Chapter 472: 472- Unexpected Visit!
Aniya kept observing both of them like a creep. She felt like she had turned back to that little girl who used to run around the house, giving panic attacks to her mom.
“Mom. At this rate, the gala will be over before you even pick a dress,” the boy joked.
His mother gave him a pointed look, “Not at all. I’ll get it stitched if I don’t find one.”
He chuckled shaking his head. However, when he looked up and found her watching him, his laughter died in an instant. He was gazing at her intently. His mother who was asking him about something, frowned when she didn’t get a response from her son, “What happened?”
She turned her head to follow his gaze. Her brows knitted together as she noticed Aniya, standing frozen behind the aisle, with only her face visible.
Aniya swallowed hard, trying to look somewhere else. She stepped out from behind the aisle and clutched her purse tightly.
She forced herself to walk past them. Neither of them spoke, their gazes were fixed on Aniya as if trying to process her presence.
“Do they even remember me?” she thought and then her steps quickened as she exited the store.
She kept waiting for them to call her, but they didn’t.
I was abducted when I was a mere kid, and still, I remember them. But why can’t Mom recognize me?

Olivia and Emma were not in the living room and Aniya wasn’t aware if she was welcome in their rooms or not.
It seemed to her like every chapter in her life was pretty messed up by now. Things were getting more complicated with each passing day.
Instead of staying in the living room and listening to Paige’s boring tales of boys who were crazy after her, she decided to check her friends’ rooms.
When she knocked Olivia’s room door, her voice came from inside, “Yes?”
Aniya twisted the handle and went inside. Emma was pouring hot water from the kettle into a cup that had a tea bag.
She stopped midway and cocked up a brow as if asking Aniya why she was there.
“I … I thought I should join you people…” he said with a small smile, “I … was getting bored there.”
Olivia, who was flipping the glossy pages of a magazine, looked up, “Why?” she asked her sweetly, “Isn’t Paige there?” she batted her lashes.
Emma tried to hide the smile and Aniya stood there silently, trying to decide how to make everything right.
“Olivia! Emma! Listen… I’m sorry. Okay?” she rubbed her temples and then dropped her hands by her side, “I don’t know why I lied but… now I know I made a mistake. That day she followed me outside the office building and took me there. This all was too much for me so…” with a deep breath she sat at the edge of the bed.
They weren’t even looking at her while Aniya was desperately trying to make them understand.
She lowered her head, staring at her lap, “I don’t know much about how to meet people or how to communicate. Because you see, I was only six when I was abducted from my house.” Both the girls’ heads snapped up.
Aniya nodded with a chuckle, “Yeah. My abductors became my adoptive parents and raised me without any schooling. I never had friends. I made one much later, and I’m no longer in contact with her. She was the one who helped me in running away because I was sold to a millionaire.”
She heard their gasps but didn’t stop, “My name is not Anaya Jakes. It’s Aniya James and before my kidnapping it was Abigail. I know you two must be thinking that maybe I’m narrating a movie scene but no,” she shook her head, “When I came here, I was so scared. Always watching over my shoulder, thinking that maybe Dorian Maxwell… my buyer… is here,” she at last raised her face and looked at them.
Their eyes were welled up with tears.
“I was desperate for the job, and Paige’s offer sounded like a godsent gift. I couldn’t say no,” she climbed on the bed and held Olivia’s hand, “I’m so sorry…” she felt stinging on her cheek and ran her fingers there only to find tears running down.
She didn’t even realize that she was crying.
“I’m sorry for judging you, Anaya,” Olivia squeezed her hand, “I’m so sorry,” she suddenly pulled Aniya into a hug, “We were supposed to be your friends. Instead of trusting you, we…” she couldn’t continue, and Aniya dint know if she should cry for losing George or for her mom who didn’t recognize her.
“Hey. I also want a hug,” Emma jumped on the bed, wrapping her arms around them. Aniya hugged her back.

The three girls held each other, crying and giggling at the same time.
After a few minutes, when they had calmed down, Olivia playfully punched Aniya’s arm, “Is there anything else you are hiding from us?”
Wiping her face, Aniya nodded, “Yeah. There is. You don’t know about my family, nor do you know about the guy I was involved with. I promise… I’ll tell you everything soon.”
They both nodded at her.
“Let us know if you need our help. And we are sorry too for not trusting you. From today onwards, there won’t be any judgments.”
Olivia spread her palm in front of them. Emma placed her hand on top, and then they both looked at Aniya, waiting.
With a tight-lipped smile, Aniya hesitated for a moment before placing her hand over theirs.
“Friends for life?” Olivia asked them softly, and Aniya nodded along with Emma.
“Friends for life!” they responded to her in chorus.
Before Olivia could say anything else, a knock appeared on the door, “Olivia! Is Anaya with you?”
“Mrs. Eileen?” Olivia muttered as she got off the bed to open the door. Mrs. Eileen was standing in the doorway.
There was a somber expression on her face, “Anaya. Mr. George Donovan is here. He is saying that he tried contacting you, but you weren’t responding to his calls or messages.”
Aniya thought she had heard her wrong. She wasn’t ready for this unexpected visit.
“Mr. Donovan is here?” Emma breathed beside her, “Just because Anaya wasn’t responding to his calls? Wow!”
