smile faltered a bit, “Now don’t be a fool,” her voice was firm where there was not even a tinge of regret, “It’s not about me. It’s about you, Aniya,” she sighed and closed her eyes, “I’m… we are just securing your future.”
We?
Alaric was part of the plan?
“This is something I should have done long ago. We were waiting for you to turn eighteen,” she raised her hand to touch Aniya’s cheek, but Aniya abruptly stepped back rejecting the touch, “Fine!” Valerie didn’t seem to mind, “You’ll thank me someday.”
Aniya’s throat tightened as she clutched her arms to her chest, “I don’t want this, Mom,” she said shakily taking more steps backward, “I won’t do it.”
Valerie’s eyes narrowed as a smile appeared on her face, “Do you think you have a choice? This isn’t negotiable,” she gestured towards the wedding dress, “Now, get ready. I don’t want to hear another word.”
Aniya stood frozen. Now she understood why her phone was taken. Being a cunning fox, her mother had taken… no… stolen the phone from her room. Now she couldn’t call Lisa for help.
“One more thing,” Valerie turned holding the door ajar, “Your wedding was supposed to be yesterday. But I took time from the groom because my daughter wanted to spend the day with me,” with a chuckle she left the room and closed the door behind her.
Aniya stood there motionless; her mind was racing.
She made a mistake.
Damn.

Lisa asked her not to trust the woman and she did. And now she would soon be getting punishment for it.
Oh, Lisa. Help me!

Aniya stood in her small room, staring at herself in the cracked mirror, hanging on the wall. She was wearing the wedding dress; Valerie had brought her.
In normal circumstances, she would have praised the dress but right now the material was too suffocating for her.
She adjusted the neckline awkwardly tugging at the heavy material, “Do I have a choice?” she asked herself in the mirror, “What kind of life am I walking into? What will my parents do if I say no in the church, in front of the priest?”
The reflection in the mirror that stared back at her was different. It was not the reflection of a happy bride. Her face was pale, and the dread was evident in her eyes.
She didn’t have anyone who could help her out of this situation.
Just then a knock echoed on the door that made her body stiffen.
“It must be her… my mom,” she whispered under her breath, “I’m not opening it.”
The knock came again, this time more insistent.
“What’s your issue, Mom,” she sighed and went to the door to pull it open.
A young woman was standing there with a bright smile, carrying a transparent case of all the beauty supplies, “Hello,” she stepped inside without waiting for an invitation, “I’m here to do your make-up.”
A beautician!
Aniya looked at the girl thoughtfully.
What if I ask for her help?
