Chapter 469: 469- Will Stay In The Room
“Mrs. Eileen. Can we talk?” Aniya texted her head. Nowadays, she was spending most of her time in the hostel. George Donovan had given special instructions to Mrs. Eileen that Aniya wasn’t supposed to join the office till further notification.
The same day an email was sent to all the employees of the Star Corps that if they felt stressed or anxious, they were welcome to go to the psychologist appointed by the company.
Aniya examined herself in the mirror. Her face had gotten slimmer, dark circles were evident under her eyes. All those sleepless nights were visible in her features, making her look more exhausted than ever.
“I’m at my Star Corps office, Anaya,” Mrs. Eileen’s response was prompt on the message, “If it’s important we can talk on call, or you can come here. Otherwise, you need to wait, dear until I arrive in the evening.”
It was urgent and Aniya didn’t want to wait.
“I’ll be at your office in a while, Mrs. Eileen,” she typed the message and then started getting ready. She didn’t want to face George, but this needed to be done.
She didn’t want to flee away just like that. At some point, she needed to face her ghosts, and George deserved an explanation for her sudden decisions.
She pushed open the glass door of Star Corps and the first person she bumped into was Emma.
“What do you think you are doing here?” carrying a mini wiper, her face was flushed while asking the question, “This morning, when I served you cereal in bed, I told you specifically to stay in your room,” she was acting like a mama bear now.
Aniya took her by surprise by lunging at her for a hug and then kissed her cheek, “Don’t worry. I’m here for a little while.”
Emma touched the part of her cheek where Aniya had just kissed, “You seem much better today, Anaya Jakes. Wow. A kiss from Anaya Jakes! You made my day!” standing in the lobby, she was announcing to the whole world and Aniya had to cover her mouth with her palm.
“Shut up!” She tried suppressing her giggles, “People might think we’re into each other.”
Emma nodded and showed her the wiper, “I’ll wipe their dirty mind with this.”
Leaving her behind to do her job, Aniya walked up to Mrs. Eileen’s office which was at the end of the hallway.
“Anaya!” a smirk broke on her lips when she saw her, “You look good today.”
“Yeah,” Aniya took the seat opposite to her, “Thanks for your care.”
“Oh, don’t be silly. I did nothing. It was Emma and Olivia the whole time. And how can I forget Mr. Donovan!” The mention of his name brought those bitter-sweet memories.
Aniya was looking for words when Mrs. Eileen regarded her with a frown and then took off her glasses, “Is everything alright, dear?”
Aniya sighed and then placed her arms on the table, “I need some help, Mrs. Eileen.”
“Sure. Shoot. That’s what I am here for!” she muttered with a shrug.
Aniya started chewing her lower lip in nervousness.
“It’s OK, Anaya. You can trust me. What is it?” Mrs. Eileen offered her a kind smile.
“Mrs. Eileen. I think…” she paused for a moment, “I think I won’t be able to continue my job here.”
Here! She had triggered the bomb.
“What!” Mrs. Eileen whispered. She wasn’t expecting this, “I don’t think there’s any problem with that. You want to quit? Just resign,”
“I know,” Aniya nodded at her with an uncertain smile, “I need a job and a shelter, Mrs. Eileen. Today I’m not here as your subordinate. I’m here for a bit of honest advice.”
Mrs. Eileen kept watching her face, “Tell me something, Anaya,” she leaned back in her chair and started playing with her glasses, “The reason for your nervous breakdown… does he or she work here? At Star Corps?”
Aniya gulped her saliva. The question was unexpected for her.
“N…No… Mrs. Eileen… I… I…”
“Look, Anaya. You are a very hardworking girl and even a fool can guess quite easily that after recovering from your illness, why you want to quit.”

Anaya didn’t give her any reply. With a sigh, Mrs. Eileen tossed her glasses aside and picked up a small photo frame, turning it one eighty degrees so that Aniya could have a look.
“My daughter Katherine. She used to be as emotional as you. Instead of facing her problems, she loved running away…” Aniya wanted to say something in her defense when Eileen spoke again, “Whoever this person is, I’ll ask you to face him or her. But running away isn’t the solution.”
When Mrs. Eileen’s phone started ringing, she received the call and started talking which gave her enough time to reconsider her decision.
When the older woman was done with her call, she moved her attention back to the girl who was sitting across from her.
“Go home and think hard, Anaya. Let me know what your decision is. Though our policy is, not to make a reference letter unless an employee doesn’t complete at least one year but I guess Mr. Donovan might make an exception here,” she intertwined her fingers and bent ahead, “I would love to hear the reason for this sudden decision of yours.”
Hearing George’s name sent Aniya on a guilt trip, “Mrs. Eileen… I’ll really appreciate it if you keep it with you… I …”
“Don’t worry, girl,” that signature small smile was back on her face, “This will stay in this room…”
Mrs. Eileen was hardly finished when a faint rustling sound came from the small room attached to the office. The shuffling of papers was followed by a soft thud like a writing pad hitting the floor.
Someone was there.
Aniya darted a glance at Mrs. Eileen, whose brows knitted into a frown. Before she could call out, the person inside decided to step into the office.
“Paige?” both Mrs. Eileen and Aniya stared at the George’s secretary in shock.
