Chapter 483: 483- Nineteen? Die?
At dinner time, Angela found herself in an awkward position. In Sinclair’s family get-togethers, it was always understood that she would sit beside Alexander Sinclair.
But tonight, it got awkward for her when Rafael Sinclair offered that girl to sit anywhere she wanted. As expected, Anaya girl chose to sit on the chair where Angela wanted to be.
Right next to Alexander.
Angela curled her fingers into fists and marched to another chair. In all honesty, she couldn’t understand the fuss.
The girl might look innocent, but she was so underconfident and Angela felt she might cry any minute.
“Huh. Fake innocence! My foot,” she grunted in annoyance, being careful as she didn’t want anyone to witness her complaining side.
It was evident that the girl, whose name was Anaya Fu*cker, was forcing a smile to her lips. Her hand was cold when Angela tried shaking it for the sake of Alex’s parents, before the dinner started.
Being sweet souls, Ariel and Alex didn’t object when Anaya chose to sit on that chair. Alex even placed the water pitcher close to her and asked her something. Angela wanted to smack the girl’s face when she replied to Alex with a shy smile.
She gave Anaya a mean look and then started eating her food. In the past, she often tried to stay close to Alex so that she could do naughty things under the table.
The way she used to brush her foot against his jean-clad legs when she thought no one was watching, waiting for him to react but he never did.
She was crazy after him since childhood but he never, ever looked at her in that way. It was as if, in his eyes, she was nothing more than an old friend of his sister. Someone familiar yet not so important.
Almost invisible to him.
And now he was attending to the girl like…
Like she was superior to Angela.
Look at her. Anyone can see that she doesn’t have a shred of class.

“Kebabs?” Alex offered Anaya a dish piled up with barbecued kebabs and Anaya shook her head with a faint smile. She didn’t feel like eating. This was an emotional moment for her as she was spending this time with her family after what seemed like ages.
Marissa and Rafael went out of the way to arrange the dinner in the garden. This part was adorned with a warm string of lights that cast a soft glow around the table.
Everyone present there could smell the freshly grilled food that was being carried to the table by the uniformed waiters.
Cushioned chairs were placed around the table, and a floral centerpiece added elegance to the overall arrangement.
Angela felt like the couple had gone to great lengths just because this weirdo girl had somehow ended up there by accident.
This girl might be faking this innocent expression on her face, but Angela wasn’t a fool. Everyone knew who Sinclairs were.
Alexander Sinclair was the most eligible bachelor in town and Angela’s eyes had always been on the prize.
“Stop staring at my brother,” Angela blinked when heard Ariel’s low tone, “It’s too obvious!” there was amusement in her voice.
Angela tried to smile but it faltered halfway, “Nah. Don’t be ridiculous,” she scoffed with the wave of her hand, “I was just admiring the arrangement. The way Mrs. Sinclair made the effort,” She then leaned slightly, peeking past Ariel to glance at Mrs. Sinclair, who was sitting on the other side of Ariel.
“Mrs. Sinclair. I am loving it. How did you manage to hang those lanterns from those trees? Not everyone knows… that before being a CEO you were a successful entrepreneur,” she tried to force some cheerfulness into her voice.
Angela wanted to show Anaya girl that she was welcomed more than her and was almost like a family member to them.
However, she had to snap back to reality when she heard Alex talking to that girl again. What was the matter with Alex? Why was he giving so much importance to this girl?
Who was she?
And more importantly, what had she done to earn Alex’s attention so effortlessly?

“Your plate is almost empty,” Alex told Aniya softly and it warmed Aniya’s heart.
You’re still such a caring soul, Alex. She thought silently. Tonight, it seemed like she needed to try her best to keep herself from crying.
Her brother had grown into a handsome and caring gentleman just like their dad. She looked around and saw everyone chatting in a light mood.
“Anaya! Chicken?” Marissa passed her a tray and Anaya couldn’t say no. She never liked Barbecue chicken and Spinach.
Pasta had always been her favorite with simple stir-fried veggies.
She took a small piece of chicken and started nibbling on it. In her childhood, Alex used to offer her, his help and ate her chicken portion silently.
“We have pasta with stir-fried veggies,” he offered her in a hushed tone, “You can place this chicken piece on my plate.”
Anaya swallowed hard and tried to smile. Oh damn.
He also remembered that.
The odd thing was, that nobody was bombarding her with questions to find out if she was the lost family member or not.
Weird.
They could sense her resemblance to Marissa but not interested in her past.
When Alex saw her not making a move, he picked up the chicken piece from her plate and dropped it onto his.
“Here. The pasta,” he offered her the dish. For a moment, Aniya raised her eyes and watched his face.
There was this unusual gentleness on his face.
Her lips quivered as she accepted the dish and put some pasta on her plate, “Thanks.”
“This is how you eat normally? You need to be careful about your diet if you want to stay strong,” Now, Alex had started his TED talk and Aniya put some more pasta on her plate quite mechanically.,
When she placed the dish back, Alex picked up the salad bowl and placed some feta cheese salad on the side of her plate.
Just like their father used to do with their mom.
Aniya didn’t want to get emotional. She had no desire to show this vulnerable side of her to anyone. She blinked back the tears and looked up only to find Angela glaring at her.
What’s her issue? Did I steal her cow?
The look of hatred was so clear on her face that Aniya shuddered. She knew this look. She grew up with that.
“Why have you stopped eating?” Alex pointed towards her food, “You need to finish this one because I’m not planning to eat it for you.”
Anaya nodded with a smile and focused back on the pasta before her.
“Hey, Anaya,” Ariel’s voice cut through the chatter.
Anaya looked up, swallowing her bite carefully. Ariel had that classic polished look in her personality that Anaya lacked.
She was still confused about what George saw in her that made him choose her over Ariel.
“You’re an extremely quiet girl, Anaya,” Ariel mused, “I hope we aren’t making you uncomfortable,” She smiled wider, leaning slightly forward, “Mommy and Daddy usually arrange dinner indoors, but I guess they arranged it here in your honor. Angela and I can show you around the house if you want. Although our two siblings are not here tonight, I wish I could make you meet George.”
Ariel was speaking nonstop, and Anaya wondered if Ariel recognized her from that evening when they met at the reception area of George’s apartment building.
“I invited George,” Marissa spoke before taking a sip of her drink, “He said he would try, but he seemed a little upset.”
The mention of George made Aniya uncomfortable. He was the one she had been running from. Ariel was telling Marissa how she was missing him.
“Ariel. You should have invited George,” Angela intervened, “We all know, he can’t say no to you,” she poked her elbow in Ariel’s ribs with a mischievous grin, “He is crazy about you.”
“Shut up!” Ariel rolled her eyes and gave a small smile to Anaya, “George is my boyfriend. Everyone around here knows that,” She winked, and then her face got serious, “If you don’t mind me asking, Anaya… what’s your age?”
Maybe Aniya was imagining it because everyone around her seemed to hold their breaths and wait for her answer, “My age? I’m eighteen.”
Ariel didn’t say anything, and her lips made the shape of a small ‘o’.
“Then you are one year younger than us,” Alex told her with a careless grin.
Aniya hesitated, unsure if she had heard him correctly.
Their ages…
Like … were they nineteen? Then how come she was eighteen?
Poor her didn’t know that there was one more surprise waiting for her when Angela told her with a sad smile, “Do you know, they had a triplet sister who was kidnapped and died at the age of six?”
Aniya thought she must have misunderstood Angela. Her head started reeling.
What were they saying?
Was she supposed to be nineteen years old and die when she was six?
