Chapter 478: 478- Pain
Rafael Sinclair was staring at the small figure sleeping peacefully in bed. How her face resembled Marissa’s.
How she reminded him of Abigail, whom he lost many years ago and could never get out of regret. How he was supposed to protect his family but failed miserably.
Among all his kids, he had been closest to Abigail. It was never a secret in the family that he loved her the most.
Maybe it was because of the health problems she had been facing since birth. He exhaled before he moved the hair strand off her cheek and touched his index finger to her hair.
“Get a grip, Rafael,” he warned himself and stepped back. The girl looked so drained and so frightened that he didn’t want to give her the impression that he was a creep.
He silently went out of the room and waved at Ragnar who was on night duty, “Can you serve me drinks at the poolside?”
The man saluted him, “Sure, Mr. Sinclair.”
Rafael took the phone outside and thought of dialing Marissa’s number.

When Marissa Sinclair stepped inside the living room, she was met with an odd silence. She placed her purse and laptop bag on the Centre table and suppressed her yawn.
“Hello, madam,” She spun around when she heard Ragnar’s voice behind her.
“Hey. Where is my husband?”
“Drinking at the poolside,” he rolled his eyes, “Partying.”
Marissa chuckled at his funny remark, and started walking in the direction where she could find her husband.
However, while passing by the guest room, she noticed a faint light coming out.
Who might be inside? She thought with a frown.
She was certain that nobody else was there in the house except Rafael and her. The kids were busy in school and university—none of them could be here.
Pushing the door open, she stepped inside. Her eyes adjusted to the dim lighting, and that was when she saw someone sleeping in the bed.
The skin between her brows pinched a little more.
Strange!
She moved closer and was surprised to find the same girl from the boutique. That day, she tried to follow her, but before she could reach her, the girl had already fled. Even Alex had gone quiet after that incident.
For a long moment, she stood there, looking at her face. She didn’t know what the girl was doing here. She tried to ignore the questions popping into her head.
Letting out a quiet sigh, she turned and left the room.
As expected, her handsome husband was outside, lounging on a recliner near the pool, holding a drink in his hand. He looked gorgeous, wearing only denim shorts.
When she set her foot there, Rafael Sinclair placed the glass down and got up. His arms were spreading out, and his eyes lit up as soon as he spotted her.
“Strawberry!”
Everyone in their close circle knew that he called her that, but none of them was aware of the reason.
A smile broke across her face as she walked towards him. She wrapped her arms around his waist, “I missed you,” she murmured, kissing his tanned chest.
“I missed you too, love,” he pressed a kiss to her lips effortlessly and then surprised her by lifting her into his arms.
“Rafael!” she squealed, “Put me down!”

He didn’t listen, instead, he carried her to the recliner and got down, settling her on his lap.
“How was the meeting?” he asked while he lifted her foot, his fingers already working on unfastening her sandals.
Her heart squeezed as he slipped off her shoe gently.
“You should have attended the meeting,” her hands stranded through his hair, “Behram was too stubborn to accept the deal.”
Rafael chuckled while taking off her other shoe, “Oh, I know you can handle him quite easily. I trust you, sweetheart.”
He was now giving her feet a gentle massage, and Marissa leaned more into him when a hum escaped her lips, “Oh. You are becoming a pro in this. Forget about MSin, and start a massage business,” she joked keeping her eyes closed.
“Yeah. Gladly. I’ll just be needing one customer,” she raised her lips to kiss his jaw.
“Umm hmm. And who would that be?” There was amusement in her eyes.
“A girl who I fell for, several years back…” he kissed her head, “Should I take off your dress too?” he asked her, nuzzling his nose into the crook of her neck, and she chuckled at that.
“Yeah. Of course. There is no one at home, so we can easily take advantage and …” She paused, and he looked down when he saw her straightening on his lap, “We aren’t alone, Rafael.”
He looked at her with a raised brow, “Hmm?”
“There is someone else in the house,” her expression turned serious, “There’s a girl in our guest room.”
His hand that was rubbing her back unconsciously, stilled, “What?” he looked around for his slippers, “is she awake?”
“N-no…” she was watching his face carefully, “She is fast asleep. Do you know her?”
“No. I don’t know her!” he shrugged and relaxed back, holding her more tightly against him. His mind was wandering in all directions, trying to make sense of everything.
“Rafael,”
“Hmm?”
“Look at me!”
He obeyed her like an innocent child. She kept looking at him instead of saying something.
Obviously, he was her husband and understood what she wanted to know.
“This morning, I went to White Palace Hotel to have breakfast with some of my old friends when I saw this girl running blindly towards me. She looked so scared…” he made eye contact with his wife, “She seemed so scared and so pale… that I couldn’t risk leaving her alone in this vulnerable state. But then she fainted, and I brought her here with me.”
They both had gotten quiet, and Marissa leaned her cheek against his chest.
Rafael looked down at her head and smiled, “What did you think? I smuggled her in?”
Marissa gave a light punch on his chest, “Shut up. I’m not thinking any such thing,” she then raised her head and looked into his eyes, “And I think I know why you brought her here.”
Her guess was right because pain flickered in his green eyes.
