Chapter 487: 487- Change
George slammed the fist onto the desk, making the papers and a half-empty cup rattle. His glare was burning the police officer who was sitting in his seat. Despite being a high-ranked officer, he could feel the sweat tickling down his spine.
“You mean to tell me,” George’s voice was dangerously calm, “with all the resources at your disposal, you couldn’t find one girl in Sangua City?”
When the officer tried to speak, a hoarse whisper came out of his mouth, “Sir… we searched… ”
“Oh. Did you?” George cut him off, bending forward, “Then where is she?”
When the officer didn’t utter another word, George felt frustration bubbling up in his chest, “The girl is lost. CCTV footage is nowhere. And you don’t have any idea who that man was… who carried her.”
He wanted to burn down the police station. He wanted to burn the whole fux*cking world.
“Sir,” the officer hesitated, “She … she must have had help. Someone might be hiding her.”
“Wow!” George let out a sharp laugh, shaking his head, “So, now you’re telling me that someone is out there outsmarting an entire police force?” his tone had mockery in it.
His frustration was building up with each passing day because even the competent investigators he had hired privately hadn’t gotten any clue.
He exhaled harshly, feeling his patience snapping, “You better find her, officer, because… if you don’t… I promise you won’t like how I handle things.”
George shot a cold, lingering glare at the officer, the one that sent a chill down the man’s spine, before storming out of his office.

Angela leaned forward in her seat, tapping impatiently on the partition, “Can you drive a little faster?”
The partition slid down a little, “Ma’am. How can I? We’re stuck in this traffic. There’s nowhere to go.”
Ariel, who was sitting beside her, gave her a pointed look, “Are you serious? Can’t you see the traffic around you? What are you expecting him to do? Fly?”
Angela’s jaw tightened at that as she crossed her arms, “What’s your problem, Ariel? Aren’t you supposed to be on my side?”
“My problem?” Ariel scoffed, “You’re the one who is acting like we’re in a high-speed chase. Chill out, Angel!”
Angela exhaled sharply, looking away, but Ariel wasn’t going to let it slide.
“Now come on,” She said, tilting her head, “you’re acting like your life depends on getting there two minutes earlier.”
Angela snapped her head towards her friend, and Ariel thought her friend’s eyes were blazing, “I need to be with Alex! As my friend, you should know better.”
Ariel felt a little uneasy. Yes, Angela had always been after Alex, but now?
It seemed that it was getting too much. Or was she imagining it? Because come on. The girl sitting there was no one else but her childhood buddy.
She blinked, perking her head, “Excuse me?”
Ariel’s excuse me only made Angela’s agitation worse, “I wanted to sit beside him, but that freeloader girl who can’t even walk to the bathroom herself… jumped in his car before me! And Alex? Being a gentleman, he didn’t stop her.”
Ariel let out an exaggerated gasp, “Uh huh. The tragedy! Tsk. A whole new passenger seat lost forever.”
“Don’t you dare mock me, Ariel!” she tried to relax her facial features, but her hands were clenched into fists.
Ariel shrugged casually, “Stop acting like a kid, Angela. That’s just a car seat. Not a candy that got stolen. Are you seriously mad because Anaya sat in that car?”
“Ariel. I thought you were MY friend? And stop supporting that bitch. You don’t know anything about this lot. Write it somewhere. Note it down tonight. She isn’t what she is telling you.”
Ariel frowned, stunned this time. Angela had been a great judge of character just by looking at people’s faces.
She was rarely wrong about anyone.

“What do you mean?” she whispered.
Instead of answering her, Angela turned away, her lips pressing into a thin line, “Leave it. You won’t get it.”
“No, I do,” Ariel said, trying to keep her calm, “Like you, my parents’ judgment never went wrong… but ….”
“But this time they are! She has gotten all of them under her thumb. Do you know why? Because she resembles your sister who is now dead! She is dead, Ariel, and you need to put this in your… parents’ head… they’re innocent. And she is taking advantage of it!”
Ariel realized that Angela was shouting.
“Good God! You’re pissed!”
“Yes, I am!”
“My brother is a grown adult, Angela. He can make his own decisions.”
Angela’s face flushed with frustration, “And he doesn’t know how manipulative some people can be.”
“Goodness!” Ariel muttered under her breath. She leaned back, crossing her arms stubbornly, “You like it or not, Angela. But she is here. My parents are so happy and smiling like this after such a long time otherwise, they always put on a pretense for our sake. No matter what kind of she is. If my parents are happy for a little while, then please don’t destroy it for them.”
After that, there was silence in the car. They both were looking out of the window, not arguing any further.
What if Anaya is a fraud and she is taking advantage of her parents?
She needed to talk to her parents. They could love the girl and spoil her, but Ariel couldn’t let them keep her in that house for long.
Angela glanced at Ariel secretly and then looked away.
They all were crazy about that girl, as if she was the dead sister who had returned from her grave. They all were acting like stupid clowns around her.
Only Alex was the sane one, she thought with a smile.
But she couldn’t lose him just because he was tagging along her like a puppy. He never showed interest in Angela but seemed to be closer to that girl, he just met last night.
Angela needed to do something about it. And there was just one way of doing it.
She was planning to interrogate her tonight in the presence of all the Sinclairs. A faint smile graced her lips.
Yes. That was the only way.
Once her reality is revealed, the Sinclairs might get back to their senses. Marissa and Rafael were skilled businesspeople. How could they get fooled this easily by that lowly girl?
Tonight!
I’ll do it tonight.
She thought wickedly.
Poor Angela didn’t know that by planning this shot, she was doing a favor to Anaya. Because this night was going to change the lives of all the Sinclairs overnight.
