Chapter 458: 458- Falling Deep
“Relax!” He kept stealing concerned glances at her. Aniya was staring at her painted nails– courtesy of Emma.
Suddenly another male hand, appeared on her lap that was larger than hers. It grabbed both her hands in one and squeezed them, “Why are you so scared of Paige,” he asked casually, “Does she bully you?”
Aniya’s eyes darted to his face where she could see worry lines on his forehead. He had even slowed the car.
“N-no… we aren’t kindergarten kids, George,” she patted his hand and tried to laugh it off.
Yes, Paige was a bully, but Aniya wanted to tackle her, herself. George wasn’t her daddy.
“If she bullies you… or anyone bullies you, let me know,” his eyes were now straight ahead at the road.
Aniya’s brows knitted in unease, “What will you do? Punish them?” she giggled again but he was still serious, “Maybe,” he shrugged.
“What do you mean maybe!” she mimicked his style with a teasing chuckle. But something about the way he looked at her, made the humor slip from her lips.
Against all her expectations, without uttering another word, he slowed the car and then pulled over on the side of the road.
The click of his seatbelt unfastening was the only sound in the silence of the car. He turned towards her, his full attention locked on her like a force of a magnet, she couldn’t escape.
“If Paige… or anyone else… messes with you…” she saw his fingers drumming on the steering wheel, “They are done!” he said silkily in a low voice
For a moment Aniya thought she had misheard him. He had been so gentle with her, so this tone felt almost unfamiliar.
“I won’t tolerate it!”
She blinked again at his bluntness, there was no hesitation or no friendliness in his tone. He wasn’t teasing her.
He meant it!
Aniya’s heart did a strange flip, “You can’t be serious!” she whispered more to herself, “You will fire your employee just like that?”
“Just like that, Anaya,” George held her gaze, “In a heartbeat.”

Paige had seen what she wanted to see just an hour back. Her heart was burning with jealousy. Such a shameless bitch Anaya was.
She was sitting in the hostel’s living room with a bitter smile. The carefree chattering of all the girls was giving her a headache.
Her gaze fell on the corner of the room where Emma was applying fresh nail paint while Olivia was busy scrolling her phone.
What has gotten into Mr. George Donovan? Why is he so caring towards her? What is going on between them?
“Paige! You alright?” Her friend asked her, and Paige just closed her eyes, her face set in a blank expression. She wasn’t in the mood to engage in any conversation.
“Should we bring you some tea or coffee?” Another one asked her in concern, but Paige didn’t open her eyes.
She needed to think about this mess Anaya was creating in her life. Paige had stayed close to George unlike other employees and still he never even glanced her way.
The maid was taking benefit of it.
She abruptly bolted up from the couch and dialed a number on her phone. Her friends thought she was acting strange because just a few minutes back she didn’t even want to look at their faces.
“Paige. Is something wrong?”
They asked her but instead of answering, Paige just raised her finger, asking them silently to wait. With her phone glued to her ear, she walked out of the living room.

Once she was outside, she spoke into her phone, “Ariel? Ms. Ariel Sinclair. I need to talk to you.”
“Hey, Paige!” Ariel’s chirpy voice rang on the phone, “What’s up?”
“Ms. Ariel… umm… I… just wanted to tell you something.”
“Yeah. Sure. Shoot!” Ariel offered her in the same easygoing way, “Is George ok?”
“Yeah. He is fine. I think sometimes he feels lonely, Ms. Ariel,” Paige tried to show concern.
“Urgh. Stop calling me Ms. Ariel, Paige. And what are you talking about?”
“Mr. George… I think he misses you. He has been talking about you this last week, nonstop. Can you pay him a visit?” she asked while chewing her lower lip.
“Uh. Okay. I’ll try. His birthday is coming up in three days. I’ll try to be there. Anything else?”
Standing in the corridor, Paige wanted to hoot, “No. That’s it. Umm. Ms. Ariel… I mean, Ariel … can we keep this conversation…” she trailed off and Ariel responded quickly,
“Of course. It’ll stay between us, Paige. Don’t worry.”
After the call, Paige had a wicked smile on her face, “Anaya Jakes. I know you and I know the mentality of the girls like you. You seem fond of flying and I know how to clip your wings.”

As the elevator doors slid open, the cool breeze greeted them. Aniya stepped out hesitantly only to realize that the rooftop was completely empty. Her eyes darted around, searching for a customer. Not a single one in sight.
“There’s no one else here!” she remarked, glancing at him. Without replying, he placed a gentle hand on the small of her back as he guided her forward.
Upon reaching their table, he pulled out a chair for her.
“I was scared for no reason,” she murmured, smoothing her dress before sitting down.
A waiter who had just finished placing a bottle of wine on the table overheard her and gave her a polite smile, “The rooftop was precooked, ma’am.”
Aniya’s eyes widened as she turned sharply to George Donovan, “You book the whole damn thing?” there was disbelief in her eyes.
George who had just taken his seat, shrugged and flashed a charming smile at her, “You were so scared of Paige that I couldn’t even tell you how beautiful you look.”
Before she could understand what he was saying, he had gotten up from his seat and gently pulled her up, “I need to hug you, lady,” his voice was low and husky when he murmured, “I don’t understand why I have to sit opposite you when all I want to do is keep you close. Yet again I want to see your face too, so I think it’s better if I take the opposite seat.”
Aniya wanted to giggle. He was acting like a lovesick puppy.
Her body went rigid.
He was acting like…
Like he… liked her… no… maybe…
Maybe…
Was he…
He must have felt her tense body in his arms, “Are we still good?” he asked her gently and pressed a kiss on her head.
Gulping down her saliva, she nodded.
No, George. I’m not good. But you’re the best thing that happened to me!
She told herself.
Crap!
The relationship was supposed to be just for pleasure. Then why was she falling deep for him?
