Chapter 486: 486- This could work
“Please meet Caleb and Celine, the most mischievous duo on the planet,” Rafael introduced his twin kids to Aniya, who were staring at Aniya.
Aniya tried to smile. Both kids were looking at her as if she had come straight from a museum. “Hello,” they mumbled before giving a questioning look to their father.
“She is Anaya!” Rafael told them, “And she is a very dear friend of mine!”
Celine scrunched her nose and gave a secret glance to Caleb, “Dad’s friend?”
Caleb shrugged and then headed to Aniya for a handshake, “Nice meeting you, Anaya… my dad’s dear friend!” he rolled his eyes and stepped back.
With a giggle, Celina also shook her hand, “I think I know why Dad befriended you,” Her remark was met with silence.
Marissa, who had just gotten back from the airport after picking up her kids, was entering the living room when she heard Celine.
“And why is that, honey ball?” She threw her purse on the couch and plopped on it.
“Can’t you see, Mom? She resembles you so much! Being your daughter, I don’t have that black hair, black eyes, and that clear skin, and Anaya?” she gestured towards her, “As an outsider, how can she inherit it from you? That’s not fair!”
Everyone standing there laughed at her complaints.
Though Celine was shining, Aniya didn’t find her tone insulting, rather, it was amusing.
“It’s okay,” With a playful smile, Aniya pulled the hair strand of the girl’s hair, “You’re so beautiful. I always wanted green eyes when I was your age. And look at you. You’re so perfect.”
“You think so?”
“I think so!” Aniya nodded at her.
“Come on, Sweethearts. Go and change,” Rafael clapped for the kids, “Be ready before six in the evening. We are going for dinner in your mom’s newly opened restaurant.”
“Newly opened?” Aniya’s gaze shifted to Marissa, who was folding her legs under her.
“Yeah. There is still time before the launch, but I’ve already hired the staff. We’ll be having this dinner before the launch. The celebration is just for my family,” she said with a knowing smile.
When Aniya didn’t move her gaze, Marissa got what she wasn’t asking, “You’re family, Anaya,” she said sincerely, “We don’t take you as an outsider.”
Marissa Sinclair was making it difficult for her. How would she be able to stay away from this family who was taking care of her in such a warm way?
Just like a mother! Ha-ha. Aniya thought sarcastically.
Marissa had given her brand-new clothes for last night’s dinner, and now tonight’s invitation meant she would give her more.
Aniya was finding it difficult to say no to anything she was getting from her parents.

Wearing a powder-blue solid dress, Aniya was walking behind Alex, who had asked her to accompany him in his car. Angela didn’t like it, but she couldn’t sulk in front of the Sinclairs.
Her mom’s restaurant was nothing short of breathtaking. It seemed to be a high-end, fine-dining place that exuded sophistication and exclusivity.
The crystal chandeliers, the marble floors, white and purple orchids placed on their family table. Everything was top-notch and up to the mark.
They had reached the restaurant before everyone else, so Alex decided to show her around. Aniya was bracing herself for Angela’s tantrums on taking her place in Alex’s car.
She was walking a few steps behind him, taking in the exquisite art pieces adorning the walls. She was so lost in admiring everything that she didn’t realize when Alex suddenly turned around and reached for her hand, pulling her to his side.
“Liking it so far?” he asked her with a small smile.
Aniya nodded, still overwhelmed by the sheer grandeur, “It’s beautiful, Alex.”

“You must visit Kanderton someday,” he said, leading her through another hallway, “Mom’s restaurant is giving tough fight to its competitors.”
“Let’s find out about the menu. If they don’t have mutton ribs, then I’m out,” Aniya wanted to laugh at his choices. In childhood, he always hated meat.
After showing her around, he took her back to the hall where their table was arranged.
“What’s your plan for the future?” he asked her as they settled in their chairs. The funny thing was, their names were displayed on every seat and Alex made a face when he found himself sitting beside Angela.
He found it odd that Aniya’s seat was between Marissa and Rafael.
He made his parents sit together and then quickly switched Angela’s and Aniya’s cards.
“My future?” she repeated after him and then decided to be honest, “I don’t have a place to live, Alex. Just lost my job,” she added with a shrug, “So, not much of a plan.”
Alex leaned back in his seat, his sharp eyes studying her, “Why don’t you try Star Corps or MSin?” he suggested to her softly.
Before he could come up with an answer, an unexpected question came from him, “What’s your qualification?”
She sat still, not knowing what to say. There’s no way around this.
“I … I… never went to school,” she admitted and started fixing her hair nervously.
Alex blinked, clearly taken aback. His expression shifted to pity, which he quickly covered. He leaned forward, resting his arms on the table, “It’s okay. You can still do a lot without a degree.”
Aniya shook her head and let out a small laugh that was full of doubts, “Really? Like what?”
“Hmm. Let’s see…” he tapped his fingers against the table and then his green eyes flickered with an idea, “For example… you can start reviewing this restaurant,” he gestured to show her around.
Aniya raised her brow, moving her hands in the air, “You mean… become a food critic?”
“Umm hmm, more like an influencer,” he leaned back, looking at her like her face was helping him to voice his thoughts, “If you’re a foodie, if you know enough about spices, taste, authenticity of dishes … then go for it. Post reviews on Insta handle regularly and bam! Everyone loves food and wants genuine recommendations.”
Aniya stared at him in awe. Could she do that?
Just last night, she had been pleading with God to show her some light. And here He was, answering her in the form of Alex.
“Think about it,” he added, seeing the wheels turning in her head, “You don’t need a degree to have an opinion, Anaya. If you know what you’re talking about, people will listen.”
Aniya exhaled slowly, letting the idea settle. Maybe… just maybe… this could work.
