Chapter 461: 461- Darling
Before midnight, she left the hostel and took a cap to George’s apartment building. Halfway there, she realized she had forgotten her phone.
Once she reached the reception, she waited for the manager to finish his call. The man had seen her with George and was trying to convince someone to fix the garden tap before the tenants came after him.
Like a good girl, she decided to wait while all she wanted to do was hold him by the collar and ask him to call George down.
She was standing there with her feet, aching in exhaustion. She was still deciding if she should protest when the entrance door behind her flew open making her flinch and a girl came inside with an easygoing aura.
“Sweetheart. I need to go to my boyfriend’s apartment. You know me, right?” she didn’t even care that he was busy on the phone. Aniya tilted her head, and she thought she was imagining it.
A girl who looked so much like her mom but a younger version of her, stood there chewing gum. She flashed Aniya a friendly smile before heading towards the elevators.
Aniya thought she had seen a ghost.
The girl looked so much like Valerie that for a moment Aniya thought someone had played a sick joke on her.
Her heart was still thudding in her chest when the manager gave her an apologetic smile, “Yes, miss?”
“Can you call Mr. George Donovan to the reception area?” she said with a nervous smile, “he knows me. Just tell him that Anaya Jakes wants to meet him.”
She wasn’t planning to go to his apartment. It was supposed to be a short visit just to hand him the gift.
After a few minutes, George came out of the elevator with a wild look on his face, “Anaya! Oh goodness! What a pleasant surprise!”
He pulled her into a hug, “Let’s go to my …” he trailed off when she drew back from his arms, “I can’t. Not tonight, George. I’m here to give you this,” she extended the packed gift his way, “Happy birthday to you.”
George seemed stunned, “Y-you knew…” he took the gift from her hands, and she noticed a flicker of emotion on his face. He looked touched.
“Yes. I knew. What did you think? If you won’t tell me, I’ll not know?”
George opened the gift and took out the small warrior. He examined it in his hand and then not caring that the manager was still there, he kissed hard on Aniya’s lips before squeezing her tight into his chest, “This…” he breathed against her neck, “This is the best gift I ever got!”
Aniya was a little taken aback when she noticed the moisture in his eyes. She felt like her struggle for the gift had paid off.
George wanted to drive her back, but she insisted that he should stay home. Later he sent her along with his car and the chauffeur.
On her way back, the girl who looked like Valerie was stuck in Aniya’s mind. Who was she?
What if God was showing her the sign that Valerie might return to her life? Aniya shuddered. She wished Valerie would never be able to find her. Because if she did, that meant Dorian Maxwell would also be there to claim her.

With one leg crossed over the other, seated comfortably on the sofa, Ariel was reading a magazine when George appeared in the living room, holding something close to his chest.
“Shame on you, G,” she huffed, “Just when I showed up at your doorstep, you left me here all alone and went down to meet someone, tsk!” she tossed the magazine aside and then noticed something off on George’s face.
He seemed… different.
“Is everything alright?” George placed something on the table and nodded silently, “Hmm.”
Ariel heard the long sigh coming from him and chuckled, “So what are we doing right now to celebrate your birthday?” she walked up to him and wrapped her arms around his waist while watching his face.
He looked down and the corner of his lips turned upwards, “Sleep. It’s midnight. What do you expect?”

As Aniya stepped into the lobby, balancing a stack of files, the first person she encountered was Paige.
“Hi, Anaya!” George’s secretary waved at her with a big smile. Aniya glanced back, thinking Paige was waving to someone behind her, then sighed.

It was indeed for her.
Before she could react, Paige stepped closer, “Oh. Let me help you with that,” she reached out for the stack of files Aniya was carrying.
Aniya instinctively pulled them back, “Uh. It’s fine, Paige. I got it.”
But Paige didn’t seem to hear her, “Come on, Anaya. I insist. Or you still hate me?” she chirped, still beaming.
Her gesture didn’t go unnoticed by the staff that was present there.
Most of them knew Paige as a mean girl but this girl who was gladly helping a maid wasn’t the same evil girl.
Aniya could sense the buzz in the lobby due to the murmurs. The people were exchanging glances with raised eyebrows.
“I need to tell you something which you might not know,” Paige leaned in a little, trying to be secretive, “Today is Mr. George Donovan’s birthday.”
Oh. I know, Paige and I have already given him the gift. She thought with a smile and nodded at her, “Thanks for informing Paige. That’s so sweet of you. I’ll see what I can do about it.”
Aniya went away when she received Mrs. Eileen’s call, leaving behind Paige who was no longer smiling but twirling a lock of her hair around her finger.
“I know now how to PLAY, Anaya Jakes. You just watch how I make your life hell. If George doesn’t belong to me. Then he belongs to no one.”
Paige was aware that Anaya knew about George’s birthday. Of course, if his mistress didn’t know then who would?
She just needed to push Anaya off the cliff. Paige clicked her tongue and turned on her heels as she needed to make another call to darling Ariel Sinclair.
