Chapter 434: 434- Might Break!
“Little dove!”
“Little dove!”
Was it an endearment?
George Donovan didn’t give those yucky vibes like Alaric. Nor did he have those dirty, creepy eyes like Dorian Maxwell.
In her motel room, she tried calling Lisa and Liam again, but as usual, they were not responding.
“What’s the matter? I hope they are safe from Dorian,” she tossed aside her phone and tried not to remember today’s incident in the clinic.
Did he really follow me?
Does he find me beautiful?
She slowly walked to the small mirror and stared at her reflection. There was nothing special about this face.
It looked malnourished, with dark circles still evident on her face. Her hair was short, and she wished she had grown them a little longer. One year back she got it grown to her shoulders, but Valerie chopped them back because she was angry.
“I shouldn’t think about her anymore,” she thought with a shudder and then decided to talk to the motel manager. Her office accommodation would take time, and she needed to book the motel for at least two more nights.
“Card or cash?” the manager asked her, and she showed him the bills.
“Cash. I’ll soon get my salary account,” Aniya provided him with extra information in excitement.
Once she came back to her room, she collapsed on her bed. The moment her head hit the pillow, that face filled her mind.
Oh, George Clooney. Spare me, please!

“What? Seriously?” Ariel laughed loudly while having a late dinner with George, “You mean to say, you signed the wrong documents and called the wrong company for the meeting? I don’t believe you.”
George shrugged and poured some wine into her glass, “You can’t blame me. During those days, I was so full of myself, that I wanted to show my dad that I deserved that seat. It was when my dad entered the meeting hall and realized what a mess I had made.”
“Shoot! Was he angry?” she had stopped eating and was waiting for the final blow. But George’s lips curved into a tender smile.
“I thought he would be. But he just took care of everything that day. Later he teased me about it but never scolded me.”
Ariel curved down her lips and took another sip of her wine, “What about Star Corps? Is your newly hired staff competitive?” Instead of answering her, he took his sweet time to chew food and finish his wine.
“Umm hmm. Everyone is good. I guess I’m lucky,” he avoided eye contact and Ariel noticed it.
“Are you hiding something, Georgie?”
George stopped eating and at last, wiped his mouth with the napkin, “I’m not hiding but… there is a girl who just got hired today as a cleaner … and …”
“And?” Ariel cocked up a brow, looking at him across the table.
“And she reminds me of…” he paused looking for appropriate words, but Ariel got him.
“Oh, don’t start that shit again. Phaleees…” Ariel rolled her eyes. She knew what he would say.
“Ariel…”
“George. For God’s sake. Move on. You and Mom are stuck on her memory,” she wasn’t angry but maybe a little irritated.

“Ariel. Meet her once and you’ll understand what I’m trying to tell you…”
Ariel pushed her plate away and left her seat. She walked over to him and rested her hands on his shoulders, “George,” she didn’t let her irritation show in her tone, “This is the tenth girl who resembles her,” she pressed his shoulder blades, “As your friend, I’m concerned. Take therapy. Stop looking for her in every girl’s face.”
George didn’t speak but Ariel could see the pain on his face, “This girl you call a cleaner, she might find it too much that the CEO of the company isn’t letting her do her job. Don’t do that, Georgie. Let this girl breathe.”
George had also stopped eating. The girl’s face kept popping up in his head. That never happened before.
“Spare her, Georgie. Let this girl do her job in peace. She deserves it. The girl you’re looking for isn’t out there. You and Mom need to accept this.”
George knew what she was saying. Marissa Sinclair also had a soft corner for the girls who looked exactly like Abigail or reminded her of Abi.
But Ariel was right. He needed to give the girl this breathing space otherwise her colleagues would soon detect that the CEO was ready to give extra favors to her.
He turned his head towards Ariel’s hand on his shoulder and raised his arm to cover hers, giving it a light pat.
“Don’t worry, Ariel. I’ll be careful,” he assured her.
But how?
How could he be careful when all he saw in those black eyes was innocence?

Aniya went to the office and started cleaning the office cubicles on the ground floor. After that, she was supposed to clean the elevators.
“You’re here,” Mrs. Eileen approached her, carrying a clipboard, “Any problem you’re facing on the second day of your job?”
Yeah. Everything is good except for Paige Fletcher who caused so much noise yesterday.
“No problem, Mrs. Eileen. I’m enjoying my job.”
“Good,” she scanned a document and then gave Aniya a faint smile, “I’ve got good news. Your accommodation request is accepted. You can move there this evening.”
Uh-huh. I just paid my motel manager for two extra days.
“That’s great. Wow,” she chuckled. Why has no one ever told her that being independent is this good?
She got busy with her work and wished she had friends so she could share this news with them.
After wiping down all the furniture with a disinfectant cloth, she was about to leave the hall when she spotted George Donovan talking to someone in a crisp tone through the glass door.
He didn’t even look in her direction which was a good thing. Right? The man standing near him was telling him some facts and figures from a folder and he was engrossed in the conversation with a frown.
For a moment, his eyes raised to look at her but then they darted back to the file.
“Okay. Maybe I should start wiping the interior of the elevator,” she muttered as she grabbed her cleaning supplies and stepped inside the elevator.
The doors were about to close when a hand stopped them from shutting.
Shit! She was stuck. George Donovan was here. Instead of wiping the walls, she stood there like a fool, waiting for him to leave first.
I can clean them later.
The odd thing was he was still not looking at her. He was just standing there near the door with a rigid back.
Just two of them alone.
She cleared her throat and felt like she could die because George Donovan slowly tilted his head to look at her.
“Nothing!” she shrugged with a smile, “I … I just got official accommodation… so I guess I’m happy, sir,” She informed him like a fool and then wanted to slap herself.
Die, Aniya!
“That’s good,” he said gently with a nod.
Unable to hold his gaze, she bent to pick up the supply bucket and accidentally dropped her inhaler on the floor that was in her pocket.
The elevator doors opened at George’s floor, but instead of stepping out, he bent down to pick up the inhaler and handed it to her, “Here, I guess. This is yours.”
His voice, his gesture…
He was so gentle with her as if she might break if he wasn’t careful.
