Chapter 436: 436- Have A Great Day
“Mrs. Eileen. It doesn’t matter what chemicals are being used. I’m a hard worker and don’t want to step back from my duties,” she tried explaining to Mrs. Eileen, but she was already shaking her head.
“Don’t feel bad about it, Anaya. If you’re asthmatic, then we need to be careful. There are so many duties that don’t involve these chemicals. Like, fill up the soap dispensers in the restrooms and the office kitchen. You can use alcohol-based wipes. Before leaving the office, you can arrange the cupboards of the file rooms.”
Mrs. Eileen was giving her ideas and Aniya was still not feeling good about it.
“Does Mr. George care for every employee like this?” she asked the question that was pricking at the back of her mind.
“Yes, he does, dear. Now let me prepare the list for your tasks and then I’ll let you know,” Mrs. Eileen left the lobby leaving Aniya there.
“Good God!” she sighed looking around her. Everyone seemed to be busy except her, “Damn this inhaler.”
She tried to feel the inhaler in her pocket and pursed her lips tightly.

Aniya wiped her hands on the hem of the apron, surveying the spotless lobby she had just finished dusting with a microfiber. Mrs. Eileen had given her a mild natural cleaner and now the lobby smelled of faint lemon polish.
She let out a satisfied sigh, happy that at last, she was of some use. She was gathering some cleaning supplies in a basket when she saw Paige walking briskly through the lobby.
Her eyes were wandering around until they rested on Aniya. She snapped her fingers as if she were calling a dog, barely sparing a glance at Aniya, “Hey, girl. Come with me.”
Aniya frowned a little but then asked her in an even voice, “Is there a problem?”
Paige turned on her heels, “No problem. Just a task. Follow me.”
Aniya looked around in confusion, thinking if she should inform Mrs. Eileen.
“Hey. What are you waiting for?” Paige called out and pressed the elevator button, “The executives are having a meeting. I need you to serve them snacks and coffee,” she gave Aniya a quick once-over, then added, “Try not to spill anything. They’re important people.”
Aniya blinked, momentarily caught off guard by the assumption, “S-Sure… let me grab the tray first.”
The elevator doors opened, and Paige went inside, “No need. We do have a full-functioning kitchen there. Please hurry.”
Aniya followed her inside and found Paige looking at her with a pout, “You can manage… right?”
Aniya couldn’t help the slight smirk that tugged at her lips, “I think I’ll survive.”
Paige seemed in too much hurry to argue. Aniya followed her again outside the elevator. Her white sneakers were silent compared to Paige’s loud clacking of heels against the floor.
Paige pointed to a cart laden with coffee cups, saucers, and an assortment of snacks. Aniya could feel her hawk-like eyes.
“Are you sure or should I ask someone else to do it? There are VIP guests,”
“If they are so VIP then perhaps invite them to a high-end restaurant,” she didn’t wait for Paige’s reaction. What was she taking her for?
Aniya picked up the tray with ease, balancing it effortlessly on one hand. The weight was nothing compared to what she used to carry as a waitress.
She pushed open the door with her free hand and stepped inside. The executives barely glanced at her as she moved between them, placing cups and saucers on the table with practiced precision.
However, her hand shivered a little when she found George Donovan looking at her carefully. Right now, Aniya needed to ignore him otherwise she could fumble.
After finishing the task with a hitch, she went out of the room and placed the tray on a counter.
“Anything else?” she asked Paige with a smile who looked impressed.
“No. Thanks. You can pick it all up after ten to fifteen minutes,” Aniya nodded and watched Paige go inside the same room.

She took out her phone from her pocket when it started ringing, “Mrs. Eileen?”
“Where are you? I need you to start cleaning the mirrors of all the restrooms.”
She cleared her throat and looked at the closed door of the meeting room, “Mrs. Eileen. Ms. Paige just asked me to accompany her to the meeting floor. She needed a server.”
Eileen was silent for a few seconds, “Fine. But no need to accompany anyone for being a sever. No one can give you direct orders, Anaya Jakes.”
Aniya disconnected the call. The purpose of getting the job here was security. But now it seemed like she was turning into a football, being kicked by every player.
“Should I go inside to collect cups?” she asked Paige who was watching reels on her phone.
“Umm hmm. Maybe after a few more minutes,” she said with a careless wave of her hand and Aniya sat back on her seat.
Hardly one or two minutes must have passed when the door to the meeting room opened, and the guests started emerging from the room.
Aniya bolted up straight in her place and gave a questioning look to Paige who had also gotten conscious.
“When the guests leave, just clean the meeting area,” she instructed Aniya. Aniya did exactly that. She went inside and found George Donovan seated there, doing nothing. His face snapped up when he saw Aniya getting inside the room.
“May I, sir?” Aniya asked him formally and started picking up trash from the table without even waiting for his acknowledgment.
While stacking the coffee cups and saucers in the tray, she tilted her head a little and found George Donovan looking straight at her.
Her heart skipped a beat.
Why does he look at me like this?
“How’s your job going?” he asked so casually like he knew her even before she joined this job. His one hand was busy playing with the paperweight. However, her response made him not only go still in shock but also regret asking.
“It’s good,” she balanced the tray, “If only people mind their own business and don’t poke their noses in my affairs,” she said curtly in a clipped tone, “I didn’t realize part of my job would involve answering questions from people who think they know me.”
Her words hit him like a slap, and for a moment he was speechless.
He blinked, unsure whether to laugh off her sharp response or apologize for overstepping. Instead, against all odds, he… George Donovan stammered, “I d…didn’t mean to…”
She cut him off with a polite but firm smile, “It’s fine. Have a great day.”
She turned and walked away leaving him sitting there, still processing her unexpected reaction.
