“So, she uses an inhaler too,” George muttered more to himself.
Aniya wasn’t aware of why he said that.
“Thank you,” Aniya quickly got hold of her inhaler, cursing herself again for being clumsy. She realized he was still standing in the doorway causing the lift to stay at one place.
“Umm. Your office…” she tried reminding him with a poker face, “Your office floor is here.”
Thankfully it was early morning so there weren’t any staff members to be seen. Aniya didn’t want Paige or any other employees to witness any such thing.
“Yeah. Thanks…” he nodded and quickly stepped back. The doors got closed while he was still staring at her.
Clutching the washcloth, Aniya was standing there with that dreamy look on her face when another maid came inside, “What’re you doing here, new girl?” She asked her and then observed the walls of the elevator, “You haven’t even started cleaning them.”
She started doing her job silently, but his dark eyes kept poking at the back of her mind.
Aniya quickly sprayed the disinfectant and started wiping the walls.

“Here is your room,” Mrs. Eileen guided her to a room that was small but clean, “There are no attached baths here. But a big bathroom is provided on every floor with showers and toilets. The kitchen is down the hall in the other corner.”
She was providing her with all the necessary details. The motel manager had returned her one day’s advance and now she was here.
This Women’s hostel was just a few steps away from the office which meant she could save money on commuting.
“The second and third floors are for managerial and corporate girls,” Mrs. Eileen continued and pointed to the small balcony, “You can enjoy your coffee here. An electric kettle is in your room, in case you don’t want to go out.”
Aniya liked her room. It was cozy and tucked in the corner of the corridor. The biggest relief was its safety. There were several watchmen stationed at the main gate.
It was almost dinner time, so she went to the living room on her floor, following the sound of chatter coming from inside.
When she pushed open the door, the noise stopped, and everyone turned to look at her.
“New girl?”
“Another maid?”
“She is so weak and so skinny. Did she come straight from high school? Ha-ha.”
Aniya didn’t mind any of the crappy remarks and chose to ignore those comments.
“Hello, there,” a girl came up to her with a friendly smile, “I’m Olivia.”
“Anaya!” Aniya told her. She was still struggling to get used to her new name.
“Hey, Anaya. Nice meeting you. I’m Emma,” another girl greeted her with a warm smile.
The girls were sitting there in groups, some chatting while others were watching TV with a bored look.
Emma and Olivia introduced her to other girls when the doors to the living room flew open and a woman’s head stuck inside, “Girls! Dinner time!”

They were served bean soup along with Honey oat bread. The dining area was huge, and more women had joined them.

That was when Aniya saw Paige coming inside with a group of girls while laughing at something. When their eyes met, she ignored Aniya.
“She thinks of herself as if she is some Mighty creature or something,” Emma told her after following her gaze.
“Yeah,” Olivia rolled her eyes, “That’s because she thinks she is closest to Mr. George Donovan.”
The name brought delicious tingles to her heart making Aniya more confused.
“Is… is he caring?” out of nowhere she asked the dumbest question, and her new friends got confused.
“Caring?” Emma’s eyes widened in surprise, “What do you mean by caring?”
“Yeah. Like he is our boss, not our boyfriend or brother,” Olivia took a big bite from her loaf and started chewing it as if it wasn’t a piece of loaf but a piece of their boss’s flesh.
Aniya realized what a stupid question she had asked. Since this morning, she was busy telling her heart that he was just being a gentleman, and he was like that with everyone.
But now after asking these girls, she had become more confused.
After getting done with dinner, they chatted some more in the living room until Emma started yawning soundly.
“Okay, folks,” she got up and stretched with another loud yawn, “let’s meet tomorrow in Star Corps.”
Aniya also got to her feet. She was happy to make new friends though now she was genuinely worried about Lisa and Liam.
There were still no texts or calls from them. Their phones were still off.
When they came out of the living room, they saw Paige talking to Mrs. Eileen in a hushed tone.
“This woman is never happy,” Emily whispered while looking at Paige Fletcher sleepily, “She always has problems with everything. Just because she reports to George Donovan directly doesn’t mean that she starts thinking of us as insects.”
Olivia grunted in frustration, “Ignore her. Let her be happy with Mr. George. He is off limits anyways.”
While walking ahead, Aniya looked over her shoulder and found Paige looking at her. Aniya had this weird feeling that their topic of discussion was her.

After getting ready, she reached the office in time. Most of the maids gathered around Mrs. Eileen to get new duties, “From tomorrow onwards, you will get your next day duties on your email.”
Everyone nodded in appreciation. Like others, Aniya also took out her phone to have a look at her duties.
“OK, bye. I’m on floor second today,” Olivia waved at them.
Emma threw her arms in the air, “And mine is outdoor mopping.”
Three of them fist-bumped each other, “What about your duty, Aniya?” Olivia asked her and Aniya shrugged.
“Haven’t received mine yet,”
“How is it possible?” Olivia got hold of her phone, “You’re right. I can’t see any email. Talk to Mrs. Eileen.”
Mrs. Eileen was heading towards them, “Anaya. You need to wait a bit. The boss asked me not to give you any duty that involves harsh chemicals. Due to your Asthma.”
“What?”
“What?”
Olivia and Emma seemed to go speechless, “How does he know you’ve got Asthma?”
Poor Aniya opened her mouth to say something, but Mrs. Eileen saved her from the trouble, “She mentioned it during the interview.”
Olivia thought for a moment and then poked her elbow in her ribs, “Was that why you were asking about him being caring last night?” she wiggled her brows meaningfully.
“Boss is taking your health quite personally,” Emma also teased her, and Aniya didn’t know what to say.
She needed to talk to George Donovan about this. Never in her life, had she taken her health this seriously.
She was here for the job and couldn’t afford rumors.
