Chapter 474: 474- Trust
Emma and Olivia were discussing something in hushed voices when Aniya returned to the room.
“Anaya! You’re back! Why was Mr. Donovan here?” Emma looked at her face carefully.
“Was he asking you about your resignation?” Olivia shot her another question, and that was when they realized that something was wrong.
“I hope she isn’t getting another nervous breakdown,” Olivia muttered under her breath, “Anaya. Answer me. Why was he here?”
Aniya stood there, her fingers trembling as she clutched the hem of her shirt. Her chest was rising and falling due to uneven breathing.
When she finally spoke, her voice seemed to break, “I … I need … to tell… tell you something,” she seemed to be struggling with her words.
Olivia and Emma exchanged a worried glance, “Anaya. What’s going on?” Emma stepped closer.
Aniya sucked in a shaky breath, but it did nothing to stop the tears welling in her eyes.
Within seconds, they spilled over, streaming down her face.
“Anaya. You’re worrying us!” Olivia put pressure on her shoulders to make her sit on a nearby chair. Another sob tore from Aniya’s throat.
“George… it… it was George,” she choked out. Her friends could feel the rawness of her pain, “I was…I was involved with George… he was the guy…”
Her words were met by the shocked silence in the room. Emma and Olivia stared at her, their faces were frozen in shock.
“You mean to say… Mr. George Donovan?”
Emma’s mouth opened and then closed before she finally found her voice, “Anaya. Are you trying to say…”
Aniya’s shoulders shook violently as more sobs racked her body. She tried to speak, but the only thing that came out of her mouth were broken sobs.
“Anaya! Breathe!” Olivia started rubbing her back, “You’re scaring us.”
“I … I didn’t mean for it to happen,” Aniya tried to suppress the sob, hiding her face in her hands, “How can I be th-this stupid?”
Emma leaned ahead and hugged her shaking body tightly, “Hey. You aren’t stupid. Cry as much as you want.”
“Yeah. She is right,” Olivia squeezed her shoulders, “No man is worth crying, Anaya. But please take your time. We know you’re in pain.”
Aniya lifted her head, her tear-streaked face was filled with anguish.
“How will I learn to live without him?” A fresh wave of tears hit her, and she shook her head, trying to shake away the memories, “He is engaged.”
Emma looked at Olivia, whose eyes were also glistening, “You did the right thing, sweetheart. If he was so involved in you, then maybe… he should have been honest with his fiancée and break the engagement. This is nothing but two timing, and don’t you dare feel guilty about it.”
Emma wiped Aniya’s cheeks, “We’re here with you. Okay? No matter what!”
Aniya let out another sob as she got up from the chair. She picked up the pillow from the bed and squeezed it to her chest as she laid down and curled up in bed like a baby.
Olivia quickly placed a quilt over her body.
They needed to stay with Anaya in case she fainted.

“You should be in bed, Anaya,” Olivia tried to reason with her when she saw her getting ready for work.
There was no point in going to Star Corps now. It would be better if she could talk to the five-star hotel manager about starting her job earlier.
“What if they ask you to come after a month?” Emma asked her while wearing her stocking. Aniya, who was applying a lip gloss in front of the mirror, shook her head, “I don’t think so. They wanted me to start the job the next day. I don’t think they would have any objection.”

She closed the cap of her gloss bottle and then put on a jacket, “I think I should leave. Paige must be waiting for me outside the hostel gates.”
Olivia and Emma watched her as she left the room.
“I hope Paige isn’t playing some sick game with her,” Olivia muttered.
Emma released a long breath. She was also quite concerned for her friend.

Instead of taking them to the front offices, the peon took them to the other corridor that was located at the back of the hotel.
It was giving some eerie feeling, but Aniya didn’t want to think about it.
It’s just that I’m not used to switching jobs, and I’m scared of trying new things. She tried convincing herself.
The offices located there were not fully furnished. The man took them to the office that was in the far corner of the hallway, “Have a seat. Mr. Davis will be here in a while.”
Aniya’s eyes noticed the broken furniture. The office didn’t have a proper chair for its guests.
“Something is wrong here,” she told Paige, “This doesn’t look like a proper office to me.”
Paige narrowed her eyes and eyed the girl with a smirk, “And how many offices have you seen in your life, Anaya Jakes? This part is still under construction, so it’s natural to have broken furniture.”
Aniya shifted on her feet. This uneasy feeling wasn’t going away. She was now regretting not bringing her friends along with her.
They did offer her, but she had declined.
“I hope I’m not late,” A suited man came inside the office and watched Aniya with a smile, “So you are the one for the job?”
Aniya was having trouble breathing, “I… I can’t stay here…” She pushed the man to walk past him, but he held her arm tightly,
“Where do you think you are going?” The man asked her, and after that, Aniya heard Paige’s nasty laughter.
“I’m … not well… I forgot my inhaler…” She was facing difficulty in breathing. Maybe because of the dust particles here.
The man was now holding both her arms, and Aniya was struggling feebly to free herself.
“You’re too weak,” a dark chuckle escaped his lips, “Paige. Where did you discover her? She can’t even fight.”
Paige laughed again, and Aniya wanted to kill her. But she could do this later. Right now, saving herself was more important
She pushed the man with all her might and ran out of the office. Her breath was coming in short, rugged breaths, she didn’t dare to look back.
She just needed to get out of this hotel building. Her heart sounded in her ears, drowning out every other sound.
The hall stretched endlessly before her, and in her blind panic, she turned a corner too fast and crashed into someone.
Strong arms steadied her just as she was about to fall. Her body trembled as she lifted her head and found that familiar face staring back at her.
She knew that face. She knew that this man would keep her safe.
Without thinking, she threw her arms around him, clutching his shirt in her hands and buried her face in his chest.
Looking at Aniya’s face, he stiffened, and then his stance around her grew more protective. Rafael Sinclair didn’t know who that girl was.
Before he could react, the girl’s body went limp in his arms.
